00:00I want to talk about Jaden Daniels and the opportunity here.
00:04And I spoke yesterday about what I expect from Jaden.
00:10I think that is one of the most competitive, passionate football players I've ever dealt with.
00:21And it's a quiet passion.
00:23He does it his own way, and that's the only way really you can do anything in this world is
00:27what's true to you.
00:31Now, you are absolutely correct in that you need a better team to be a playoff team.
00:37You need a better defense, particularly, for this team to get back to the playoffs.
00:42I agree with you completely.
00:44I think defensively it's going to look wildly different.
00:46I think they're going to try to take the fight to the opponent rather than just sit back and get
00:50tortured.
00:51That said, I kind of expect a monster year from Jaden.
00:55I'm curious where you land.
00:56Yeah, I'm expecting that, but when I say it about the defense, I'm saying the defense would make it a
01:00lot easier for him.
01:02Because I look back in 2024, and the defense wasn't great.
01:08No.
01:09But they were okay.
01:10They got turnovers.
01:11And they got turnovers, and they gave him more opportunities.
01:13They didn't allow the other team to score as many points.
01:16And you saw him get into this rhythm.
01:19And he had fun.
01:21Last year, every time he stepped on the field, he was in the mindset of, I got to be that
01:28dude.
01:28And I think when you're trying to be that dude, it makes you press more, which causes a problem.
01:33If he settles down and plays like he wants to play, they have problems.
01:38You know, and I expect him when he's, like, there, he is so much more dangerous to a team than
01:45an opposing defense than he is when he's trying to be the guy.
01:48Totally.
01:49Yeah.
01:49And I think he's evolved.
01:51He's talked about, you know, I'm a passer first, and God bless me with my legs, and I'm not going
01:56to stop using them.
01:57But, like, we're going to win from the pocket as an offense.
02:01And I think this offense will really help him with that.
02:04You know, it's funny you mentioned the having fun thing.
02:07And just looking at the game logs from last year, the opening game against the Giants was fine, kind of
02:12ugly.
02:13He got hit a little bit.
02:15Was pretty good.
02:16Didn't turn the ball over.
02:17They were able to run the ball well in that game.
02:19And the Giants were just completely inept offensively.
02:23Then you go to week two, Green Bay.
02:25It's crazy to me.
02:26They had played two games last year before they're going to play one this year.
02:30Now, some of that was a product of having a Thursday night game in week two.
02:34But they go up to Green Bay and are just getting beat up.
02:37Jaden's getting beat up.
02:38He was sacked four times in that game.
02:40I feel like he was hit a lot more.
02:41He tried to run a lot in that game.
02:44I mean, he had seven technical carries for only 17 yards.
02:48And he gets injured late in that game.
02:50That was the groin, I believe.
02:54Nobody was having fun that night in Green Bay.
02:57Especially not you and I when we had to drive to Milwaukee at 4 in the morning.
03:00We didn't have to drive anywhere.
03:02You drove.
03:03I did not drive.
03:04You had weed.
03:05Derek was terrible on the radio.
03:07I remember that.
03:07Garbage.
03:09And then he's out for the Raider game, out for the loss to Atlanta.
03:14I honestly wonder, the only time Jaden might have had fun last year was the Chargers game.
03:22Chargers game.
03:22He got to go back to L.A., back to his hometown.
03:24He was good.
03:25They ran the ball really well.
03:27And you know what happened in that game?
03:29They got down early.
03:31And the defense made plays.
03:33Yes.
03:33They lifted them up in a lot of ways.
03:35Exactly.
03:36And I think, you know, the defense I think generated three or four turnovers in that game.
03:42That's just the one.
03:43I thought the one.
03:44Mikey had the interception at the goal line.
03:46I remember that.
03:46But, like, they were down early.
03:49It was 10-0 early.
03:50And then all of a sudden, they were able to turn it around.
03:53You could tell.
03:54You could really, like, sense what being in L.A. meant for Jaden in that game.
04:01He had a lot of family there.
04:04And, honestly, I think if you could, I mean, we could look at it.
04:09You and I were there.
04:09We talked to him.
04:10The Bears game, because of the late fumble, he was miserable.
04:13He was just miserable.
04:14The Dallas game, one, they're getting smoked.
04:17Two, he gets hurt again.
04:18No fun.
04:19Chiefs game, he's out.
04:21Seahawks game, he comes back, gets hurt again.
04:23Oh, by the way, they get their ass kicked.
04:25Then he misses three straight, comes back from Minnesota.
04:28That game was a disaster on all fronts.
04:31Jaden was bad.
04:32The defense was worse.
04:33The coaching decisions were awful.
04:35The team came out flat.
04:36Like, to me, the Minnesota game last year was the first fireable offense of Dan Quinton's Washington career.
04:42Everything was awful.
