00:00Got one text that said John you're sleeping on Dayton you really should
00:03visit. I know it's in Ohio, but it's worth the trip. It's where I went for my
00:07first visit as a basketball player. Really? Mm-hmm. This was you're in high
00:12school? Yeah, yes, yes. I did not visit them and thinking I would go back to
00:17school. That was before it became a thing, you know, NFL players going back
00:22to school. Yeah, when I was gosh, I can't remember if it was after my
00:27sophomore year went down. They were playing Xavier and saw a game down
00:33there a little took a little tour of the campus. Yeah, is it Xavier or
00:38Xavier? I don't know. It's kind of like how you say the word vehicle. We
00:43love that vehicle. There's an H in there. You make sure to let us know
00:48every time vehicle. Anyway, apparently Dayton has all weekend block parties
00:54every weekend and that's why they're one of the five best party schools and
00:58someone else said Doug and Gator had referenced this list in Arizona State
01:02was number 62. Okay, so I only had I only had through 50. Why would you go?
01:07Yeah, why would you go through? Yeah, one through 128? I want to know where CMU is,
01:12but we can move on. Where would you anticipate CMU? Top 50. Oh, really? Oh, you had
01:17bangers when you were there. Yes, okay. You ask people that would know
01:21historically. Well, it's like Dayton. What else is there to do in Dayton? Not
01:26much. So I guess you party Mount Pleasant. Exactly. That's a different type of
01:29party. It's lame. Google end of the world parties. They're lame parties. Oh, no, they
01:34are. It was. Yeah, come on. You're talking to somebody that transferred to
01:38Michigan State. There's no couches burning in Mount Pleasant. My chips will
01:42back me up on the techs. They never lost. They never played in any games big
01:47enough to lose to burn couches. Yeah, yeah, that's true. Catching all kinds of
01:52strays. Anyway, hey, your boy pitched last night. Fire up chips. Zach McKinstry
01:59and not a great week for the chips. Conklin gets cut. Zach McKinstry is
02:03pitching. Who are you opening up with this weekend? We play New Mexico in New
02:08Mexico. Is New Mexico the team that you had in the quarterbacks? Now we're now we're
02:13finding out why. Well, you think I set it up for no. Well, you're just setting up
02:16for week one if they lose in week if the chips lose in week one. Oh, well cost
02:20it had in the playoff. That's a power team. Yeah, they're going to be in a mix
02:23down there's down the stretch. Here we go. All right. Questions about the Lions
02:28roster. Yeah, I don't think this is their biggest blunder of the offseason, but I
02:32am confused about what's going on with Greg Dortch. So this is a guy who was a
02:37good punt returner and we talked to Dave Fipp at camp. They liked him. They paid him a
02:41million bucks. The idea that they carried five running backs and no punt
02:46returner Dorch is now with Buffalo. So this wasn't some chestnut checkers. We're
02:51going to get him back situation. They just don't have a punt returner. So I'm
02:55not like raising my blood pressure angry upset. I'm just confused. What's the
02:59plan here? Find someone else to be named later. The season starting pretty soon
03:03here. I'd like to get a punt returner. Yes, but you technically don't need one
03:07until really until you get into game week. I mean, they could elevate Tom
03:10Kennedy from the practice squad, but it's an option. You know, it's probably
03:14way down the list, but I got to believe that Brad Holmes has a whole bunch of
03:19different plans in front of them and one of them didn't include Dortch. So that
03:25one has moved on and he's in Buffalo. Now you're just waiting for the rosters to
03:31be, you know, quote unquote finalized because you have teams with four
03:34quarterbacks. You've got teams with five running backs. You've got teams that you
03:38know they're going to make some adjustments and they're as well waiting on
03:42other teams to start that domino effect. Where does it start? Who falls out and
03:47then who can you go get? And I would think that he would have a list of, I
03:51don't know, the top 10 returners that he thinks somebody on that list might
03:54become available and you get in touch with their agency. Hey, if if it doesn't
03:59work out and I'm just going to pick a team in New England, give us, you know, let us
04:03know. We want to be your first phone call, right? What is their biggest offseason
04:07roster blunder? I'm going to go to Kirby Joseph and we obviously don't know
04:14everything that the, that the lines, the medical staff, that Dan Campbell, Brad
04:17Holmes, no, but I don't know that they have any definitive information on what
04:24they think they're going to get out of Kirby Joseph. Having said that, you look at
04:29the guys that they've brought in or that will be starting because they, they, I
