00:00A PKR Assemblyman has criticized preacher Ridwan T. Abdullah for questioning Chinese language banners used for the Hungry Ghost Festival
00:08in Ampang.
00:10Syed Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al-Haddad, better known as the rapper Ultimate, said cultural differences should not be used to
00:16fuel racial tension.
00:18He said the festival was part of the Chinese community's traditions and culture, involving remembrance of ancestors, respect for previous
00:25generations, as well as acts of charity and offerings.
00:28Syed Ahmed also noted that the values associated with the tradition included compassion, sincerity and generosity.
00:37Ridwan questioned Chinese language banners at a Taman Kosa's intersection, asking if they complied with national language rules and whether
00:44the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council was monitoring it.
00:48Syed Ahmed stressed that banners should use language suited to their target audience, but comply with local authority rules on
00:54Bahasa Melayu.
00:55He said any non-compliance should simply be corrected rather than turned into a racial issue, adding that he would
01:01discuss the matter with the Municipal Council.
01:04The PKR Ampang Division Chief also urged Ridwan not to use cultural issues to create suspicion between communities, saying Malaysia
01:12should focus on solving problems rather than magnifying differences.
