00:00tails it calls a tail it is a head i will receive all right doug question number one
00:05the college football playoff rankings were released last night what stood out to you the
00:10most okay uh what always stands out to me is people who know better the college football
00:15experts freak out over this thing when there's still literally like 45 huge games to be played
00:22things that seem outrageous they typically sort themselves out so i can't believe i'm mad some
00:27knowledgeable people get about the initial rankings but i'm a big believer in strength of
00:31schedule so i will say with a moderate and appropriate amount of anger i cannot believe
00:37that indiana is ranked so high signetti's a great coach but the one thing that i don't like about
00:43him is he falls just short of bragging about his non-conference scheduling western kentucky howard
00:48and north texas if you're going to schedule that way and and not have any like massive win up until
00:56this point i cannot believe that they are ranked as high as they are which is what are they fourth
01:02or fifth uh fourth fourth okay i mean tell me that strength of schedule doesn't matter when your
01:09marquee win is at nebraska northwestern uh whatever i that that's my first takeaway and but i but i'm not
01:19like mad about it these things will sort themselves out well like you of course these things will sort
01:23themselves out in fact this week things will sort themselves out a little bit with all these i think
01:27there's seven uh top 25 matchups uh but to me what stood out was there's a lack of dominant teams
01:35in college football this year there are some areas you can look oh i can't wait to see this matchup
01:39at
01:39the end of the year because you're two really good teams i don't think that's the case this year
01:43we've already seen a lot of attrition i mean the only undefeated teams right now are miami who has
01:48played nobody utah who you could say the same thing about until they played this week against
01:53byu and and ucla who you know they haven't played anybody either they played oregon which is a nice
01:59win for them but was after dante moore got hurt in usc the week before so it's just i'm surprised
02:07that
02:07we don't have a dominant team i would have thought georgia was going to be that dominant team but they
02:12messed around and lost to auburn of all teams you know you've got yourselves one two three four five
02:17six of the top 14 teams have two losses already i think it's all kind of crazy this is yeah
02:25we
02:25shouldn't blow up about this because this is going to be a revolving door of teams that are in
02:30and are out they're in the route i guess the other thing that stands out is the way things have
02:34set
02:35itself up if notre dame loses this week are they out they're done so if they can't knock off number
02:42one miami are they out of this discussion until next year interesting they might be gator but like
02:49you guys i'm not getting worked up about it either it's the first rankings or you know i i don't
02:54care
02:54they sort themselves out like you guys say but there's a reason why they do this and there's a
02:58reason why people get worked up about it it helps them just build you know more talk and hype about
03:02the games and that's the whole point of this thing so that's why they're going to continue to do it
03:05and i totally get it i don't have to get worked up about it but they want people to get
03:08worked up
03:08about it but to answer the question i guess the thing that stands out to me is that there are
03:13three two-team losses in the top 10 and they're ahead of a one loss team like notre dame although
03:18i guess like i said we'll find out notre dame wins they'll be firmly in the top 10 if they
03:23lose
03:23they might not make it so they'll sort itself out in the end anyway may not have actually lost that
03:27game but yeah but yeah but you know what i mean so but they're they're ranked 11th and there's two
03:31there's what three two loss teams like i said in the top 10 so that's what stood out for me
03:37would a high profile neutral site game at ford field work with a without a local tie
03:43i think it absolutely could work you think about this that they used to do these games at jerry
03:47world i mean michigan and alabama play right so they still do let's get a big sponsorship and get
03:53a game over at ford field i would love to see it we love college football here in this state
03:57obviously you know we get you know over 300 000 people every week will go to games in the state
04:03of
04:03michigan we'd love it here we've seen uh things like a banana ball sell out in in seconds we've
04:09seen european soccer exhibitions or friendlies or whatever the hell you want to call them
04:13that they sell out over at the big house in ann arbor we've seen how we we support big events
04:19absolutely i would love to see a matchup of like georgia and usc playing at ford field
04:24you know for in i don't know whatever the gm bowl or something you know it that happens in early
04:30in the season i'd love it so the problem and and look i looked at a bunch of neutral site
04:34games in
