00:00In the final days of the Melbourne Royals show, I asked some of the top winners a very simple question.
00:04What keeps you coming back in a year like 2026 to win those top ribbons?
00:08For producers like Tainong North's Cameron McIntyre, whose bull valiant won Charolet Grand Champion,
00:13the show still gives that official stamp on genetics.
00:16From a genetics and from a breeding and program side, having a Grand Champion bull is pretty important.
00:24Not only it helps us with our future breeding program, having a stud style like valiant after winning the Grand
00:31Champion,
00:32it's also great from a genetics and recognition point of view.
00:37Ross Draper from Arthurs Creek has been exhibiting at Melbourne for 45 years, and he has seen the show change
00:42over that time.
00:43He's made a good run this year, taking Red Pole Supreme Champion, but today the show is more of a
00:48tradition for the stuff principal.
00:49That gives the people from the city an opportunity to come and touch cows, pat them, whatever, as long as
00:56the owners are there.
00:57And the other thing about shows is that it's like a fair social sort of thing,
01:02that you meet a lot of people that you know every year here and you don't see them anywhere else
01:06much.
01:07So, yeah, it's pretty good that way too.
01:09Another regular exhibitor is Finlay High School, whose community-wide efforts in agriculture culminate in the ventures to shows like
01:15Melbourne,
01:16where this year they won Paul Dorsett's Supreme Champion.
01:18We're here for the students, so we're here to educate students, we're here to engage students,
01:23we're here to motivate them to become part of the agricultural industry in some way.
01:28I really enjoy it, like, obviously the community involvement and everything with the school,
01:33but, yeah, it's a lot of pride, you have a lot of pride in saying, oh, I did this, I
01:37did that.
