00:00Islam and Gary was okay. It had its moments, but for the most part, it was kind of a long
00:06night.
00:08But a big topic of conversation, obviously it was Gary and his personality and stuff.
00:15And he is a strange dude. Let's just call it out for what it is. He's a strange dude.
00:20Yet, the love fest in the octagon really was like a bridge too far.
00:28We see this a lot. He's not the only one, right? And I get it. You can respect your opponent
00:32and all that.
00:33And I don't mind a little quick embrace after a four-round war or something like that.
00:41Was it Garcia in a Korean zombie or whatever? Certain things, all right, you tip your cap to the other
00:47guy.
00:47But Gary basically hugging him after every time that he hit him and stuff. No killer instinct.
00:54Great fighter, no killer instinct. Now, I'm not saying he would have won anyways, right?
00:59I'm not saying he would have won anyways, but I think he did leave something on the table, man.
01:03There's a difference between respecting your opponent and not being aggressive enough.
01:11And pretty clear, he wasn't aggressive enough.
01:13The respect went too far.
01:15This is still a violent sport, right?
01:17It isn't as violent as it used to be, Tom.
01:19It's more of a sport now, guys.
01:22You know when I say this, like, you don't see, like, real, like, crazy, like, oh, my God, this guy's
01:27face is destroyed once in a while.
01:30It's more of a sport.
01:31People tap out.
01:32They get in and out.
01:33People have told me, like, a professional wrestling is more violent than MMA is actually in the real world.
01:40But without being stated, it is still a violent sport.
01:43And Gary just didn't display the killer instinct that was needed.
01:48Yeah, and honestly, that really was the difference in the fight.
01:51I mean, I thought he had a lot of good opportunities.
01:54He did pretty well with the takedowns.
01:56He did get taken down.
01:57And once he gave up his back, that was really what the problem was for him.
02:01But he was defending the takedowns pretty well for a certain extent.
02:05He got taken down.
02:06He got up a couple times.
02:08Sometimes he was doing actually pretty good work, but he did not have that killer instinct.
02:13And that's kind of been the problem with him.
02:15I mean, he has been more of a counter striker over the course of his career.
02:19But against a guy like Islam, who when you know, when he gets you to the mat and when he
02:24gets a good position,
02:25you're probably stuck there for the next three to five minutes.
02:29And you really have to do something when you're on the feet.
02:32And he had his moments.
02:33And even on the ground, he was landing some shots.
02:36He did have Islam busted up.
02:38I mean, at the end of the fight, if you look at their faces, you know, Islam was the one
02:41that took the more damage.
02:43But, you know, early in that fight, Islam landed that big head kick, which obviously won him that round.
02:49And then there was a couple rounds where it was pretty close.
02:52But Islam ends up getting him to the mat, taking his back, and kind of just riding out the round.
02:58And when you're fighting a guy with that level of wrestling, you have to be as aggressive as you can.
03:03You have to be super aggressive to stand up, take chances.
03:06Like, hey, maybe you do end up getting caught in a sub, and you get subbed.
03:10But you got to take chances.
03:11And Gary kind of just felt like he was happy to be there, and he was happy to go five
03:16rounds,
03:17and he was happy to, you know, put on a halfway decent performance.
03:20I think as he grows, he's still young in the sport.
03:23I think he will kind of pick up that killer instinct a little more.
03:27But, yeah, that was clearly what cost him that fight.
03:30Yeah, he is still only 28 years old.
03:32And as Tom stated, Islam posted a picture of himself, and his face is messed up.
03:37He's got, like, a big-ass, like, serious black eye and stuff.
03:40Like, that's the thing.
03:42Gary can hurt you, but he's too nice.
03:46It's crazy to say.
03:48Like, you're too nice, bro.
03:49Like, this is, as you say, he goes, oh, I'm very proud of what I did.
03:53I took one of the best, maybe the best ever.
03:55I had him right on the brink.
03:56I have nothing to be ashamed about.
03:58No, you have nothing to be ashamed about.
04:00But you could have won.
04:03Right.
04:04You know what I mean?
04:04It's like, no, but, like, if you would have just said, like, I don't know, Tom.
04:08Like, at some point, you know, it's almost like the episode of The Simpsons.
04:13There's an episode of The Simpsons in which Ned Flanders finally snaps.
04:20And, you know, the whole thing was, like, nothing you say to him can upset him.
04:25Right?
04:25And remember they said, all right, let's bring Homer in to insult him over and over.
04:29I find you repulsive.
04:31I had sex with your wife, right?
04:33He read, like, a list of things.
04:35And Ned was like, oh, maybe I ought to be a better husband.
04:38Maybe he kept responding with everything.
04:40And Homer was like, you can't even get this guy mad.
04:43And then finally Ned snapped.
04:46It's almost like that with me with Gary.
