00:07Today, we're going to look into the Word of God. And if I had a title for today's message,
00:12I would call it, Even if I get nothing, I'm still chasing God. If I get nothing from this world,
00:21if I get no applause, no awards, no accolades, I'm still chasing God. And I'm going to tell you why.
00:30Everything you're chasing right now, if it is not God, it is not going to satisfy you.
00:37What I mean by that is, you might get a hold of what you're chasing, and you might enjoy it
00:43for a moment.
00:44But in the end, you're going to look at it and say, that's it? Is that it?
00:52After you've enjoyed it, you'll be like, dang, must be something more to life than this.
00:57Ah, you know how when you've got Christmas presents, you know, after you've played for it for a little while,
01:02you'll be like, I mean, it disappoints after a while.
01:07Are you chasing things that were never designed to satisfy you, that was never designed to fulfill you?
01:16Ah, are you looking for satisfaction in all the wrong places?
01:20Well, we're going to look at a text today, um, coming out of the word of God.
01:25Vanities of vanities, says the preacher.
01:28Vanities of vanities, all is vanity.
01:32Now, this is a declaration by the preacher, Solomon.
01:37Mmm.
01:37He says everything you chase, money, stats, relationship, he sums it all up in one word, vanity.
01:45All is vanity.
01:47He leaves nothing out.
01:49The entire world system that we live in, when it's separated from God, it's completely hollow.
01:57This is a good reminder.
01:59Ah, there's nothing to it.
02:01Oh, it looks good on the outside, but when you examine it and start to experience it, ah, there's nothing
02:07to it.
02:08And, ah, if a man builds his life on vanity, he will spend years chasing what cannot satisfy.
02:18People do that all the time.
02:20Ah, help us today, God.
02:22He will measure his success by things that disappear if you just chase vanity all your life.
02:28If it's going to disappear on you, and you're measuring success by something that's going to, poof, go away.
02:34Ah, help us today, God.
02:36If a man builds his life based on vanity, he will sacrifice eternal things to gain temporal things.
02:44I see this all the time.
02:47Forget the things of God.
02:48I need the things of this world, ah, even by believers.
02:52Ah, help us today.
02:53This world system, that Solomon is telling us, cannot satisfy us with anything lasting.
03:01It won't last.
03:03It's like vapor.
03:04It appears for a little while.
03:06It vanishes away.
03:07Will we truly understand this, what Solomon is telling us today?
03:11We stop chasing validation.
03:13We stop living for appearances.
03:15Ah, we stop trying to keep up with the Joneses.
03:17We stop needing outcomes to turn out a certain way, thinking that that will make us happy.
03:22We have a way of being on a great search, like I like to call it.
03:26I'm searching for something to fill the void.
03:30Something that's going to satisfy me.
03:32And once I get it, then I got to look for something else.
03:34Because you realize, that didn't satisfy me.
03:37That didn't satisfy me.
03:38No matter what you get on the earth, Solomon is trying to save us some time.
03:43Ah, who is Solomon?
03:44Solomon had authority.
03:46The Bible said the preacher.
03:48When we're talking about a preacher, what we're talking about is one who declares truth.
03:52He's trying to call us out of an illusion into reality.
03:56Thank you, Solomon.
03:57I got to get out of the illusion of thinking things on this world will satisfy me.
04:02Solomon was one who experienced great wealth, great pleasure.
04:07He explored great wisdom.
04:08He explored great power.
04:10Everything that people think will satisfy them.
04:14He went down that road.
04:16And that's what the book of Ecclesiastes is about.
04:18He went down that road.
04:19He tells us, I've been down that road that you're thinking about.
04:22And none of those things lead to fulfillment.
04:28Ah, go hard after God.
04:30So you don't be disappointed.
04:31So you don't have to learn by bumping your head to find out, man.
04:35That's it?
04:36Is that all?
04:37Oh, dang it.
04:38I wasted all my time trying to get that.
04:42Have you ever been disgusted after you were through?
04:45Ha, ha, let me, let me.
04:47That's it?
04:49Ha, ha.
04:50Oh, Lord.
04:51It left me more empty than it did fulfilled.
04:54Ah, even if I get nothing from this world, I'm still chasing God.
04:58I'm going to chase Him.
04:59See, God has designed us to want things that last.
05:04I want love that last.
05:06Friendship that lasts.
05:08A hope and joy that lasts.
05:11Only God.
05:13Ah, He's the only thing in this world that lasts.
05:17He matches what we were created for.
05:20Ah, God fits us like a hand in a glove.
05:23I need something to last in my life, Lord.
05:26And you're the only thing that lasts.
05:27Ah, goodness, help us.
05:29Solomon tells us that all is vanity.
05:33Anything you build your identity on in this world will eventually fail you or it will fade away or you're
05:44going to lose it.
05:45It's going to be taken from you.
05:46Everything that we have, our strength, health, happiness, money, joy, whatever that is, it will fail you if we're chasing
05:53it.
05:53When we believe what Solomon is trying to tell us right now, we start to ask ourselves, we stop asking,
06:02what can I build here on earth?
06:04And we start asking, what actually lasts beyond this earth?
06:10Ah, help me, Lord, invest my life into eternal things that last beyond this earth.
06:18So Solomon is speaking to us and he wants us to draw an implication.
06:22He wants us to apply us to a life by thinking that if everything is empty on this earth, then
06:29there's only one thing that matters, one thing at all.
06:33He wants us to redirect our thinking.
06:37Only God is eternal.
06:40Only God satisfies.
06:43And only God is worth going all in after.
06:49Lord, help us to heed this message.
06:52Vanities of vanities, says the preacher.
06:54Vanities of vanities.
06:55All is vanities.
06:57There's a multiplication of vanities out there in this world.
07:01Vanities stack to bone vanities.
07:03Vanities all over the place.
07:04Have you ever just, oh, Lord, help me.
07:06Have you ever had vanity, vein on vein on vein on vein, just worthless stuff stacked on top of each
07:12other?
07:12Lord, help me.
07:13I don't want to have stacks and stacks of vanity, stacks and stacks of emptiness, stacks and stacks of things
07:19without eternal focus.
07:21Help us today to focus on you.
