00:00Well, take a look at the last two years in Kansas City without Eric Bien-Aimé for Patrick Mahomes.
00:08How much of an influence?
00:09Remember people were saying, hey, he's just a clipboard holder.
00:12He's a guy that really has no influence over the play of a quarterback.
00:16It's more Andy Reid.
00:17And I'm not saying that Andy Reid doesn't have the influence over the player when it comes to designing plays
00:23and putting that offense into a place for them to have great success.
00:27But I'm going to tell you, assistant coaches matter.
00:29You know, there was a situation a couple years ago when they were on the sidelines to both of them,
00:34Patrick Mahomes and Eric Bien-Aimé.
00:36And he didn't like a play that was being called.
00:39And Eric Bien-Aimé took his headsets off, handed them to Patrick Mahomes,
00:43and Andy Reid came over and separated both guys.
00:46Sometimes you have to have that middleman and that guy in the middle to do what?
00:52Do you know what it is to tell a superstar player like LeBron James or Michael Jordan?
00:58No.
00:59How many of the great athletes have we ever seen have a great coach or manager next to them?
01:07How about Phil Jackson in Chicago?
01:09Hey, Mike, you can win scoring titles all you want.
01:12Hey, Mike, you can have all the points.
01:14But guess what?
01:15If you don't involve the rest of your team, we're not going to win NBA championships.
01:20Michael Jordan never won another NBA scoring title ever again once Phil Jackson became the starter,
01:25the head coach of the Chicago Bulls.
01:29How about when Tiger had Steve Williams on his bag?
01:33Tiger, that's a bad club.
01:35Don't take that club.
01:37Use this club.
01:38Tiger had a guy say no to him.
01:42Pick a great coach.
01:43Joe Montana.
01:44Bill Walsh.
01:45Joe, this is the play we need to run.
01:49Every single superstar player that has ever been a success.
01:54How about Bill Belichick and Tom Brady?
01:58Tom, what are you doing?
02:00How about the times on the sidelines with Bill O'Brien?
02:03Both those guys are screaming at one another.
02:05Or he's talking crap to Josh McDaniels.
02:08All the greats had one guy in the building that always said this to them.
02:14No.
02:15You know, I don't know why LeBron James is four and six in the postseason.
02:20Because nobody told him no.
02:22Except for one coach.
02:24And that coach was Eric Spolstrom.
02:26And Pat Riley.
02:28That's why he didn't want to be around that.
02:30Because those guys would have put more legendary titles around LeBron James' name
02:34if he just would have stuck with the best basketball coach in the game today.
02:39That is Eric Spolstrom and the great Pat Riley.
02:43When you have people like that in your life.
02:46I had Jimmy Johnson when I was at the University of Miami and in Dallas.
02:51We knew all the time where we stood.
02:54You are not doing this.
02:56You need to do this.
02:58And when you got a guy like Eric Biennemi, who everybody laughed at, sometimes, listen,
03:04guys like that don't become great head football coaches.
03:07But their value is dealing with players.
03:11Mahomes has not been the same player the last two years.
03:14He's just not been.
03:15He's been injured.
03:17He's been underperforming in many ways.
03:19And again, too, obviously the roster is not the same that it was five years ago.
03:24How about this?
03:25When Eric Biennemi was there as the offensive coordinator, they went to the AOC championship game.
03:32Every year, he was the OC in Kansas City.
03:36And the last year, they did not go.
03:39Mahomes gets hurt.
03:41They were under .500 at the beginning of the season.
03:43And they didn't have that voice in the building saying no.
03:48Because Andy is a great coach.
03:51Andy Reid is, without a doubt, will go down as one of the greatest signal callers, play callers of all
03:58time.
03:59And without a doubt, the way he constructed that roster with Brett Veach, their general manager, has been second to
04:05none.
04:05But when you have great assistant coaches, you know, I use this example all the time with Jimmy Johnson.
04:12Jimmy had the same assistant coaches that I had at Miami when we won national titles that he had when
04:19he won Super Bowls in Dallas.
04:21Every single one of them.
04:22You think there's any coincidence that every single one of those players followed him from, and coaches, followed him from
04:29Oklahoma State to Miami to the Dallas Cowboys.
04:34Tony Weiss, the great O-line coach.
04:36Dave Wonstadt.
04:37Butch Davis.
04:38All those coaches.
04:40Dave Campo.
04:40They didn't turn out to be really great NFL head coaches, but they were especially assistant coaches that were just
04:48off the charts and great.
04:50Because you know why?
04:51They knew how to deal with players, and they knew how to get the best out of their players.
04:56That's the mark of a great coach, in my opinion.
04:58Constructing a great staff.
05:00And when sometimes the public looks at it, Eric Bien-Ami was just a clipboard holder.
05:06I think Kansas City is going to bounce back this year with Eric Bien-Ami.
05:10And with Patrick Mahomes.
05:12And I expect a big season from Kansas City.
05:14Don't be shocked if they end up winning the AFC West.
05:17That's going to be a competitive, competitive conference and a competitive division.
