00:10We got the entire squad back together again with RJ Choppy back from Michigan.
00:16Sean Shreve, Cowboys insider, Bobby Belt.
00:18And Bob, not much to complain about.
00:21No, this is two games in a row where you feel pretty good about everything.
00:25Now, the only question is, you've never seen them do this in the preseason, like not recently.
00:31They don't play this well, typically.
00:33But then you got to just ask yourself, like, how much does it mean?
00:36We haven't seen it and they haven't won a Super Bowl.
00:38So when we see them perform like this, does that equal up to anything else?
00:41But this is a there are a couple of things that I think you can be really excited about on
00:46both sides of the ball
00:47and things you can extrapolate, even if you can't say that this somehow means they're going to make the playoffs.
00:52Let's begin. Star up for Choppy's Tennessee volunteer, Joe Milton.
00:57I think we're all sitting here this morning saying that the job competition should be over
01:03and that Joe Milton should be your two.
01:06First half, 9 of 13, 179, 13.8 a throw, two touchdowns for a 151.4 rating for Big Joe.
01:17It looked like he kind of figured out a touch.
01:22You know, that was he had two issues, right?
01:25It was it was just there was there was zero and there was a hundred and there was no in
01:29between.
01:30And the other one was, you know, he may have been a little bit slower to pick up reading defenses.
01:37Yeah, some of the pre-snap stuff, some of the things you got to do at the line of scrimmage
01:40just sees it takes a while for a lot of guys to pick up.
01:43And his feel within the pocket.
01:44I mean, on that touchdown call right there to Malik, that was a third and six scramble.
01:49The improvisation, you know, knowing when to get rid of it, just having a feel.
01:53He had a dime that was actually dropped by Koontz on second and 13.
01:58He responded with the 53-yard dime to Mingo to make it 4-0.
02:03He had the 70-yard at a Camden Brown.
02:06That was on third down that eventually led across his body.
02:10He had to scramble.
02:11And eventually led to a draw on a rushing touchdown.
02:16So he did it in a variety of ways.
02:18And like, you know, the pass to Mingo, I mean, he did have to step up in the pocket a
02:23little bit.
02:23And you have to have a little bit of pocket mobility and pocket awareness.
02:27And that's something that he had kind of lacked.
02:29And then the touch.
02:30The touch is what, you know, stood out to me because that was what his bugaboo was in copy.
02:35Everything was high.
02:36Everything was high.
02:37Everything was high last year.
02:39Maybe it's Schottenheimer.
02:40Maybe it's, you know, Clayton.
02:43Maybe it's just him figuring things out.
02:45It's weird to see, like, development around here.
02:48You know, Todd Haley would tell me my first year in Kansas City,
02:51and his dad was a pro personnel guy for Pittsburgh.
02:54He goes, you all need to learn this out here.
02:56Like, the National Football League, much of this is about development.
03:00We do have to make these players better.
03:02We do have to make these players grow.
03:05And once we get them here in this building,
03:07you have to account for the offseason of whether they're going to get better
03:10or whether they're going to get worse.
03:11And I'm just so used to your Trey Lances of the world
03:15or the projects that start off bad who don't necessarily improve.
03:19So it's just kind of weird to go to Oxnard and say,
03:22wow, Joe Milton's been working on something.
03:24Joe Milton has been developing.
03:25Now, maybe none of this translates at all to the regular season.
03:28Knock on wood, and hopefully we don't have to see him.
03:30But props to Joe, props to the developmental people for him improving.
03:35Yeah, because this is the whole lottery ticket purchase that they do with quarterbacks
03:40or other positions where you're like, well, let's just see.
03:42Maybe they get a first-rounder who's busted somewhere else
03:47or a second-rounder like Jonathan Mingo.
03:49You acquire somebody who's had problems and say,
03:52let's see if we can go ahead and develop them a little bit.
03:54And very rarely do they develop.
03:56But occasionally those five numbers that pop up will be yours.
04:00And then it's okay.
04:01This lotto ticket was worth investing.
04:03And you hope that's what Joe Milton's finding right now.
04:05Let's hear from Joe after the game with thoughts on the performance.
04:10Tonight was great.
04:12You know, I was able to go out there and showcase what I got,
04:15what we've been working hard towards this whole camp.
04:18So it was great.
04:19My comfort level was amazing.
04:23Shoot.
04:24Way more comfort than I was last year.
04:26He also, to me, seems like a little bit more grounded and calm in the interview.
04:31Like the interview on TV, I'm expecting goofy backflip Joe Milton.
04:36And he's like giving the professional, generic PR answers,
04:41even though you know that he's just, I think he said his goal for the season was to have fun.
04:45So I'm expecting kind of zany personality Joe Milton.
04:49What is the biggest difference from this preseason to last year?
04:53Man, major difference.
04:56You get to do a lot more.
04:58When I say that, there's a lot more to our offense that we able to do change as the quarterback
05:05position.
05:06So you're able to do all that.
05:07You're able to make sure that your points is right,
05:10making sure the way that you're reading the play is correct.
05:13So just being able to go through that process of a whole year being in this offense until now, it's
05:18great.
05:19Over?
05:20It should be.
05:21I mean, I don't know.
05:24There's obviously something you could do.
05:26He could have like an awful week of practice.
05:27He could pop up and start throwing a bunch of picks and Sam Howell could look really, really good.
05:32But I would say this.
05:34I don't think I mentioned this on the pregame show on Saturday.
05:36I don't think there's a way Joe Milton's not on the roster.
05:40Like the question of do they keep three quarterbacks or not?
05:44I think comes down to where is Joe Milton in the depth chart?
05:46If he's second, they keep two.
05:48If he's third, then they keep three.
05:50Because I don't think they want to just cut Joe Milton or move on from Joe Milton.
05:53I think they want to continue to invest in his upside.
05:56And so depending on where Howell finishes in that, I think depends on if they keep three quarterbacks or not.
06:00Did you give Sam Howell a star down?
06:02Yes, I did.
06:04The interception was obviously not a good one while you're driving into the red zone.
06:07And when you're talking about all the margins matter.
06:10And he was not awful before that.
06:11He was whatever.
06:12He was playing it safe.
06:13He was doing what he needed to do.
06:14But when you then throw an interception after the performance that Joe Milton had and the margins are so thin
06:20when it comes to competition, then it's a bad pick.
06:23Yeah.
06:23And it's it's star up for Joe Milton playing as well as he did.
06:26And it's such a good performance that even without the pick, that's probably a star down to Sam Howell.
06:31Did Schottenheimer end things in the postgame right here on the fan?
06:35Yeah, I mean, you know, again, I think, you know, Joe's put together two really, really good halves.
06:41You know, Sam really made one mistake, you know, down in the red zone, you know, kind of got fooled
06:45on one and turned it over.
06:46That can't happen.
06:47But, you know, this is long from over.
06:49And, you know, going back to Frisco, thankfully, and get a chance to be home and put some more training
06:56camp days in.
06:57But got to give Joe his credit.
07:00He's played really well the last two games.
07:01But we have a lot of confidence in Sam as well.
07:03So I would say thankfully with this heat.
07:06Yeah, they'll be inside.
07:07They'll be fine.

