00:00what's going to happen as they get ready to face the Bills coming up in Game 1.
00:06Here is C.J. Gardner-Johnson, first off, saying he don't want to give bulletin board material,
00:12but this is him talking about his front.
00:15I don't want to put no bulletin board material up there,
00:18but they like the line I played when the Super Bowl.
00:20I got guys up front. I don't got just names. I got guys up front.
00:24So from drafted guys, T.J. Parker, Zane, Penn State, correct?
00:28We got named guys that actually can make plays, so we're not just depending on one person.
00:32Let's make it easy as a D-line. We got a plethora of guys that can just go out there,
00:36rotate,
00:36keep them fresh, and Chubb got them going to write, hey, Chubb, Pluto, Deuce, Deuce.
00:42You know, that's my guy. With that guy right there leading the charge, I feel comfortable in Ed.
00:46So I forgot about my workhorse. I forgot about Ed.
00:49Those two itself alone are just going to dominate.
00:51I forgot about the best one.
00:51Wait, see him go.
00:52I forgot about the best one.
00:55They have some guys up there, Clint.
00:57And he talked about there's T.J. Sanders.
00:59They drafted T.J. Parker, guys that are out there.
01:02Walker on the inside with Ed Oliver.
01:04Greg Russo, who had seven sacks last year.
01:07Ed Oliver had ten tackles, three sacks, one forced fumble in three games last year of play.
01:13He had injuries.
01:14Bradley Chubb, eight and a half sacks.
01:16Not what he used to be in Denver, but still a good pass rusher.
01:21Now, they stunk last year.
01:23They were awful against the run and the pass, and their D-line was something that they had to fix.
01:28One of the worst teams, bottom of the NFL.
01:30They were 28th in total rushing yards, given up.
01:33They were 30th in rushing attempts per carry.
01:37And then in passing game, what better?
01:39Their pressure rate was 31st in the league.
01:43Their sack rate was 30th in the league.
01:45This was not a great defensive line.
01:48And I'm just thinking about this from the standpoint.
01:51Last year, Clint, we thought it was going to be an uphill climb walking into the game against the Rams
01:58with their defensive line.
02:01And I'm talking about the one from last year, not this cycle one, but the one from last year in
02:05the offensive line the Texans were bringing in.
02:08And what's your thought process on what we're going to see?
02:13What do you expect, and what should be the expectation from the Texans' offensive line that they're bringing in when
02:19they play Buffalo against this defensive line?
02:22Well, I mean, that's the million-dollar question, to be honest with you at this point, right?
02:28I mean, I feel really good about Trent Brown and Ariante Urshry on the edges.
02:33I mean, when you look at where the problems could arise based on the struggles that we know of and
02:43a rookie offensive lineman, it's guard, center, guard.
02:47You look at where I think their best player is Ed, former U of H, D lineman.
02:55You know, he's inside, obviously.
02:58So, you know, the million-dollar question is guard, center, guard.
03:03Will the Texans be able to hold up really against anybody?
03:05Buffalo just happens to be the first team that we're going to see.
03:08They're going to plan to attack with their best players inside early and often.
03:15And the quickest way to get to CJ is through the A-gaps.
03:19We've seen that, obviously.
03:20And so, you know, the expectation should be that we hold our own.
03:26The expectation should be that we give CJ more opportunities to scan the field and make plays more times than
03:36not.
03:36So, yeah, I mean, I don't really know what to expect that we're going to get out of them,
03:41but I think it's fair to expect that, you know, they protect good inside.
03:47Ed is, to me, the only one that should be a real problem.
03:54Like somebody that you think, like, I can see Ed getting matched up on Evan Brown or on Ed Ingram
04:03or even the rookie.
04:04I can see Ed being a problem.
04:07And, listen, no disrespect.
04:09I think Greg Russo is a good edge rusher.
04:11I think Bradley Chubb is a solid edge rusher.
04:15But where they are in their careers right now, Clint, this is not the toughest type of edge rushers they're
04:22facing, right?
04:23This is nothing what they've been facing in practice.
04:26This isn't Max Crosby.
04:28Like, this is a group that I feel like on the outside they should be able to handle.
04:33Even the young guys, like the two TJs, Ed is the only one, to me, where you walk in and
04:38you're like, to me, I'm like,
04:40I could see some matchups there with any of the three interior guys that could be a problem.
04:47But it feels like, to me, I don't look at these guys and think, well, they have done so much
04:53to really improve their run defense.
04:55Like, I don't look at this and think, boy, they've added so much that this you should feel a lot
05:00different about them in terms of rushing the passer.
05:03So, I feel like for this group and what we've been seeing and how they've been talking about them,
05:08they should be able to mostly handle the Buffalo front.
05:15Ed Oliver would be the one that you're like, I could see him taking advantage of some matchups.
05:20Yeah, I mean, look, this is not a defensive front that should overpower you.
05:25It's not a defensive front that should play in, play out, create chaos the way that we're used to watching
05:30our defensive front here in Houston.
05:32I think it's more focused than that.
05:35And like I said, I think it's interior-wise and it starts with Ed Oliver.
05:38I mean, if Ed becomes a handful for a first-round draft pick, guess what's going to happen?
05:44Ed's going to line up over his tail every single play, damn sure on third down,
05:49and he's going to create havoc, right?
05:51I mean, that's the deal.
05:52There's no doubt about it.
05:53Ed Ingram, he's going to get attacked in passing situations.
05:57Can this offense stay completely out of obvious passing situations?
06:01Not completely, but can they avoid being in third and mid to third and long more times than they're in
06:07third to short?
06:08We'll see.
06:09That's the key, though.
06:10You put that left guard and right guard in position where they've got to protect for a while.
06:14You do it too often.
06:15I've got to believe Ed's going to get home and cause some problems.
