00:01Wawasan Vice President Wan Saiful Wanjian has accused DAP of putting on a show over
00:06its renewed push for equal constituency allocations for all MPs.
00:11In a Facebook post, Wan Saiful said the demand was good in principle but questioned why DAP
00:16had only raised it more than three years into the unity government's term.
00:21Earlier today, DAP Chairman Gobind Singh Dio had urged Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to
00:26provide equal funding to all MPs and make the practice mandatory through legislation.
00:33Gobind welcomed the extra RM1 million for all 222 constituencies but said it did not resolve
00:39the wider issue of equal allocations.
00:42He argued that a law would remove political discretion from constituency funding and protect
00:47voters' rights, regardless of political affiliation.
00:51Wan Saiful claimed DAP was only pushing for legislation now because it feared becoming the
00:55opposition after GE16.
00:58He accused the party of trying to create a safety net so it could continue receiving constituency
01:03funds even if it lost power.
01:06The remarks came a day after DAP gave Anwar a year-end deadline to pass several institutional
01:11reforms after deciding to remain in the unity government.
