00:00Four men, among them two brothers, were charged in the Sungai Pithani Magistrates' Court on Monday
00:06over the murder of a man at an oil palm plantation last month.
00:10Muhammad Bakri Mahidin, 37, his younger brother Muhammad Arif Mahidin, 26,
00:16along with Muhammad Iekram Mohdzaki, 29, and Muhammad Firdaus Che Mustafa, 36,
00:23nodded when the charge was read before Magistrate Noor Farah Hazwani Osman.
00:27No plea was recorded, as the case falls under High Court jurisdiction.
00:32The four, two general labourers, a security guard and a car washer,
00:37are jointly accused of murdering Muhammad Badaruddin Madnayan, age 30,
00:42at a plantation in Kampung Sungai Division, between 1.30pm and 3pm on August 23rd.
00:49The charge, under Section 302, read with Section 34 of the Penal Code,
00:54carries the death penalty or 30 to 40 years' imprisonment with a minimum of 12 strokes of the whip upon
01:00conviction.
01:01Deputy Public Prosecutor Noor Hazwani Mohamed Noor led the prosecution,
01:06while lawyer Duratul Ain Mahmoud Murshidi appeared as friend of the court,
01:11flagging the medical needs of two of the accused.
01:14The court heard Mohamed Yekram holds an OKU card for a physical disability
01:19and suffers a right leg injury from an accident,
01:22while Mohamed Bakri has asthma.
01:25The lawyer said both would require medical attention,
01:28during what's expected to be a lengthy trial.
01:30The magistrate said their care would be managed by prison authorities.
01:34Bail was denied for all four accused.
01:36The case has been set for mention on November 15th.
