China accused the Philippines of “stirring up trouble” on Wednesday following Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr.’s remarks on Beijing’s rejection of the 2016 South China Sea arbitral ruling.
Speaking at the Seoul Defense Dialogue on Tuesday, Teodoro was handed a note reiterating China’s refusal to recognize the ruling.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning later urged Philippine officials to “stop seeking attention and stirring up trouble” and to refrain from undermining China-Philippines relations and stability in the disputed waters.
