00:00so elliot wolf was was being asked about uh the whole christian gonzalez situation
00:03and if this is the question i think it is this is a good one uh let's go ahead and
00:07and let this
00:08roll uh jackson this is elliot wolf just about like an hour ago what have you taken from christian
00:15being out there throughout camp practicing with his teammates uh christian gonzalez uh he's he's
00:21been he's been great i mean he he came back yesterday uh and looked like he you know hadn't
00:26missed a beat um he had some productive uh you know one-on-one reps and then he was making
00:30plays
00:30in in the red zone so uh again he's he's a competitor he's talented he's elite and again
00:37hopefully we can get something done there okay that's not the the question i was thinking of
00:42is there the one about like a couple more yes just keep it all jack yeah we'll just keep it
00:45all let's
00:46hear the next one let's let's set a roll to make christian the highest paid corner ever is that
00:49still true a month later yes okay a year from now drake will be eligible to sign a new contract
00:56how much does planning for a new deal for drake impact how you consider a new deal for christian
01:04now uh you know it's it's about a a cash budget and things like that so we're very aware of
01:11the
01:11timing of these things and you know we're cognizant of having a plan for that and working with uh
01:16jonathan and robert thankful for their support that you know they're they're open and willing
01:20for us to be able to sign these great players ted tell me about the cash budget those are words
01:26you
01:26want to hear but at least to me what do you think that's interesting that's interesting that's
01:32interesting answer cash budget and you know you know good call way to way to thank the uh the owners
01:38for for paying for these players um does anybody know what the patriots have been ranked in the
01:45cash spending uh the last 10 years uh i'm gonna guess last that way you phrase it that way dead
01:50last so 10 years cash spending lowest of any team in the nfl does anybody know where they rank right
01:57now this year this year after winning or going to the super bowl last year what do you think they
02:03rank in cash spending any ideas it's not last anymore right it's not last no no it's 30 money it's
02:0920 25 oh 25 they're 25th uh in cash so i mean guys come on it is uh it's this
02:16is fat and what i
02:17that what i have not heard in the last couple times ellie wolf has been talking about this topic was
02:21i haven't heard him say krista gonzalez is under contract because that is kind of a
02:26ooh that's like that's one of those so he's kind of been a he's he's managed to avoid saying that
02:32but there's also i don't know i i mean when he was asked point blank is is uh you know
02:39is he still
02:40going to be the highest paid see to me that and i think you feel differently rich i think if
02:46i'm
02:46christian gonzalez and they're on the record saying that they are going to make him the highest paid
02:52corner i wouldn't i would feel more comfortable going out there and risking and playing because
02:59that to me is going to hold true till the end of the season and it's only going to go
03:03up the more
03:04games he plays i see ted you and i agree or just agree on on certain aspects of it but
03:10i do not agree
03:11that if he gets hurt they're going to offer him the same contract that they would have given him if
03:15he wasn't hurt they would i see they would they would put qualifiers in there something about his
03:20injury there's no possible way let's say he tears an acl they're not going to give him the same deal
03:25they're just not i mean and you know what to be quite honest if you're the team that would be
03:30dumb to give him the same deal you don't know if you're going to get the same player back
03:34and and i think that if you're christian gonzalez you're aware of that but there there was one
03:39question that i thought this might be it jackson can you play that that next one you were just
03:43telling me about let's let it roll is there any concern at all that if he doesn't have a new
03:47contract for the season you'll get something less than the full version of christian whether he's
03:52protecting himself or mentally he's just not fully there is there any concern on the team's end
03:56that if he doesn't have a deal he might be a different type of player no he's a he's a
04:01tremendous competitor he wants to be the best at his position so there's no concerns like that
04:05so you have you're making momentum with those negotiations what does that mean
04:09again i'm not gonna get into the negotiations here today we are working with christian's
04:15representative to try to get something done and that's what we're doing i love that question if
04:21you don't sign him and he goes in without a contract are you going to get the full version
04:24of christian gonzalez and he's like oh no he wants to play hard sure he does but if he gets
04:30a little
04:30sore in a game and feels like you know what maybe i don't want to risk getting injured for this
04:37i might
04:37just sit out and say that ah you know what i got a hamstring thing and i and i can't
04:41play today
04:41that is absolutely something that a player could do now whether christian gonzalez would do it or not i
04:47don't know but it's not dumb and it's a good thing to kind of have hanging out there as leverage
04:52that the player would do that because what you're doing right now is you're pissing off the player
