00:00What do you think most about the performance today?
00:02I thought for periods of the game we played pretty well in the game.
00:07So did Manchester United, I thought they played better at times than they have in other games.
00:12But I didn't think we deserved to be behind generally in both actions,
00:18but we lost the first goal a minute into the second half which was pretty shabby.
00:24Then we get back to one each and I felt that if Emdi was probably going to be the team
00:28who would be in Tottenham win it, it would be us.
00:31I thought that we never really get the ball back,
00:34never really controlled the game for the minutes after that,
00:37which allowed them to go and get 2-1 up really.
00:42But I think it would be hard to say that we probably didn't earn enough to get something out of
00:46the game.
00:46A perfect debut, a way to introduce yourself to a new club from Maitland-Naz.
00:52If nobody knew you then that goal would certainly get you plenty of headlines
00:55because it was a brilliant goal technique.
00:59I think everybody will look at the way he finished it
01:01and the goalkeeper not being able to move really for it.
01:04So bits of all that, we've not really had a chance to get to know Ainsley yet either,
01:09which meant that we were trying to put Jimmy Wright back for a period
01:13just to try and get Jimmy more minutes as well and see if we could change it.
01:18Before you know it, Jimmy had gone down with cramp as well, so he got his opportunity.
01:23But we're still trying to get to know Ainsley as well about how his role is and how he plays
01:28it
01:28and how we want him to play it as well, so it will take a wee bit of time.
01:32David, in terms of how the week had gone and all the talk of the transfer window and whatever,
01:38how important was it to have a finale like that, a positive end and the lift?
01:46Well, I think for us to give the crowd big moments, was it a big moment today?
01:54Yeah, it was a big moment to get back when you're in the last minute, you get that.
01:58It didn't feel as big for me because I wanted to win and I felt as if we were capable
02:02of winning.
02:03So that meant I was happy to get the point obviously but still a little bit disappointed that I wasn't
02:08going to go.
02:09I need to win my home games when I can and I want to do that.
02:13But it was a brilliant goal and I thought it was a big moment for the crowd as well.
02:17I think it was good for them.
02:19It's saying something about the team's character that in the last two games you've chiselled points out right at the
02:25end.
02:26And that's the type of thing that will help a new team build.
02:29Yeah, by the way, as a manager you don't plan it that you're going to get a result at the
02:34last minute or take something from it.
02:36No, you're planning to try and win and be in front if you can do.
02:40But when you are behind you need them to dig in deep.
02:43I actually thought the boys done amazing to keep running and keep doing the work and the effort.
02:50Man United when it was 2-1 could have nicked a third to make it 3-1 because they had
02:54a couple of counter attack moments.
02:56And by this time we were a bit more open trying to find an equaliser.
03:01So we've done well to sort of ride there a little bit as well and then obviously we got that
03:06great finish at the end.
03:09Is it too much of a cliche to say that your team, this club, is at its best in moments
03:16of difficulty?
03:18I would like to say that we're pretty good at it, but I don't want us to be in those
03:23moments.
03:24I want me to have a club which is building, ambitious, trying to aim to challenge the top teams in
03:31the Premier League.
03:33Actually when I come back, and I've said it quite a bit, you've probably heard the words I'm saying.
03:37I want us to be a team that can challenge all the top teams.
03:40So Everton supporters are thinking that we're going into some of these games with a chance.
03:44We played Man United here last year and we were lost unluckily in the game I thought on the night.
03:49We beat them at Old Trafford.
03:51So we're challenging, in the recent games we've had pretty good results against Manchester United.
03:56I want us to do that against all the big teams that we can and show them that we're competitive.
04:02Hi David, I wanted to give a word for Tyreek George. He scored his first everything goal today.
04:06He's had some really good performances in recent weeks, but how good was it to really crown one of those
04:11performances with a goal?
04:12I don't know who he's made man in the match, but he was very close.
04:14If he was, I don't know if he was or not, but he had done an awful lot of good
04:18things.
04:19I thought he'd caused them a problem early on.
04:22Dalos should have been booked for his second one.
04:26I find it quite difficult that that wasn't the case and then he gets booked later on.
04:32But I thought he'd done well, Tyreek.
04:35But what we mustn't do is he's a young winger, just beginning to make his way into the Premier League.
04:41We've had lots of them and he'll need a bit of time to develop.
04:45There'll be weeks where it doesn't go well for weeks like today, he played very well.
04:50But we like him, there's a lot of things to like about him and he's a boy who wants to
04:55learn.
04:55Hopefully the games, the regular games will give him a chance to build himself up and get a lot of
05:00confidence of playing at the Premier League levels.