07:25The fact that he had 75 and had two hurdles.
07:29He hurdled somebody.
07:30And as soon as you hurdle somebody, that buys you an extra three weeks in their minds.
07:35And so he had the hurdles, and he was fine.
07:38He slipped on his first run.
07:41He had an issue there.
07:42But from that point on, 75 yards, showed a little bit of wiggle, showed the athleticism with the hurdling and
07:48things like that.
07:49It's fine.
07:50It's not enough for me to throw him a star up.
07:52It's not enough for me to go, yeah, you really put to bed all the concerns about you.
07:57He was fine.
07:57There's nothing wrong with what Jaden did.
08:00I still think Malik Davis played better.

08:03I mean, it feels like he's got a lot of burst through the line.

08:21I mean, Phil Moffa was out, so he could have been fifth, but he was the fourth running back in
08:26practice behind a Bannacanda, Javante Williams, and then Malik Davis.
08:30Moffa had a really nice 15-yard rushing touchdown.

08:38Yeah, I think he feels the competition.
08:40I think he feels the fact that this is a deep room.
08:43I mean, you know, I can't step up to a podium and answer a question about the running back room
08:48without mentioning Izzy.
08:49I mean, and then Phil Moffa has a touchdown, and Malik is what he is, and Jaden, you know, so
08:54these guys got to go.
08:55I mean, you know, and it's been fun for us to watch him, you know, and pass protection.
09:02But, yeah, when you don't practice, it's hard to go in there and perform the way he did, so that's
09:06progression for him and something that he should take a lot of pride in.

