00:00Hello, Texas Democrats!
00:06I am Marquetta Greene Scott and I'm the Democratic nominee for Texas Congressional District 22.
00:14Two years ago, I stood on the stage in El Paso and I said, we deserve better.
00:21Well, guess what? We deserve better more now than we did then.
00:27The cost of gas has gone up, the cost of eggs have not gone down like they said they would.
00:35That's why I'm running.
00:37Let me tell you a little bit about myself.
00:41I am from this town called Appaloosas, Louisiana.
00:46Yes, yes!
00:48I am the return on investment of Democratic policies.
00:55There is no reason for a little girl who grew up in the projects in Appaloosas to have four degrees,
01:03but I do.
01:04Yes.
01:06And I don't like talking about it, but you know what?
01:10In this time, we know that education is the great equalizer.
01:14That's why they're coming for our education.
01:17But we're not going to let it happen.
01:20No.
01:22I'm a former teacher.
01:24I taught high school and college mathematics.
01:27All right, teachers!
01:31I'm an attorney.
01:33I practice in Texas and Louisiana.
01:39And I am current mayor pro tem for the city of Iowa Colony in Brazoria County.
01:44All right, y'all.
01:49I've been on council since 2021.
01:53During the primary, I let the voters know I am the most qualified on either ballot, Democratic or Republican.
02:03And right now, I'm running against someone who has—well, he's trying to run on his brother's coattail.
02:13So in 24, his—well, currently, his brother is the MAGA Republican.
02:20His name is Troy Nels.
02:22You've probably seen him.
02:23Yeah.
02:27Well, he's a lapdog for Donald Trump.
02:30And Trevor thinks he's going to be a lapdog as well.
02:35But we're not going to let that happen, are we?
02:38No!
02:40We're going to send someone to Congress who is a public servant,
02:45who understands that I work for the people.
02:50You don't work for me.
02:51You choose me to go and do a job.
02:54And that's what I plan to do.
02:56I plan to fight for affordability.
02:59Y'all know that those tariffs, those illegal tariffs, and this illegal war is making our affordability even worse.
03:09And it doesn't stop with just all prices and gas.
03:12We have to transport food.
03:14We have to do different things that he is causing us to spend money that we should not and that
03:21we don't even have.
03:23We need a livable wage.
03:25We need a livable wage.
03:28We need to raise the minimum wage, the federal minimum wage, so that we can't afford it.
03:35I want to fight for universal healthcare.
03:38There's no reason.
03:41There's no reason that the richest country in the world doesn't have the universal healthcare.
03:50Healthcare is a right.
03:52It's not a privilege.
03:53And we need to stop treating it as such.
03:59They're coming after our voting rights.
04:02I want to protect voting rights for everyone.
04:07And ladies, they're really coming after ours.
04:10So we gotta fight.
04:13And last but not least, I want to save this democracy.
04:18As an attorney, I understand the Constitution.
04:22I understand checks and balances.
04:26The Congress people we have now, they don't understand that.
04:30So we need to put people in who do.
04:33Y'all, the time is now to fight.
04:37If we don't fight now, we won't be able to fight later.
04:41So I'm asking you to send me Marquetta Green Scott to Congress to fight for you.
04:49Thank you so much.
04:50I'm Marquetta Green Scott, CD22.
05:09Thank you so much.
