00:17hi i'm mallory thompson i'm the stunt coordinator for palm royale i'm colby lemmo and i was a stunt
00:23double on palm royale i'm sonia wadji and i was a stunt double on palm royale and we're here to
00:28discuss the importance of stunts on the process
00:43okay so we're here in oregon at the timberline lodge we took over the lodge to film this sequence for
00:50a week they fall out of a window and then slide down the whole mountain and it just goes on
00:57and
00:57on and on so this is actually kristin and josh a lot um here we actually were towing them
01:04behind a snowmobile they were holding on they and oh then they were flying over a snow cliff
01:11um here are doubles flying down the mountain there's josh lucas like going for it there's
01:17kristin it just kept going on and on it was so fun
01:26so this was a high fall off of a snow cliff that they actually ended up landing into boxes
01:31that our doubles did to slide down a mountain and have any bit of control is quite difficult because
01:37we wanted them to run into each other and then be apart it's not easy to slide in clothing so
01:43we
01:43actually put these little slides underneath the performers and strapped them onto them so that
01:49they could slide down the mountain so we did a lot of prep we actually went out and and shot
01:53a previs
01:54on the mountain and in like in sleeting rain and snow and we built these snow ramps we did a
02:00lot of prep
02:01to figure out how to make this look good but also funny it was pretty difficult for our doubles but
02:07also
02:08everyone was laughing and having the best time doing this and everyone behind camera was also
02:13just laughing so hard
02:29the script said a dynasty style fight ensues what you're seeing here is actually our previs so it's
02:35our rehearsal footage with doubles and then our actual final cut so we did a bunch of research
02:41and watched all these dynasty fights and then came up with all of the craziest ideas josh fried and i
02:47who's a our fight coordinator we came up with ideas like sliding one across the bar and then crashing a
02:54frame over one of their heads and all these things so i brought them to the showrunner and to the
02:59director stephanie lang and abe our showrunner and they said yes to everything so we just kept coming up
03:05with more and more obnoxious things to play with through the house back through the house up the
03:11stairs down the stairs i think in the creation of this fight like mallory was saying is that the
03:17script was pretty vague in the dynasty inspired fight that we were creating here and with the help
03:23of josh fried our fight coordinator mallory and him came up with these ideas and these concepts but
03:27it's not until the day that you get into the space and that you're in the actual set that you
03:32see
03:32what's possible and so all of this you know the bottom video here is our previous like mallory
03:38said it was all kind of they had a they had a layout but we didn't know exactly how it
03:43was going to go
03:44until that day so as you start piecing it together everything sort of just melds and it becomes this
03:50fight and you know like i said josh fried our fight coordinator you know shot this previous and edited it
03:56and as you can see the comparison with what we did on the day is pretty pretty spot on to
04:01what we did
04:02in that rehearsal creating this i was just watching this clip and the moment that the picture goes over
04:08my head we had to do it a couple times a few times because the canvas was not cooperating with
04:14us my
04:14head was not going through the canvas so we had to work with the team to score it all different
04:20types of
04:21ways to make sure that when kristen was able to pull it off the fireplace that it actually like
04:26broke over my head versus you know bouncing it bounced off my head it was a mix of colby and
04:33i
04:33kristen and claudia doing the candelabra with the spool of leopard tapestry which was the tapestry i feel
04:40like was like six foot long roll of of fabric and the candelabra was like truly heavy so it was
04:48fun having
04:49to like manipulate that with each other and also be safe for the actresses and us i think we did
04:54we
04:55broke a candelabra we broke a candelabra too they run back across the room an amazing actor on actor
05:02slap happens with kristen and then they go up the stairs and you guys do a dual stair fall these
05:09outfits
05:09don't lend to a lot of padding for our doubles and then they're going into a real wooden table that
05:14was
05:14scored but it was a really hard that was not a breakaway table no table that was solid wood

05:24you're tangled up like that you don't know which way is up which way is down left right and we
05:29were
05:29yeah you got slammed sorry yeah it's okay with us in this career we prepare for it every day
05:35as far as our training so it's like years of training months of like physical training that prep you
05:41for your work day you know i train i go to the gym every day and so when you go
05:45to the gym every
05:46day for like four hours every morning she's intense we all work out pretty much every day yeah but
05:51sonia there's a lot i do a little extra but it's a that's also like my mental my mental preparedness
05:57as well it's the discipline that i enjoy it it helps me yeah it helps me you know prep for
06:02the long
06:03days of lying down the stairs and tackling colby into the pool and getting to do the things like
06:10a three minute long female on female dynasty style fight is so different than our normal stunts that
06:17we get called for that it was just such a fun thing to plan and execute together with an amazing
06:24cast and crew the whole crew just felt so collaborative felt so supportive and so positive
06:30it was truly a joy to show up to work every day with actors that are truly some of the
06:36best at what
06:37they do and being able to watch them and interact with them it was such a collaboration you know
06:42kristen and claudia were watching colby and i do our takes behind the monitor we were watching their
06:46takes behind the monitor all of us giggling they brought such a unique like physicality to their
06:52own characters that it was important for us to watch their takes because we had to match their
06:57physical performance and what they were doing it was also so special because one it was led by
07:02abe our fearless incredible leader but then he brought in so many amazing women like stephanie
07:07liang was our director sherry and emma wrote this episode 206 it's been so special and different we
07:14are very honored to be the first all-female nominated stunt team being coordinator and performance it's
07:20really special to have that with these ladies who i'm so impressed by and inspired by and so honored that
07:28you guys were on the team it's something that we didn't realize when we were nominated that that was
07:35what was happening that history was being made in a way there's been so many amazing women that's
07:41come before us and you know who paved the way shauna duggins has won an emmy and we're you know
07:47following in her footsteps humbly thank you for watching deadlines the process
07:52that school the inside of it i remember there was a couple of takes because the inside of it it
07:57was cardboard and it was strong and it was thick and with the material but there were takes that
08:01it like cracked in half so i have to hold it so that didn't it didn't look like you had
08:05to bend it
