Two brothers have been charged with murder in connection with one of the most disturbing cases in Johor's recent history - the discovery of six skeletal remains in Kangkar Pulai.

00:07remains in Kankarpulay. R. Arasan, age 32 and R. Utes, 36, appeared before Magistrate Nabila Nizam
00:15on Wednesday in Johor Bahru, where they were charged with causing the death of a 28-year-old
00:21man. The alleged murder took place between 12.30 a.m. and 4 a.m. on September 15 last year
00:29at a house in an oil palm plantation area in Kankarpulay. Both brothers nodded in understanding
00:36when the charge was read, but no plea was recorded as the case comes under the purview of the High
00:41Court. The brothers were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code and faced the death penalty
00:48or imprisonment of 30 to 40 years with whipping upon conviction. The court set April 6 for next
00:55mention and submission of post-mortem toxicology and DNA reports. Both accused were denied bail.
01:03On January 9, the skeletal remains of six murder victims, including three children and a teenager,
01:09were found in a fire-damaged house in the plantation area. According to Johor Police Chief Datuk
01:15Abdul Rahman Arsaad, the remains were discovered by a 48-year-old man who had been searching for
01:21his family after losing contact for three months. The victims, aged between 2 and 35, are believed
01:29to have died more than three months ago.
