00:00I think for Bill, the dream, sadly, is probably still to coach in the NFL again.
00:06Of course, yes.
00:08And I think what that means is he'll hold on to this job for however long he can, right?
00:16And I don't know if North Carolina want to fire him.
00:20So this is something that I was, if we're grading it right now, very wrong about.
00:25But it was one season.
00:27One of the things I liked about the Bill Belichick hire was that it gave them Stephen Belichick as the
00:34defensive coordinator.
00:36Now, his son.
00:37Now, he's probably not going to be there.
00:39Last, you know, reports were that he was on medical leave.
00:42I don't know that situation.
00:45But just Stephen Belichick, the season prior to their North Carolina debut, was the defensive coordinator for the Washington Huskies
00:55and produced a national top 30 defense.
00:58So to me, I just thought based on, you know, I thought that's a good hire for North Carolina.
01:05Like a young D.C. with Stephen Belichick's pedigree has now produced at the college level.
01:11Like, so you get Bill to kind of raise your status, and then eventually you'll just hand it over to
01:16Stephen Belichick.
01:16That works great.
01:18They're less likely to do that, obviously, if this is all a disaster.
01:22I think what you would agree with is UNC are almost as incentivized as Bill for this to work, right?
01:31So they are – I don't think they'll fire him in the middle of the year.
01:35I don't think they want to do it.
01:37North Carolina, like if you bring the basketball program into it, Craig, and hiring Michael Malone, former Denver Nuggets head
01:43coach,
01:43like they're chasing status a little bit.
01:47We'll see what the results are going to be.
01:49I'm bullish a bit right now on what Michael Malone will be for North Carolina here.
01:53I just – last year was a mess.
01:56There's no other way to describe it.
01:58The expectations are much lower this year.
02:00Like, if they do go 6-6, can I call that a success, Craig?
02:05I think that'd be fine, yes.
02:07I do think that'd be fine.
02:08I guess what it is with me is that if I try to think back and I think historically –
02:15now, the game has changed in college football to degrees that we're never going back again.
02:20As they say, you can't put the genie back in the bottle.
02:22You can't do it.
02:23But if you think historically, Kevin, some stuff is going to come with Bill Belichick.
02:30But in no way could you have expected the girlfriend, the Lombardi issue, the son.
02:37Like, you could not have expected all of this stuff to happen in a 365-day calendar year.
02:42And so, Kevin, that just sort of tells me it's just too wacky, man.
02:47Like, stuff is happening that we are not privy to.
02:51You have the athletic directors and the boosters and everyone sitting in a room in some conference room in Chapel
02:57Hill, Kevin.
02:57And I wonder if they are wondering, oh, my gosh, what did we get ourselves into here with this?
03:03Did we make a mistake?
03:04To your point, I will say that I believe you're probably right.
03:09That it's – I don't see them firing him.
03:13But then ask yourself this question, Kevin.
03:16If they're 2-6, if they're, you know, 3-5, and they know, Kevin, and they know at the end
03:24of the season,
03:26the carousel and the circus is not coming back, what would they do?
03:31What would they do?
03:32Would they say, yeah, just go ahead and finish the season?
03:35Or would they do what every other college football and basketball program does,
03:39which is say, let's get ahead of this, eat the money, give the message out there to our recruits,
03:44the circus is done, we're bringing somebody else in?
03:47I mean, it's crazy to associate circus with Bill Belichick.
03:50It was the opposite at New England.
03:52I just – it's one of those things where trending to me, the wrong way.