04:32think they were confident in knowing that Brian Branch wasn't going to start the
04:36season on the roster. He's on the pup. He's not going to be available to week
04:40five and we'll see if he is actually playing when they bring him off of, of
04:45the pup list starting week five. Who knows? Having said that, you look at
04:51Avante Maddox. Now I know, you know, he spent the bulk of his career in Philly. I
04:56think we'd all agree that they're a good defense. They brought in
04:58somebody that is, is competent at the position. He said his moments. Chuck
05:02Clark spent a long time in Baltimore. What do we think about them? Good
05:06defense. So, you know, these guys, even though they may have been late round
05:10picks have been able to survive and be players on other teams that are really
05:17good defenses. The problem is you bring those guys in here. They don't have the
05:22same supporting cast around them to flourish as the starting free safety or
05:29the starting strong safety. And there's a difference in, Hey, it's a Monday night
05:33for a game. Legion of whom it's right. That was a one off right to bank on it for
05:38extended stretches. So you could say the safety position and not addressing it
05:43more thoroughly was their biggest offseason blunder with a little more
05:46substance. Yeah, because, but here's my thought on it. Their biggest blunder is
05:51actually corner two. There is a world where they could convince themselves
05:56branch and Joseph are going to play this year. We don't need to go at a starter.
06:00We need to have a couple band-aids. I'm not sure why they thought Terry on
06:03Arnold when healthy, who was bad, was good enough. And then he got in legal
06:07trouble and they still didn't do anything to address the position. I'm not
06:12going to fight you on it. I think you could just wrap it up and say they didn't
06:15do enough in the secondary. Because if you look at this team and you look at all
06:18the different things that could possibly hold the team back, what is the one
06:22thing that nearly everybody, whether it's fans, it's experts, it doesn't matter
06:27who is, it is the question marks that they have in the secondary. A lot of
06:32people feel like they have addressed the edge opposite Aiden Hutchinson with
06:35Derek Moore, DJ Wanham, Hassan, you know, throughout the course of the preseason
06:39has been a productive player. We'll see what happens in the regular season, but
06:42they feel like they've done enough up front. Aleem McNeil, another year removed
06:46from the injury, Tyleek Williams in better shape. You know, we would all of
06:49the talking points that we've had, all of those guys working in front of the
06:54best linebacker in the NFL coming out of last year in Jack Campbell. Yep.
06:59Devin White, they addressed that situation after Jimmy Rolder went down. And by the
07:03way, Rolder not going to start the season on the IR. So you feel like you would
07:05think that he'd be back sooner rather than later. Yeah. Now it's the secondary is what
07:09we keep pointing to. And should they have done more? You guys let us know what you
07:13think the biggest offseason blunder was two, four, eight, five, three, two,
07:16four, eight, five, three, nine, 97, 97. Get the number out, right? You said
07:21Aleem McNeil and we keep circling him. I actually think his full name is Aleem
07:25McNeil a year off of the injury with how often we say it hyphens included. Yes.
07:30And Tyleek Williams is lost 50 pounds. That's his middle name. Tyleek lost 50
07:34pounds Williams. Yeah. But the secondary, we don't really have these guys that
07:37we're looking at with that extra upside. Right. Right. Like wait till this guy hits his
07:43stride. There's not a lot of those guys. It's can they hold down the water with
07:46you mentioned Harper Clark Maddox. It's like, okay, can they just hold down the
07:50four? Those aren't guys that you feel like, oh, there's another gear for them
07:53to hit and unlock another level for this defense. Right. And with the fact that
07:58those guys are going to be the ones that are, you know, over the top support of
08:02of a corner that is unproven and may not be sufficient. So it's kind of one of
08:08those things that just compounds itself. And then you're just sitting there
08:11hoping, hey, we better get home. We better get to the quarterback before he
08:15has a chance to throw the ball. Got some texts from people coming in on the
08:18partner turner job. They want to know if they should put Jameer Gibbs back there
08:21or J-Mo back there. Yeah, I don't see that. I don't think that's going to happen
08:26either. Would they be great? No question. I think they would be great, but you're
08:30not going to risk their injuries and how important they are to the offense. So from
08:34the return spot to the safety to the corner, maybe it's something we missed. Tell us the
08:38biggest offseason blunder as the Lions get ready to go and finalize their roster.
08:42It's 97-1.