04:35the matchups and and how which ones work and which ones don't the problem with georgia usc is one of
04:40them would likely have to give up a home gate and nobody wants to do that the way you can
04:43make this
04:44work though is the ones that are successful even if they don't have local teams they kind of have
04:49regional ties like nebraska will play at arrowhead or wake forest will play an opponent in charlotte
04:55in this particular case if it's not michigan or michigan state what you could do is have ford
05:00field propose to like navy and say will you move your notre dame game to ford field you do that
05:08you'll sell it out and i for one feel like if the timing worked for me if it were like
05:14a night game
05:15and michigan had a new game i'd love to go just be a fan for a game like that so
05:19you got to find
05:19somebody that will sell a home game to go to your place and notre dame would be the opponent
05:23that would draw the fans yeah i think it would work as well i think michiganders love football
05:29and they love big games i think a high profile might be the key two words here though you know
05:32you can't just put any game out there but it's got to be a high profile game and they'll show
05:37up
05:37like gator said like they like big events in downtown detroit it can handle a big event at
05:42ford field without a doubt uh does not need a local tie i would love to see it
05:48who is the best quarterback in the big 10 so i came down to two names and one's more of
05:53a
05:53dual threat but the other one has more big wins on his resume i'm gonna go with jordan mayava as
06:00as
06:00the best one i think he's got the best arm the best uh the best passing quarterback that's left
06:05playing i mean that's that's what we're debating here is who's left playing um but i i decided to go
06:11over bigger wins resume wins than the other one which gets some discussion and maybe i'll just
06:19leave it for you which is aiden giles uh he's been the most accurate passer just under 69 percent on
06:26the season he's got the best touchdown interception rate in the big 10 13 to 1 he's got 23 total
06:33touchdowns including 10 on the ground and he's led northwestern to a six and two start
06:40northwestern is off to a six and two start and this is a guy we saw an awful lot of
06:43for two years
06:43at michigan state and you saw there was talent but he just never really put it together he's put it
06:48together this year and he's having a fantastic year and yeah the question becomes more interesting
06:55because julian sane is out for the year because dante moore is out for the year and you know hoover
07:00just got benched maybe that's injury related or not but it may i was that was the other one i
07:06was
07:06debating too uh and yeah maybe a little bit of a better resume right now but i just i'm fascinated
07:12what chiles has done growing from leaving michigan state and going to northwestern and like oh whatever
07:18he's going northwestern but he's reinvigorated his entire career so obviously this is a question
07:24because it is wide open there's no clear-cut answer because of injuries and things like that
07:28doug i'm with you i want my ava as well for me it came down to though who would i
07:33want right now
07:34that's available to win a big game and i can't go with chiles yet i'm going to my ava
07:42all right ucla is a no a will the bruins run the table and b will they keep their first
07:48year coach
07:48bob chesney uh a no i don't think they're going to run the table in fact i think they have
07:53a real
07:53shot of losing this week at minnesota i'd like the gophers i like pj fleck and and i think he's
07:59got
07:59that team playing well they're at home and they know it's going to be a dog fight against ucla
08:04and i'm just not wildly impressed with what ucla is right now going to the backup quarterback we'll
08:10see where they're at um and then they got the matchup at the end of the year against usc
08:14i just don't see him running the table two yes i think chesney stays um he's seeing wild success
08:22there it's an amazing fertile recruiting ground in the state of california it's ucla which i don't know
08:28if you know this guys it's in los angeles the other thing uh that he's got going for him is
08:34he's built this program right and he's going to get plenty of money ucla is going to throw it right
08:40back at him when the big boys come come asking about him and i just think he's going to stay
08:46there i
08:46think it's a really good situation where they probably have their nil worked out and and they're
08:51going to be one of the uh tough teams to be reckoned with for a while okay i'm going no
08:55and no i don't
08:56believe in dieffenbach uh and i wish i did uh but he's right around in the last two games he's
09:02right
09:02around 50 with less than 400 yards passing against two defenses that have struggled michigan state
09:08and nevada a lesser opponent and no i don't think they're going to keep chesney because uh in the
09:13last seven years ucla's athletic department's been a mess in the last seven years they've run a 241
09:19million dollar deficit they're not getting any revenue from fan support the last two home gates