04:56you're pissing off the player by not giving them and i and i once again i do not believe
05:01his agent is going rogue and asking for a zillion dollars more than what the market just said if you
05:07had to ask me it's more about the track record of the patriots being cheap and you just said okay
05:12but
05:12if you don't think he's trying to go a lot more then what is why why is there not a
05:17deal done
05:18because they don't want to give him what he like a little bit more than what the market you think
05:22there are they he just said that they were going to make them the highest he's going to make him
05:27the highest paid cornerback so what do you mean how can they go lower than what the last guy got
05:30because that doesn't mean guaranteed money there's a lot of things that can make that contract
05:34different than witherspoon there's a lot of claimers like uh provisions they could put
05:40inside the contract that take away money if for some reason he gets injured or he doesn't like
05:45play a certain amount of games these are the kind of things that he's pushing what somebody needs to
05:49ask is specifically do you mean you'll make him the highest paid in guarantees like that's but they
05:54would answer that i'm assuming that that to me that that's part of it when they say they're making
06:00them the highest paid is that it's going to be the highest in guarantees too but maybe maybe maybe not
06:04a lot of ways to slice that there is cake and for him to say bring up cash budget that
06:09leads me to
06:09believe exactly what you were saying the last two weeks ted it's about that upfront first two year
06:1459 million that witherspoon got and when elliot wolf says we have a cash budget the timing we're aware of
06:21we're planning it out mention the owners they can't give him 59 plus million or 65 or whatever
06:26he's asking for right now because they need it for drake may next year and that's the interesting
06:30thing is that it that's how it works sometimes timing is everything in life you get paid based on all
06:35these different variables um do you i'm curious what you guys think of do you think variable's
06:40comments after the game the other night saying we lack depth was to kind of send a message to
06:47christian gonzalez i don't think so i've i've heard this do explain why well because because you know
06:53the patriots in the past how they used to negotiate at least when i was playing was they hey to
06:58put a
06:59good team out there we can't you know you know we gotta we gotta we can't pay everybody top dollar
07:03else we wouldn't have any depth we couldn't pay guys uh you know quality backups and so you just
07:08wonder and so they do they i mean that they do that with tom all the time tom if we
07:12sign you to
07:13the biggest deal then we can't put good receivers around you that would be weird for vrabel to say
07:17that though about his defense and his guy he's a former player you know what i mean i agree i
07:22just
07:22have i just think he's pissed at elliot wolf's roster i think it goes back to his drafts and what
07:25he
07:26inherited but wow i mean it's he's he's been here two years his guy stretches in all the meetings
07:31i i think to maybe take shots at elliot the whole pretty much every elliot wolf draftee is gone
07:37well that's what i mean that's the point like you know but okay yeah i just especially the 2024
07:42draft the gerard mayo year it's just after drake there's there's nobody here and he's got to build
07:47a team without that supporting cast i almost feel like him and elliot are more on the same page i
07:51mean elliot elliot's comments at halftime were kind of in line with vrabels i i think they both see it
07:57the same way i think if anything they're they're they're kind of venting towards the lack of spending
08:0225th and cash spending and how about go get some buy some death use that money to go get some
08:08better
08:08players and that's why ted every single time i will believe it's the crafts being cheap and it's not
08:14gonzalez's agent being a maniac because we because of the 25th you're right the numbers speak for
08:20themselves their track record speaks for themselves they are a cheap team until they prove otherwise with
08:27this contract so yeah i mean absolutely i think it's the patriots holding this up and while also
08:32i think the reason that they've been so aggressive in getting a message out that we're going to spend
08:37more money than ever is because they know that everyone knows they're cheap so back it up get the
08:45guy signed put your money into action and actually get him on this get a brand new extension done and
08:52let's take a look at the guaranteed money and then we could go you know what you aren't so cheap
08:56after
08:56all way to go because right now it's just words and the words don't mean anything until you get a
09:00contract signed robert craft all right six one cash budget those are the two words the takeaways of
09:04this media veil uh don't you think i mean exactly what you're saying rich people think they're cheap
09:09and then the this gm brings up cash budget not good makes it even worse it just it just drives
09:14home
09:15what everybody believes and they believe it because there is a track record of the patriots being cheap
09:21i will always believe that's what's holding it up right now until it happens until i see that
09:26contract the patriots are cheap and they are holding up christian gonzalez getting a deal
