Transcript
00:00Trevor Kaithness and we're here in the middle of our Kintour operation Kaithness Pastoral
00:04and that's situated about eight kilometres south of Bansdale. We've sort of started on country
00:09which has been a very low fertility country. Being first generation here we've always struggled for
00:15cash flow and so really we've had to drive every dollar out of the business we can.
00:20So we've been nominated for the innovation in agriculture award and yeah I suppose our business
00:26has always had a lot of innovation in it. We're a first generation operators here. We've done
00:33everything from livestock transports that can cut cattle one way and fertiliser back home on the
00:40return trip. Done a lot with grain storage and how we store grain. This business has been a grain
00:49growing business with a small amount of cattle and it's turned into a cattle business with a small
00:53amount of grain and we're standing here in a barley paddock. This paddock's had an interesting process
00:59where we've actually developed a deep ripper where we actually liquid inject fish hydrolysate down into
01:05the subsoil. We've always known that we have a lot of problems in these soils with excessive bacteria
01:11and not enough fungi and hence we don't get a lot of nutrient cycling but actually we've just had a
01:17a field day here yesterday and we're proud to say that we've actually cracked 50% fungi and 50%
01:22bacteria
01:23so really pleased with this process in this project.