04:43So, like, for a kid, like, when we watch the mic'd up segments, the stuff, you know, the behind the
04:50scenes on NFL or that the team puts out, you see he's smiling and laughing.
04:54And, like, that's where you want him to get back to.
04:58You want to always be in that mode.
05:00So, like, the thing about sports, I mean, especially football, it's so violent and so physical that people expect you
05:07to be on edge all the time.
05:09I played this game having fun.
05:12Laughing, joking, you know, trying to get you off your game.
05:16But my guys always knew.
05:18I'm ready to crack one.
05:20You know, I'm going to make a joke so you can keep it light.
05:24And that seems to be the way Jaden plays football.
05:26When you see him overly stressed and overly concerned about stuff, he's not really in his mode.
05:33When he can go around smiling, chewing that gum like he does, that's when he's Jaden Daniels.
05:38I think you can even see when he gets in that stressed mode, he presses a little.
05:48And maybe last year there was so much hype coming off the NFC title game and so much pressure and
05:53expectations.
05:56Where do you think the pressure meter is for Jaden this year?
06:00Lessened?
06:01Heightened?
06:02About him?
06:03Yeah.
06:03If it's on his side, I don't think he's pressed.
06:06I think he's settled down back to what he was after his rookie season where we didn't think nothing fazed
06:12him.
06:13You know what I mean?
06:14And I think last year after the injuries and stuff, listen, every time we know he doesn't pay attention.
06:21But the people around him hear it.
06:23And when people around you hear it, they're discussing stuff, and you're going to hear something.
06:27And I think that got to him a little bit last year.
06:29I want to open the phones.
06:30800-636-1067.
06:33800-636-1067.
06:35What do you think the pressure is like on Jaden Daniels?
06:38And what are your expectations for this offense with Jaden Daniels?
06:42I think two things happened during a really bad week of August, right?
06:49Go to Detroit.
06:50You have Julian Good-Jones at center.
06:52The interior O-line pressure is immediate.
06:55Jaden plays three snaps.
06:57One, two, three.
06:58He's immediately pressured on the first.
07:00If you need a Jaden Daniels highlight from the preseason, it's that he knew to just throw it away.
07:05That's your highlight.
07:07He did not try to make something out of nothing.
07:09And let's hope he at least knows better to not do that in August.
07:13But it's okay if he does that in September and October and December.
07:16Like, if you got nothing, don't try to be a hero.
07:20Chuck that thing.
07:21That is part of the evolution of a star quarterback in the NFL.
07:26The second down play, just straight up jailbreak.
07:29Jaden, credit to the Lions defenders for not laying him out.
07:33They kind of surrounded him.
07:35He took a little pop, but nothing crazy.
07:37Ref blows the whistle.
07:38Dead play.
07:39And then they called a draw on third down.
07:42So, you had the Detroit game.
07:44Then you had the poor offensive effort in Baltimore in the joint practice.
07:49That offensive line for the starters not only didn't have good Jones, also didn't have Cosme.
07:54You had Tojii in at guard because Cosme was sick that day.
07:58And I absolutely believe that the offense looked terrible in Baltimore.
08:04I also absolutely believe that's not what the offensive line group is going to look like on Sunday in Philadelphia.
08:10I agree with that.
08:11You're going to have Allegretti.
08:12You're going to have Cosme.
08:13It's going to look different.
08:15So, I think the negative that we saw coming out of that Baltimore joint practice, it's important to note it
08:23was accurate for the practice.
08:25Like, that is what happened on the field.
08:27Nobody was exaggerating.
08:28But it's also not the same group that will be on the field, at least for week one.
08:33If injuries start to pile up, things could go haywire.
08:37Nobody's discounting that.
08:38But, like, that was not a real representation of what will transpire in Philadelphia.
08:43Now, we'll see.
08:44You're going against Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis.
08:46Like, you've got horses on the Eagles' defensive front.
08:49Mid-time horses.
08:50They've got to perform way better than they did, but it's also going to be different players more capable of
08:55performing better.
08:57I also think the addition of Steph Diggs has changed a lot for this offense.
09:03I think that is a massive factor, and I think Diggs takes pressure off McLaurin, takes pressure off Jaden.
09:16I mean, he gives him a viable weapon.
09:20Like, you look at Zach Ertz, veteran player who knew how to get open.
09:26Yep.
09:26Steph is that as well.
09:28And I think when you have that, like, when you're sitting back in that pocket, okay, I went through my
09:35reads.
09:36Nobody's open.
09:36I know Terry might be open.
09:39Diggs might be open.
09:40Hell, Chig might be open.
09:41You have multiple options you can go to.
09:43Then all of a sudden, you're not sitting up there waiting, waiting, waiting for the guy that's in that read
09:48process to go to.
09:50You know this guy's going to get some space.
09:52I can turn around, hit him, dump it off, move the chains.
09:55The whole thing about this game of football is about moving the chains, and that's all he needs to do.