09:24have been 51 000 fans so the money's not coming in it's not there to support the program and i
09:30think
09:31somebody's going to come along with a big contract and he bolts after one year alumni base so i got
09:36no and no as well doug i don't i think the schedule is not a cupcake coming up here they're
09:40going to
09:40they're going to have a hiccup or two at least and no and chesney staying because good college
09:46football coaches they just don't stay put it's funny to me they complain about players leaving all
09:49time when they do the exact same thing and he's going to get offered something to go somewhere else
09:53with a program that has the resources to back up you know what what he wants to build ultimately
09:58all right through week eight this season there were 131 nielsen rated games on abc
10:07nbc cbs fox and espn with an average of 3.3 million viewers that's down six percent from the same
10:14period
10:14in 2025 when 124 games averaged 3.5 million is this their first real uh-oh feedback that the fans
10:22are giving college football i'm gonna go no and the reason i'm gonna go no is because of schedules
10:28like this coming weekend the most important games are yet to come this is like freaking out over a
10:34score at halftime to me so look at the schedule this weekend and look at the big games that are
10:39going to take place in november then let's circle back and talk about tv ratings yeah i'd have to see
10:45numbers over the last 10 years really make that kind of a declaration but i i completely agree with what
10:50i just
10:50said the biggest games have yet to be played and they're only down six percent over this time you
10:55know last year although i guess it's a comparison right after the first whatever games um but i
11:01it's a dip but i don't know if it's a significant dip until you see full season stuff and with
11:09more and
11:09more streaming services i don't know if all the streaming services are tied in nielsen either so you
11:13get a real accurate uh assessment on how many people are watching these games um but let's let this
11:19play out i think it's way too early to say that uh that it's it's it's in trouble so i
11:24hope it is
11:25in trouble i hope this is i hope this is the first sign of uh-oh because unfortunately greed is
11:29why
11:30most of these decisions are made in college sports right now and i don't like where it's headed
11:33personally so i want them to take a step back and reevaluate the decisions they are making and the only
11:38way they they realize maybe their citizens are making or they're making aren't right is because
11:42the ratings aren't there which means less advertising dollars so i hope the people are saying something
11:46and they actually pay attention to it but that's just me
11:53all right there are six ranked on ranked games this coming saturday which one would you most likely
11:59to attend as a fan what would you most likely want to attend as a fan i've always wanted to
12:05attend the
12:06alabama lsu game at lsu there's something about that stadium i love that stadium uh that the yardage
12:14markers every five yards not every 10 you know the the way they mow the lawn it's different every
12:19five year i love it actually tiger i admit yeah it's just something about that stadium i've always loved
12:24it um and i'm and i'm an alabama fan too so this is this is always the game i i
12:31say man if i ever
12:32travel to watch a game this is the one and and i'd like to sit in between ed odron on
12:36my left
12:37and caitlin collins on my line right okay um as i look at this i can't believe how good this
12:44schedule is with five bucket list stadiums in my book notre dame is hosting miami i've been there
12:51and it's a great venue utah is hosting byu utah i thought about that gorgeous place been there
12:57setting is amazing lsu is hosting alabama for all the reasons you said tennessee is hosting kentucky
13:03that place looks great that big boy and old miss is hosting georgia who doesn't want to go to old
13:08miss this is one of the toughest questions we've ever had i'm going to unfortunately settle into a
13:13place i've already been and it's nostalgia it's notre dame miami and it's it's catholics versus
13:18convicts flashbacks that is such a big game i would go to notre dame miami if i had the choice
13:25gator went through the whole schedule like doug he went through the whole schedule like i was waiting
13:30for the whole thing didn't mention malachi tony though yeah right so i'm gonna stick with what i
13:35always say i'm a sucker for huge matchup and huge games and there's a lot of rent games and good
13:40big
13:40games this weekend but i've got number two georgia at old miss okay it's an sec matchup and i've always
13:46wanted to go and see an sec matchup never been plus it's literally the only reason why i would
13:51ever go to mississippi is probably to watch a football game so this is the reason that's it there it
13:56is that concludes the college football blitz thingy i'm actually really interested in what
14:01the fans have to say about those ranked on ranked matchups let us know which one you'd want to go
14:06to the most there's some great games this weekend just as a fan because these are bucket list venues
