Philippine defense chief accuses China of 'disrespect' after speech interrupted

Philippine Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro accuses China of "disrespect" after his speech is interrupted at a defense forum in South Korea's capital. Teodoro is on stage for a panel discussion at the Seoul Defense Dialogue when he receives a paper from what appeared to be an event staffer, which apparently exerts China's rejection of a landmark 2016 ruling by an international tribunal in The Hague that overwhelmingly sided with the Philippines in its case against China's claims to the South China Sea.

00:00Unfortunately, just like, I have a note here, I think this is from China, and may I read it, China's
00:14position on the South China Sea arbitration is clear, consistent, and firm.
00:18They have no position. The arbitration violates fundamental principles of international law.
00:24So, what you signed, unclosed, you mean violates international law. That's what you mean.
00:30The so-called award is illegal, null, and void, so say you, and has no binding force because you don't
00:38want to be subjected to unclosed.
00:40I ask you the question, is this the right paper to pose to me when I'm being asked a question
00:48on the floor?
00:50And how will you treat this kind of behavior?
00:53It not only disrespects, shows, if this is a Chinese position sent to me, it not only disrespects international law,
01:07throwing unclosed to the floor and trampling upon it, but it also disrespects the basic decency accorded,
01:13that should be accorded to our most gracious hosts, the Republic of Korea, and the rest of the audience here.
01:21So, perhaps, basic decency and behavior is what China needs to do.
01:29Now, thank you very much.
01:59Thank you very much.
02:06Thank you very much.
