00:00Good morning. Thanks for getting up with us. Jim Costa, John Jansen, Heather Park, Gov and Greg behind the glass
00:06on a Thursday.
00:07Two Grand Slam coming up at 725. Your chance to win $2,000 as long as you can actually make
00:13it through the game without any incidents.
00:17Yes, it was abbreviated version on Tuesday. Yeah. Dear John at 735.
00:22We'll of course look to John for guidance to help the people out once again.
00:26And we got our old pal Russ Tucker today. 802.
00:30At least my old pal. I think he and I are friendly at least. Oh, you are? Okay.
00:36I don't think he hates me. Something I don't know. No, I don't think so. I don't know.
00:39I'll come on, but only because of John. No, he's coming on because he gets paid. Right.
00:46Trust me, I got the reads ready. You give advice at 735. I want you to give some advice to
00:52Bryce Underwood because I was.
00:54What was that yesterday at the press conference? I don't know.
01:01I mean, there's. So I tell you what, let's hear the article. The question was, had he heard about the
01:09comments that Coach Whittingham made about him not being the starting quarterback?
01:16Like it not being a lifetime appointment?
01:43Heather, I'd like you to jump in there.
01:46i just i rolled yeah i rolled and haha i think that's most people's reaction and i'm i'm really
01:53glad that i heard that reaction because i wanted to make sure mine wasn't an overreaction um
02:00i thought it was first of all there's no way he didn't hear about the comments and i know later
02:06on he was asked something about social media and he says he hasn't been on social media you don't
02:10need to be on social media to hear that there's plenty of people around um i would think there'd
02:18be a little self-awareness of yeah i'm like it's not permanent it's it's like i didn't play that way
02:27and the answer so i'm kind of jumping around here um not a great way to answer that question
02:36no kidding and also like walking up there there should have been i'm guessing there was somebody
02:44there that was telling him these are some of the questions you're going to be asked think about
02:49your answer and then for it to be that's cool i felt like it was a little passive aggressive
02:56yeah um absolutely was and it's i want to know when he talks about when he was elected captain
03:09one of the things that he told everybody was that he was going to be a more vocal leader
03:14now you don't have to be vocal to be a leader but everything that you do as a captain as
03:22a quarterback
03:23even if you're not captain you're a de facto leader on the field because you're the one that is
03:27organized everything body language matters what you say matters how you project yourself
03:35matters and i didn't see that yesterday now this is typically why you have and why they have you know
03:44in previous years at michigan it's been fourth and fifth year guys i don't know that he yet has the
03:52tools or the experience the maturity yeah i mean all of those things he's a 19 year old kid
03:59and i know you don't like it when i call him kids that's how i see him that's that you
04:04don't have to
04:04see him that way that's how i see him that's so that's that gives somebody the context of where i'm
04:08coming from um there are things that you learn throughout the course of your playing career your
04:14time at michigan even if it's not as a starter it's just a for for two three four years you're
04:21learning and then when you're put in that position you're more equipped to handle the situation
04:28yeah clearly not a media trained answer which is why i think you got the truth
04:33his bleep doesn't stink cool that's how it came across cool just some arrogance
04:39hey buddy you stink you're terrible at this you didn't get any better from last year and your
04:45coach is saying you could lose the job how about i gotta play better yeah how hard is that to
04:51say
04:51it's the truth you gotta play better nobody has an unlimited job security including kyle whittingham
04:59well and and so when you go back to the comments that coach whittingham said which i thought were very
05:04measured and and excellent comments like he can't sit there and say this is our starting quarterback
05:10no matter what happens right because it's not just bryce's job it's not just the right tackles job
05:17it is also kyle whittingham's job it's the assistance that he moved across the country if things don't work
05:24out it's all of their jobs at stake so he is going to make a decision that's going to be
05:30best for his
05:31team the success of the team because if you don't have success then all of those people that are
05:36counting on you to have success are out of jobs well and think about it i i think enough of
05:41kyle
05:41whittingham that he had to have talked about his his um bryce's performance with bryce yes so whether
05:49he heard the quote or not it shouldn't be earth shattering to bryce that he has to play better or
05:54changes will be made i don't think whittingham's the type of guy that says that into a podium microphone
05:59without saying it to his player right so then bryce you don't act oblivious or aloof or you use
06:05passive aggressive too cool for school oh cool yeah coach says i could get bench cool is it is it
06:13cool
06:13that coach says you could get right and and i don't think that this is going on right now but
06:19an answer
06:19like that could start to cause some divisiveness in the locker room oh well coach said this it hurt his
06:27feelings and now we're getting this answer from the quarterback yeah you are a captain you are the
06:34quarterback you need to play better you need to own it take accountability and say yeah i i know i
06:39need to play better i know i'm capable of playing better i plan to play better i'm going to put
06:43the
06:43work in to play better there's a million different things you can say that rally the troops and take
06:48accountability anything but what he said that's cool that's cool
06:55we can play it again after the top of the hour but we're already getting phone calls on it uh
06:58i think
06:59it's going to be in the update to 248-539-9797 i mean what's the question for people well i
07:07mean do you
07:07see a leader and and and when you are in a position that michigan is in right now i heard
07:15leadership from
07:17the coach and accountability from the coach i'm not sure i heard it from the quarterback
07:24need to hear that from the quarterback and now what he says at the podium doesn't need to be
07:29the same as what he's saying to his teammates and we don't know what those conversations are
07:36but this is the image that he is projecting to the rest of the football world he's only making it
07:43worse
07:43with that stuff we'll talk more with you guys after the update we've got two grand slam at 7 25
07:47dear john
07:48at 7 35 it's 97 one
