The Steam Machine is an interesting concept with a design we love, but the internal hardware raises some questions. We break down the performance benchmarks and explain why we personally wouldn't buy one.

00:00Where do you think you're landing on the Steam Machine? Would you buy one?
00:03Personally, with my money, no. I can absolutely see the value for a lot of other people.
00:06I think it's a very interesting device. I love the design of it.
00:10I think it's sort of where I would hope that mini gaming PCs move in the future,
00:15and perhaps PC gaming moves in the future.
00:17It weirdly feels ahead of its time in certain respects.
00:20And then in terms of the internals, it feels a little bit behind.
00:23And one of the reasons I wouldn't get one is because, looking at the benchmarks so far,
00:27it hasn't got the headroom now to deliver the frame rates I want without major caveats.
00:32You can slap frame generation on top of it,
00:34but your base frame rates in certain games are going to be low enough
00:36that that's still going to be a bit of a latency, laggy,
00:39not the experience that I personally would want.
00:41Some people will feel totally different.
00:43But that's sort of where I'm at with it.
00:45It's a cool thing. I like the attempt.
00:50I like the aesthetic. I like the design.
00:52In terms of, do I want one?
00:54Would I play all my games on it?
00:56Would I drop over a grand on what's sitting in front of me here?
00:59I'm sorry. I'm sorry I wouldn't.
