00:24:33And this is a big point of contention right now with Trey Lance and D.J. Uyunglele
00:24:40battling for that backup quarterback position, a position that the Chargers have understood.
00:24:44And Mike McDaniel really said the biggest key when assessing a backup quarterback playing
00:24:49at a high level, you want a guy that if he's got to go in there for four games, you're
00:24:53going
00:24:53to stay afloat.
00:24:54You're not going to lose four games.
00:24:55You could go 2-2, 3-1, or 4-0 with that guy.
00:24:58Absolutely.
00:24:59And so often, if a quarterback starter is hurt in the game, the backup comes in, nine times
00:25:06out of ten, you're probably going to lose that game.
00:25:08But it's the next game and the next one after that until the starter can come back.
00:25:12And that's what they're looking for.
00:25:14For somebody that can just keep them in it.
00:25:18A tricky one for Amar Johnson.

00:45:49really, over the last several seasons through the draft, for free agency.
00:45:53Chargers gave up 60 sacks last year, which was the most in team history,
00:45:56a big reason for that.
00:45:58No Rashawn Slater for the entire year, and then only six games of Joe Walt.
00:46:01They go 5-1 in those six games that he plays,
00:46:04and he was a pro bowler because of the way that he played in those six games.
00:46:08But they felt that they needed to find a way to protect Herbert,
00:46:12who took a league-high 138 hits last year with 129 actually coming on Herbert itself.
00:46:21Meanwhile, Martinez will slide down at the 25-yard line.
00:46:25This is the projected starting unit for the offensive line.
00:46:28Now with Jake Slaughter in at center after Tyler Biotis got injured on Tuesday
00:46:32with a left knee injury, out indefinitely.
00:46:35It'll be Slaughter, the second-round pick rookie out of Florida at center.
00:46:38He was battling for that left guard spot that right now is going to Awashica.
00:46:43But Slater and all two of the best tackles in the game,
00:46:45and Cole Strange coming over after he spent last year in Miami with Mike McDaniel.
00:46:50And the question for Slater is, he hasn't practiced for a while because his knee that he hurt last year
00:46:56has flared up on him, but they're being very cautious, which is wise,
00:47:01because they know what he can do and help him.