09:48Linebacker is similar to running back in the sense that when they get on the field, you still need to
09:53see like 80% of it in game action.
09:56And he got the chance in game action, and he looked really, really good.
10:01Like, it was an immediate impact where you felt, all right, there's somebody on the field who's better than other
10:06people that are out here.
10:07Nick Eatman was like, you know, this happened years ago where you're in the press box and you're like, it's
10:14like the sound of a bat.
10:15Diaz, you heard the sound off his bat with the home run.
10:18And Nick said, that's the way it sounds when Barham hits somebody.
10:21And you're like, oh, that's something a little bit different with 55.
10:24Yeah.
10:25And he's last.
10:27What was it?
10:27It was three years ago whenever Overshown made his debut.
10:30And I remember there was the, they were playing the Jaguars, I think it was, and Tank Bigsby, like, runs
10:35in the hole.
10:36And DeMarvy and Overshown completely stood him up.
10:38And that's a 250-pound, like, bowling ball running back.
10:41And it was one of those things where I was just kind of like, whoa.
10:44And I remember somebody from player personnel was standing over in the dining area and walked over and was, like,
10:51walking by me.
10:52And I was like, that's a big effing man that he just stood up in the hole.
10:55And then it was the next week I think he tore his ACL against Seattle in the preseason and you
10:59lost him for the year.
11:00But Barham, it's that same sort of feel where you see instantly he's dipping blockers.
11:04He's playing with a lot of physicality.
11:06He's in the right position.
11:07He plays really, really aggressively.
11:10He's just, that was a different football player on the field than anybody else on Arizona that was trying to
11:15stop him.
11:16He smiles when he plays and he just frowns when he doesn't.
11:18He smiles when there's no camera on him, apparently, is what we've learned.
11:21As soon as he sees a camera, then he's got to go back into, like, there's a little bit of
11:25performativeness there, I think.
11:27Because he's, like, laughing or chuckling.
11:28When is he going to have to do an interview?
11:31When is he going to have to talk?
11:32He's done one, I think.
11:33He did one, like.
11:34I want to go back to his draft day call, Pepe.
11:38I want to go back to that.
11:39I'll be fascinated to hear it.

11:42Yeah, I don't remember him being super upbeat.
11:46I think he was very, like.
11:47I got to go back and listen to it.
11:48But this does, so the league rule starts week one with you have to talk once a week.
11:54It starts during training camp.
11:55It's just a matter of if the, like, pro football writers complain.
11:59Basically, yeah, if they report you for it or not.
12:01We wanted to see if things would translate from Oxnard.
12:05It did early on.
12:07Back and looking and standing and throwing left.
12:10Receiver fell down.
12:11It's intercepted.
12:1125, 20, 15, Rebel.
12:16He was looking for former Cowboy Simi Fajoko, who fell down.
12:22And Savon Rebel said, oh, I know what to do with this.
12:25And there's the first takeaway of the night.
12:27And a 22-yard return for Rebel.
12:30And Broadus gave Barham an assist on that play because his feet got tangled up with the Cardinals' wideout.
12:36The Rebel flag on the first play gets a pick on the first drive.
12:41And I think there was a little pressure from Malachi Lawrence as he got put back out there to play
12:47with Caleb Downs on the sidelines.
12:48You know what?
12:49It's the best part of that play was not even the actual interceptant.
12:55That's nice.
12:55Receiver fell down.
12:56Whatever.
12:58I was more excited watching him move.
13:01I was like, oh, Rebel's got the ability to change direction now.
13:03Like, the knee's not bugging him that much that he didn't look fluid moving with the ball in his hands.
13:07He looked, that's the most athletic he's looked.
13:09Because I think there's a little bit of a thought.
13:11People forget he was supposed to be a 4-4 guy coming out of, you know, East Carolina.
13:17And when you see him move with the ball in his hands, it's like, oh, that looks like a fluid
13:20athlete who's not, you know, worried about the stability of his knee anymore.
13:24So, actually, it was the return was something that really stood out to me.
