00:00You mentioned the driver, and I want to ask your opinion on kind of what your next steps will be
00:06in trying to make that more of a strength in your game and how you look to the top 10
00:10guys in the world.
00:11What was Joe's opinion to you?
00:14Actually, of course, he just went through a whole year of watching you tee off with the driver.
00:20What would be his suggestion on kind of the best way to try to get a little tighter?
00:26Yeah, I think, you know, we definitely have talked about it a lot where he's like,
00:37you are so good at this game and so talented and like to be 15th in, you know, going into
00:44the tour championship,
00:46but being, you know, 120th and driving is really impressive.
00:51Obviously, having a closer to a go-to shot or like a one-way miss, I struggled with two-way
00:58misses for this whole year.
01:00And I drove it my best at Sawgrass, which makes, he's like, can't fathom that because it's one of the
01:06hardest places to drive the golf ball optically.
01:10You know, it's very nerve-wracking.
01:14I think a lot of it, you know, has to do with kind of my matchup and my golf swing
01:19needs to change and the delivery of my golf swing.
01:24And then I think, too, a lot of like the mental scarring I have of not wanting to hit it
01:31both ways is a big thing that it's going to take time to overcome.
01:37But, yeah, I think if I can get my golf swing in a more consistent pattern, it'll be huge.
01:44And then I can work around, you know, with the Callaway guys to get a driver that is probably more
01:49beneficial for me.
01:50I've been using the same driver for, I think, three or four years now because it's been really comfortable for
01:56me.
01:57But it might not be the best suiting golf club for me.
02:02So, yeah, I've gone through ebbs and flows of getting my golf swing in a great spot before the year.
02:08And then as we get more competition, I go back to my old habits.
02:11So, yeah, I'm excited.
02:14I'm going to really work hard on my golf swing.
02:16I kind of want to change a lot of things and have a different DNA when it comes to off
02:22the tee.
02:23And then, you know, hopefully it can transition when I get into competition.
02:27You correct me if I'm wrong, but your driver that you play with now, the loft is around like six
02:31degrees, which is very, very low for a standard tour head.
02:35Yeah, I think it's after I think it's set in minus two.
02:39So it's around like six point eight starting loft.
02:43But I think the more and more I've learned about my golf swing, you know, I have very low hands
02:49to start.
02:51My driver's really upright for start line.
02:54The loft is down so it can cut.
02:57Yeah.
02:58OK.
02:58So there's a lot of things that, again, I've been so comfortable with it, but yeah, it also can create
03:04the two way miss.
03:05And with how my swing plane is, like most guys are around 48 to 50 ish, you know, when it
03:13comes to how they're delivering the clubface.
03:15Mine, I'm around 37.
03:17And so that just makes your sweet spot smaller.
03:20And then the face can deflect a little more.
03:22Wow.
03:23That's why you're such a good iron player, though, because there's a little bit more manipulation.
03:26And the descending blow of an iron is not going to be quite as big of a deal.
03:31Yeah.
03:31So my matchups with irons are great.
03:34I know I can control the face really well.
03:36But with driver, it's sometimes I feel like I can make a good golf swing and it can go one
03:41way or the other.
03:42That's frustrating.
03:42That's frustrating as a player.
03:43Is it as simple as getting fit into something that's a little bit more of a standard head, standard loft,
03:52and then aiming a little straighter and then just kind of working through the pattern to get to where it's,
03:57you know, the start line of to where when you're standing on a tee box and you have something overhanging
04:03on the right, it doesn't necessarily sound the alarm bells.
04:05Is it as simple as kind of working through that scar tissue and then also just kind of getting fundamentals
04:10a little bit straighter?
04:12Yeah, I think it might be like reverse where I need to get the technique great and then we can
04:17work on getting a driver that, you know, works a little better for what I need.
04:22I think when you see a lot of these guys who are elite drivers, you know, Rory's probably four to
04:31five up and he probably swings at four to five right.
04:34So his swing direction is so neutral.
04:36I'm never going to be that way.
04:38No, it's like opposite ends there.
04:40Like Rory over here and then he got actually down.
04:42Yeah.
04:43And are you trying to get more towards the middle there?
04:45Like, are you going to?
04:47Yeah.
04:47Again, I think I'm trying to not lose my iron game, but definitely trying to just neutralize it to where
04:56I'm not restricted at tournaments.
04:59Yeah.
04:59Because I think when it like I felt most comfortable with the US Open because it's there's no trees.
05:05It's pretty big fairways and I could start it.
05:09You know, I didn't have fear of starting it right.
05:12I had room to really curve it.
05:15But and then when I get to Augusta is where I feel like this pinchy, you know, 18, so uncomfortable
05:22for me.
05:2317 is uncomfortable.
05:2414 is uncomfortable.
05:26Seven is uncomfortable.
05:27They're just dead.
05:28Yeah.
05:28Shoots.
05:28You just got it.
05:29But the start line is so important.