05:02There were some moments there towards the end of the game between him and Barry and Hayden Hackney where there
05:07was some really beautiful one-touch football.
05:10How exciting is it to be able to see these guys develop and maybe get to see some beautiful football
05:14like that here on a regular basis?
05:16I think we're playing much better in some ways, but I want to win more than anything.
05:25I want us to keep playing. I think we've played well at different times, I think football has improved greatly.
05:30Hayden came on today, I thought it made a big impact as well for me.
05:35So really when I look at it, the subs who came on, I thought Jack did as well. Jack said
05:39no minutes.
05:41When you look at his minutes, he's had a couple of small periods for Man City, but nothing really.
05:45Not played for six and a half months.
05:48So we're trying to get Jack into a level where we think that he's ready to play and could play
05:53longer
05:54and certainly get himself more ready for the games coming up.
05:59David, there will understandably be a focus on the goals because they were so good,
06:04but how important was James Tarkovsky's intervention on Matthias Kuhner halfway through that half?
06:08A brilliant tackle and obviously comes after he scored that goal last week.
06:12He had four captains interventions.
06:14Yeah, Tarky's an all-rounder.
06:17There will be moments where you might question him, but he's always there.
06:22He's a great trainer every day.
06:24He leads by example on a lot of things he does.
06:27So he's getting a lot of what he deserves.
06:30Tarky got a good goal for us last week.
06:32But he's defending today in the end, which is very good.
06:36And we've spoken about the importance of home form and hoping to build on or improve on last season.
06:42That was two games here now, obviously a win.
06:44Just to protect that unbeaten record here and just keep the momentum going
06:49and give the crowd those big moments.
06:50Just how important is that for setting the tone of the campaign?
06:53Well, as I said earlier, I'm in some ways disappointed I didn't win the game.
06:58I was setting out to win, setting out to get three points.
07:03But Man City, Man United I'm sure we are also.
07:09But to get back in the game, when we're 2-1 down, we're less than a minute to go.
07:13You're probably not expecting anything.
07:15But thankfully we got the goal, which has kept that little bit of momentum we've got going.

07:26How difficult is it to prevent the negativity that's been around from infecting the dressing room?
07:32As a manager, what do you sort of do to ensure standards, don't we?
07:37Well, the exact opposite, Joyce, was to say that there will be no excuses from any players or none of
07:42us for what's going on.
07:45And the players all agreed.
07:47They said, no, we won't be standing up.
07:48We won't be walking off shaking our heads if we're players short or we're down.
07:53It will be a completely opposite reaction.
07:57And the players have hugely bought into it.
08:00And, you know, sometimes when you've got less players, it means that everybody has to be ready.
08:04Now, today we've only got three subs on, but there will be games where we're needing them.
08:08There will be players who maybe are on the fringes.
08:11They're going to have to go out and show the supporters why they should be in the team or what
08:14they're doing.
08:15So sometimes when you have a small squad, you have to find a way of making it work.
08:20Who knows how it will be for us.
08:22We have to know that it's going to be difficult.
08:25We'll get three-game weeks coming up, which with small scores is the difficult bit in the Premier League.
08:32And do you expect to see Nogard before the international break?
08:35No, we don't, no.
08:37Is he a lot more serious than...?
08:42I think we knew it was something which might keep him out.
08:45We hoped it might have been quicker, but it's not quicker.
08:49But he's just beginning to make a little bit more progress now,
08:52which is pleasing because we're going to need his experience
08:55and we're going to need the extra bodies for us going forward.

09:05You talked about building Jack's fitness up,
09:08but how did you measure the impacts he had when he came on and what it did for the crowd?
09:12Do you think it did anything for the team?
09:13Because that has been a lot of noise about players who've left in the last week,
09:17but to bring Jack back in, what kind of impact do you...?
09:20I thought he'd done very well.
09:21I thought he'd kept his ball a little bit, made a couple of very good passes through.
09:26I think the one he got to the byline, I need to have a look at it again, the one
09:29he got in.
09:30I was wondering if he was going to conjure up a finish or a ball to somebody.
09:36But look, I think he'll be someone who the crowd here loves.
09:41You mustn't forget, he's had a really bad injury, you know, at the top of his foot.
09:44He's not played for six and a half months.
09:46So we have to find a way of getting him fit.
09:50But a lot of Manchester boys will know Jack better than me.
09:54He wants to play, he just wants to be involved in football all the time.
09:58I want to get him fit and ready and doing all the other parts of it as well,
10:02which we require at Everton.
10:03But I have to say, he gives us something else that he can ball carry and retain the ball.
10:09So hopefully we can get him into top form.
