00:00Hello everyone, this is William Chambers. It is good to be here with you all today once again.
00:06If I had a title for this message today that we're going to talk about, it would be called
00:12Cursed by Your Own Trust. The warning of Jeremiah 17. Is it possible that you can be cursed by what
00:24you trust in? Some people trust in money, some people trust in people, some people trust in
00:30themselves. But what if the very thing you're putting your trust in is the reason why your
00:37life feels dry and empty? Oh, we're going to talk about that today. Thus saith the Lord,
00:44Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the
00:51Lord. For he shall be like a heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh, but shall
00:58inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land, and not inhabited. We as people,
01:06we have hidden idols. People may say all the time, I believe in God, I really put my trust in
01:12God.
01:13But when you look at their lives, our lives reveal that really, I trust myself. Really,
01:20I trust my money. Really, I trust my friends. Really, I trust what I can control. Ah, you can say
01:27you
01:27trust God, but your life might be saying a total different story. Ah, that is common. Help us. God
01:35has never designed us to live this life self-sustained, where we become our own providers. Ah, we become
01:44self-sufficient within ourselves. Mmm. We become the source of our protection. When we do this, the
01:50weight crushes us, because we're not designed for that kind of thing. God is our protector. God is our
01:57sufficiency. God is our help. He is our source. God is concerned with not just your behavior, but where
02:06your heart is moving. Is your heart moving closer and closer to flesh, closer and closer to the
02:13attractions of this world, and away from him? The Bible says that is cursed. Ah, that's a cursed
02:21disposition. Cursed is the man that trusted in man. That is a curse, because you're moving away from me.
02:29It says that our life will become dry when we do that. Our life will become blind when we do
02:35that.
02:36Our life will become barren when we do that. It says, for a heath shall be like a heath in
02:41the desert.
02:43A heath is a small desert shrub that survives in the desert in harsh conditions, but it does not flourish.
02:51It is not fruitful, and it does not grow as it should. It's alive, but it's not striving and growing
02:59like it should. Have you ever seen somebody just alive, but it seemed like they were lacking
03:04spiritual life? Ah, spiritual vibrancy, not the flourishing in the spirit. It is the spirit that
03:12we look to by which we grow. Ah, Jesus said, without me, you can't do nothing. Are you attached to
03:18the
03:18vine? Ah, if you're not attached to the vine, oh, you have an issue. You become like a heath in
03:25the
03:25desert. Just, you're surviving, but you're not flourishing. You're surviving, but you're not
03:31fruitful in this life. Ah, help today. Another outcome of this cursedness, it says, and shall not
03:38see when good cometh. There will be a spiritual blindness. Ah, meaning God can bless, but you will
03:45not be able to see it. God will put opportunities in your life, but you will not be able to
03:50see it.
03:51A move of God can be happening in your life, but you will be totally blind to it. The text
03:56said,
03:57when we trust in men, we become spiritually dull and spiritually insensitive, and our spiritual sight
04:04becomes distorted. Help us today, God. Shall not see when good cometh. And then it goes on talking
04:11about the consequences and the outcomes of this cursedness. It's just explaining it. It's saying,
04:17but shall inhabit the parched places. Oh, goodness. Parched places is the places without life.
04:24Mmm, nothing refreshing in your life. Meaning that your life is a bit dried out, a bit dehydrated.
04:33Dehydrated of what? Dehydrated of joy. You're missing out on a little bit of joy because who you trust in
04:39them. When you trust in men, you miss out on your joy. Oh, you're dehydrated of peace. Oh, you're missing
04:44out
04:45a little bit of peace because of who you trusted in. Oh, for Jesus Christ is the prince of peace.
04:51You're dehydrated in your renewal. Jesus renews us. They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their
04:57strength. Oh, goodness help us. But you ain't been having no renewal because of where your trust is.
05:03You're in a cursed place. Oh, this is what happens when we trust in men. I know exactly what it
05:09is
05:09to live a life of little results, to be trusting in myself. Even as a believer, I know exactly.
05:13Meaning your relationship struggle because you're dependent upon yourself. Meaning there's fruit
05:20that's absent because you are dependent upon yourself. You are trying to make it happen in
05:25yourself. And it's not by power, not by might, but by my spirit. I know exactly what this is to
05:31have
05:31things not work, to be frustrated with life, to be empty in life because I'm trying to do it on
05:37myself.
05:37It goes on to say in a salt land, not inhabited, nothing settles there because you're miserable,
05:46because you're manipulative, because you're trying to make things happen. Nothing settles there.
05:52Peace don't settle there. Joy don't settle down there. Relationships don't want to settle down there.
05:59Everything seems temporary and unstable because you're trusting upon flesh. And that is a cursed
06:07place. Many people don't realize that the reason why they feel dry and the reason why life feels
06:14empty is because of what they are trusting in. They're trusting in flesh. They're trusting in men.
06:20And the problem is they try to fix their own problems. They try to fix their own dryness.
06:25They try to fix their own emptiness. They try to fix their own frustration,
06:29but never make the connection that the reason why I'm in this problem is because I'm not trusting in
06:33God. They don't make the connection that the reason why I'm in this problem is because
06:40the root of it is my trust is in men. My trust is in flesh and not God. So they
06:46try to fix a problem,
06:47but they never really know what the issue really is. So they never end up fixing it. And life is
06:52always dry without God. Life is always empty and frustrated without God. And I know exactly what
06:58this is, even as a believer, because I didn't know what it was to put my faith in God. And
07:03I trusted
07:03in myself. I tried to make things happen. And boy, did that turn out bad. Everything left me.
07:11But praise be unto God, because you can have new life. Samson, you can grow your hair back. When you
07:18put
07:18your faith in God, I got to calm down. God is awesome. That's not part of this message. Jesus
07:24Christ is everything. Let's put our faith in Christ Jesus and let us not trust in our own flesh and
07:31in
07:31our own strength. In Jesus name, we pray and say, Amen.