10:00I want to hit these phones, 800-636-1067.
10:04Let's start with Juke.
10:05Juke, where do you think the pressure is on Jaden Daniels?
10:08There's no pressure.
10:09There's no pressure at all.
10:11My man is a fan of Kobe Bryant, the Black Mamba.
10:14So this ain't nothing but more motivation for my guy.
10:17His name is Timothy Daniels.
10:19Make sure y'all get it correct.
10:20He's coming in this year with a chip on his shoulder, and like I said before, scorched earth all throughout
10:27the league.
10:28As far as the offense, I had to change my mindset.
10:32I don't think Terry's going to be that 10 or 15 catches per game.
10:37He's going to be that chain mover.
10:39He's going to be that guy on third and three that Blount's going to draw up something to make sure
10:44we get those yards or get us a touchdown.
10:47And Chig and Diggs and the rest of those groups is going to fill in in between.
10:52Because I was saying about it.
10:54Think about to that Bengals game.
10:56He had two big-time catches.
10:58He probably had more in between those, but we really don't remember that.
11:01Now, he's got a better surrounding cast with him that's going to help him out.
11:05So you're not going to be able to double-team him, cloud him, none of that, because you're just opening
11:10things up with Diggs and Chig.
11:12So it's going to be interesting to watch, fellas.
11:15That's all I got for y'all.
11:16I appreciate you, Juke.
11:17Thank you, bud.
11:19Let's go to Jeremiah in Fairfax.
11:20Phone lines are open, 800-636-1067.
11:24Jerry, what's the pressure like on Jaden?
11:28Hi, how y'all doing?
11:29Thanks for taking my call today.
11:30That last caller just gave me a nickname idea, the Chig and Diggs.
11:34You've got to hit him with the Chig and Diggs.
11:35But anyway, I think the pressure for Jaden Daniels has to be separated into two categories this season.
11:41And the pressure for him to stay healthy for his physical health and his ability to stay on the field,
11:46I would say, is pretty great.
11:49You know, he hasn't been able to do that at all last season and the first season.
11:53He did get banged up two games and missed most of them.
11:56But I think the pressure for him to perform well isn't really that high.
11:59That's not been an issue even when he was on the field last season.
12:03It wasn't the best of Jaden Daniels, but it certainly wasn't bad.
12:07You know, it was early in the season.
12:08Things can get off to a rough start.
12:09So I just think if he can stay on the field, then there's not really going to be any pressure.
12:13But, man, if there's week two, week three, he pops up on the injury report with something, that's just going
12:18to – I know where that's going to go with the media.
12:20So I just think it has to be separated into two categories.
12:23But thanks for taking my call.
12:24Thanks, man.
12:24Appreciate the call.
12:25How about this stat to your point, B?
12:27My boy Petros just texted me.
12:30Commanders are 12-0 with Jaden at quarterback when they give up fewer than 24 points.
12:37I'll say it right there.
12:38But when they give up over 24, what are they?
12:41Probably a lot less than that.
12:42Because what happens when you're giving up points, your whole game plan changes.
12:47And when your game plan changes, then you start doing things that you didn't practice for.
12:52You start trying to stress and press.
12:54And when you stress and press, nothing but bad things happen.
12:57Because now that other side knows you are trying to do certain stuff, which means they can pin their ears
13:04back and go.
13:05The Seattle game last year was such a debacle.
13:09But Jaden was actually pretty good in that before the injury.
13:12Now, granted, he got hurt, whatever it was, five minutes left in an absolute blowout.
13:17But, I mean, that Seattle game, I believe, was 31-7 at halftime.
13:22I think they had over 300 yards passing at halftime.
13:26But Jaden, in that game, was 16-22 for a buck 50, had the interception, and took four sacks.
13:34He'd also run 10 times for 51 yards with a touchdown.
13:37He was kind of all they had.
13:40C-Rod had a decent game, but a lot of that was late, kind of junk time.
13:46If the defense is going to give up name-your-score games week after week like they did last year,
13:52like, that's not good of anybody.
13:53Jaden wasn't good against Dallas, but it also didn't matter.
13:56Because Dallas could have scored 70.
13:59Yeah.
13:59You know, like, football's a symbiotic game.
14:03Like, you talk about complementary football, it has to work in cohesion with both sides of the ball.
14:10Yeah.
14:11And I think both sides feed off each other.
14:13When you have an offense who knows they're getting the ball back, you're talking about a coordinator now who's starting
14:18to set it up,
14:19and he's in his bag, going in his bag, and then flip it over.
14:22Remember, a defense who knows the offense is going to be on the field for 10, 15 plays.
14:27They can rest a little bit.
14:29But if you've got an offense that every three to four plays, that defense is back out there,
14:33that defense knows by the time the end of the second quarter comes, they're going to be gasping.
14:39So they have to work with each other.
14:40So they have to work with each other.
