00:00I mean, it's funny because it really does trace the discussion we're having traces back to the one where you
00:05were sitting on and the chairs in the 18th green at the Open Championship having a sort of slightly fun
00:11debate.
00:12But there was some needling happening between Brandel Chambly and Paul McGinley about like, what is the player of the
00:17year supposed to be representative of?
00:19And, you know, I hate to get so far in the world of stats and all these things of like,
00:25I wouldn't be handing Scotty Shuffler the the best, you know,
00:29the player of the year award based on stats alone. But I but I do think in terms of results,
00:33it's what sort of conversations you want to have about how much is a win worth compared to top five
00:40in 12 times and 18 starts.
00:43I mean, that's that is amazing, especially when you consider maybe a quarter or a third of those were weeks
00:50when he showed up and just gave you a stinker on Thursday and was fighting an uphill battle the rest
00:54of the week, you know, early on in the season.
00:55So, I mean, I think it's I think it's it's never been a at least in the past however many
01:01years where Scotty's been the favorite going away.
01:04It's a lot closer because of the caliber of wins.
01:07The other guys who have won majors and won multiple times have.
01:10But I think he's in some ways he's helped by the fact that the major cycle winners.
01:15Yeah, it's Ryan Fox, right?
01:17Ryan Fox and Rory didn't hardly play at all the PGA Tour this year or basically played the minimum amount
01:21of events.
01:22And when Windham got hot kind of midseason with that wind at Byron, right?
01:27And then goes on to win the U.S. Open.
01:29But it's like he's almost helped in that sense.
01:32Totally.
01:33And I think Fitzy's probably has the best case potentially, even though his major season was really poor.
01:42It wasn't, you know, it wasn't anywhere close to what we saw, you know, with his second place and then
01:48the wins that he had kind of in that early middle part of the season.
01:53But even Chris Gotterup, who's, you know, he had pretty big moments winning at Sony Phoenix Open.
01:58John Deere, three wins is a lot.
02:00But like his major season, his best finish was a T-10.
02:04Right.
02:04And when you look at when you look at Scotty Scheffler's, right, like, come on, I know he didn't win,
02:12but he he had two fourth place finishes and he also had a second place at the Masters and his
02:17worst finish was a T-14.
02:19It's it's and then you look at all the runner ups that he had and I and there's a little
02:24bit of like win luck component to all of this.
02:26Right.
02:26Like, sometimes it's hard to win events, like sometimes guys pull away that you don't expect to, you know, just
02:33have that day.
02:33And Scotty kind of finally put, you know, this was his day to go out and close the door.
02:39And I wouldn't say that through the course of the year.
02:44That he had days that, man, he just is like choking on Sundays.
02:47Right.
02:48It just it didn't feel that way in my mind.
02:50It's just like other guys played well.
02:51He played fine, just like not quite good enough.
02:53And I think if if if he had a better scoring average just on his Thursdays through the first quarter
03:00of the year, like what does his season look like with even with how he finished, which is insane to
03:07think about?
03:08Like he was terrible on Thursdays.
