00:00what's going on so far during the exhibition season on Thursday and Friday,
00:05we'll see what happens in today's games,
00:07but there were some things that are noteworthy that are coming out of these
00:11exhibition games. Most notably,
00:13I liked the way that Fernando Mendoza played and directed the Raider offense.
00:17You know, it's going to be, I think,
00:20a gigantic hit for the Raiders or a gigantic bust for the Raiders.
00:26I still don't know what I'm looking at with Fernando Mendoza watched him against
00:32that Cardinal football team. And I thought he had great command of the huddle.
00:37I thought he was on time. I thought he took a couple of hits in the pocket.
00:41I was pretty impressed with him. Fernando Mendoza's first preseason game,
00:4510 of 16, 97 yards. And as I said,
00:48I thought he had command of the offense and I do believe that you got one of the
00:52better play callers in the NFL with Clint Kubiak.
00:55And I think he's going to be a major factor in the development of this player.
00:59Not only that,
01:00who better to go to than one of the executives that they're with the Raiders.
01:04And that's Tom Brady, how to see the game, how to prep for the game,
01:08how to understand defenses, how to understand how to dissect defenses,
01:13pre-snap reads, all of that.
01:15I'm a gigantic fan of Fernando Mendoza. Funny, you know,
01:20I didn't realize that he was following me on social media and for about three
01:24years, he's been following me on social media and I didn't know he was.
01:28And this is when he was a high school student at Columbus high school down in
01:32South Florida. Hey, Dan, can you do me a favor?
01:35I've been offered a preferred walk-on scholarship by Manny Diaz.
01:39Do you think you could put a word in for me? I never read it. What happens?
01:43He ends up going to Cal.
01:44He ends up performing well there.
01:46And then obviously he ends up going to Indiana and beating my Miami
01:50hurricanes in the national championship game this past season.
01:54And who would have known if I would have been able to see that text message
01:58and that message that was sent to me, we've become better friends now.
02:03And I'm really pulling for him to see what he's going to become in the
02:06national football league.
02:07I really do think that there's great things ahead for him because I think he's
02:11a tremendous leader.
02:12The other stories on the other side, tug of Viola, man,
02:17I'll tell you what, to a tug of Viola has been really an enigma.
02:23Here's a guy that can throw the football.
02:25Here's a guy that understands how to throw the football.
02:28Here's a guy that gets it just did not play well in that exhibition game against
02:33the Denver Broncos.
02:35He even said so after, and when you get that kind of talent on that football team,
02:42to me, I think the Atlanta Falcons are a quarterback away from actually winning the
02:47NFC South.
02:49Michael Penix is not the guy.
02:51He is not.
02:53But I will say that tug of Viola, if given the opportunity, I think can be the guy,
02:59but he's got to play well.
03:01There's just no mistaking it that he has got to turn his career back around again.
03:07Look, he had every opportunity in Miami.
03:09They gave him the contract.
03:11And this has just been a miserable five years for Tua tug of Viola.
03:16Will he turn his career around?
03:19Kevin Stefanski, the new head coach, came over from Cleveland, two-time NFL coach of the
03:23year.
03:24We'll give him that opportunity.
03:26I think if Tua could straighten it out, that football team could go on and win the NFC South.
03:31The New York Jets.
03:34Where do I begin?
03:35So I watched that thing the other day.
03:38Bucks and Jets.
03:40And I'll tell you, that's some of the worst football I've seen in a long time by both
03:46football teams.
03:47Now, I'll give the Buccaneers a pass with the fact that the Bucks didn't play their
03:52starters.
03:52But the Jets, all right, I've said this before.
03:58It's the worst roster.
03:59And I do mean the worst roster in football.
04:05How are they going to move the sticks?
04:09Look, Frank Wright is a dear friend of mine.
04:12He's a former teammate of mine.
04:14I think Frank is going to do great things for Geno Smith.
04:18Geno has an ankle injury, and we'll see what that offense is going to look like this year.
04:23There's a lot of people that are saying that the offense may actually surprise some people
04:27this year and be an offense that's going to move the chains and being able to put points
04:32up on the board.
04:34They've got a great running back.
04:35They've got a wide receiver.
04:37But again, on the defensive side of the football, that's going to be the biggest question mark
04:43along with that offensive line.
04:44The Jets have to go back to the basics.
04:48You need to build a football team from the inside out, not from the outside in.
04:54Because you've got a good running back in Hall, and because you've got a great wide receiver,
04:59that's not going to be a remedy on how you build a championship football team.
05:04Look at what the Philadelphia Eagles do each and every single draft.
05:09They build from inside.
05:11They build in the lines.
05:13Look at how much money they've spent in their offensive line, and look at what they've just
05:18recently done the last two years with Jalen Carter and with Jordan Davis.
05:22They spent over $60 million on two people when it came to fortifying the defensive fronts.
05:30That's got to change in New York.
