00:08hi friends today we're going to crochet a teabag bookmark and it's quick easy and you can even do
00:15it no so it uses very little yarn and makes a fast last-minute gift or craft fair product
00:21absolutely perfect for book lovers and tea lovers let's go over the materials for this project I'm
00:31using medium weight for yarn in white green and brown a 2.75 millimeter crochet hook 6 millimeter
00:39plastic safety eyes a little bit of fiberfill stuffing scissors optionally you can get a yarn
00:46needle and black and pink thread for sewing details we're going to start with some brown yarn for the
00:58tea and to begin we're going to first chain nine so here's my slipknot and now I can chain one
01:09two
01:10three four five six seven eight nine after chaining nine we're going to start working round one and
01:23that's going to begin in the second chain from the hook so going into that second chain here I'm going
01:32to single crochet seven one going into the next chain oops two three four five
02:03six and seven after you single crochet seven we're going to insert three single crochets in the last
02:13chain available so here I'm going to single crochet one go back into that same chain single crochet two
02:27and into that same chain single crochet three so now I have three chains all in that last or three
02:37single
02:37crochets all in that last chain and that brings us to work on the other side of the chain so
02:43we're going
02:44to continue working along here and for round two we're actually going to work around the whole thing so
02:50we're still working in continuous rounds here now we're going to single crochet um six across this side
02:59of the chain that's one oops here's the next one two three four
03:20five five six and then in the very last chain we're going to insert two single crochets
03:34and that is that for the round one as you can see we have this nice little long oval going
03:42on here so
03:43I'll show you how round two looks and I would recommend using a yarn um a scrap yarn or a
03:50stitch marker at
03:51this point to keep track of your rounds so I'm going to add it here right at the end of
03:58round one and for
04:00my first stitch in round two I'm basically going to just secure the little yarn scrap there like so and
04:11it
04:12tells us where the start and end of the round would be so here's my first stitch for round two
04:17again
04:18we're not going to increase or decrease we're just going to add one single crochet on top of each stitch
04:26and that should give you a total of 18 single crochets in the round let's go ahead and meet back
04:37when round
04:38seven is complete here is round seven complete at this point you can go ahead and add plastic safety
04:46eyes I'm using six millimeter eyes and I like to insert them between rounds four and five four stitches
04:55apart so counting from the bottom that's round one two three four and five so right between four and five
05:05here I'm going to pick um a stitch to insert the eye into that seems about right and then move
05:13one two
05:13three four and make sure it is centered in the face
05:26after you attach the eyes it's time to move on to round number eight and here we're going to switch
05:33yarn colors for the top of the teabag I'm going to switch to white and the way I like to
05:40switch colors
05:40is to pull out um the loop for the previous stitch and pull through using the new color so here
05:52I'm going
05:52to pull through some white yarn like so single crochet around
06:22at this point I'm going to fasten off the brown yarn that's no longer needed and if you want to
06:30secure
06:30it really well inside of the piece you can tie it with the starting yarn tail for the white
06:39and we just stuff that inside and for round number nine we're actually going to single crochet across the top
06:48um closing it up so before we do that we can go ahead and add a little bit of stuffing
06:55inside
06:56just a very small amount would be fine you definitely don't want to over stuff your teabag
07:01here otherwise it will not um quite look like one
07:09so remember to keep it a little bit uh uh flat and now let's take away this yarn marker we
07:18no longer
07:18need that now for round number nine we're going to hold round uh eight flat and we're going to work
07:26through the front and back stitches together basically single crocheting them together so I'm going to insert
07:34my hook into the first stitch in the round and at the same time I'm going into the last stitch
07:41in the round
07:42right over here and I'm going to pull through
07:49and single crochet let's do that again so we're going to go into the next stitch
07:56stitch in the front and the next stitch in the back yarn over and make your single crochet
08:05go into the next set of stitches in the front and in the back yarn over pull through single crochet
08:15next pair of stitches
08:25and again working all the way through until you have closed up that round with nine stitches
08:41now that you have finished that we're going to be working in turned rounds now so for round number
08:4810 we're going to make a chain turn the piece we want to turn it so we can work along
08:56that edge
08:57and then we're going to decrease single crochet five and decrease to decrease I'm going to insert
09:05it's basically stitching two single crochets together so insert my hook into the first stitch
09:11pull through a loop go right into that next stitch and over pull up a loop
09:17I have three loops on my hook yarn over and pull through all three then single crochet five so that's
09:27one
09:29two three four and five and we're going to decrease in the last two stitches
09:44like so
09:48let's keep going after that we're going to now chain and turn for round 11 chain
09:57turn and we're going to single crochet across so insert one single crochet in each stitch
10:04there's one
10:08two
10:11three
10:14four
10:16five
10:20six
10:21and seven
10:28all right all right so for round 12 here we're going to chain
10:34turn
10:36decrease
10:37so let's crochet those first two stitches together
10:43then we're going to chain three one two and three and now we are going to um skip three stitches
10:55this next three one two three and decrease in the last two stitches
11:00so i'm going to insert my hook here and make a decrease
11:11and then we're going to make a decrease in the last two stitches
11:11when you do that as you can see from the chain three and skip three you have created a little
11:18hole
11:19um underneath right here
11:23after you finish round 12 you're going to fasten off with a long string
11:28and what you're going to do is use that long string for the string part of the tea bag
11:33so um let's see how long you want it and i am using this as a bookmark so i'm probably
11:41going
11:42to make it a few inches long here and instead of cutting it off right where you want it to
11:47be
11:48lengthwise give yourself um an extra like four or five inches to work with because you're going to
11:55use this tail to tie to the little tag at the end so now um with this amount um i
12:04feel safe with
12:06this longer tail you're going to pull out that tail there and then later we're going to go ahead
12:15and weave it back into the center so let me show you how that looks
12:24you can use a yarn needle if you want but if you are lazy like me um i like to
12:30just use my um
12:37hook here to pull it through
12:45so i'm gonna have it coming out of the center um chain three right here
13:02there and that's that so that's going to be um it for the tea bag portion and for the string
13:11and now we're going to make a little tag and in the end we're gonna tie the string to the
13:17tag
13:22let's make the tag i'm using some green yarn you can use whichever color you want
13:27we're going to start off with a magic ring and in the magic ring you're going to make
13:33a slip knot to begin the starting chains first chain two and then inside the we're going to work
13:43the next uh stitches all inside the magic ring so in the magic ring you're going to insert two half
13:51double crochets that's one and two then make a chain now we're going to repeat a sequence around which is
14:03three half double crochets in a chain repeating that three times total so that's one half double crochet
14:11two half double crochets three half double crochets and a chain now let's keep going second repetition
14:22one half double crochet two half double crochets three half double crochets and a chain last one
14:32one half double crochet two half double crochet two half double crochets three half double crochets
14:38and a chain and that's that for um the crochet part we're going to pull the ring tight
14:48for the magic ring and that will cinch it um tightly here and now we're going to make a slip
14:55stitch to the top
14:57of the starting chain that you made so that's the top of the chain two here
15:06like so after that we're going to fasten off and move in the ends
15:19make sure you pull that center uh tightly here
15:26and at the end um you're going to take your little tea bag here
15:33with the long string and you're going to simply pull it through um attaching it to the corner
15:42either the corner or at the side of the little tag that you made
16:17and tie all the ends fasten them off and weave them in
16:22if you'd like to you can also embroider some details onto your tea bag such as a little smile
16:28and pink cheeks
16:35once you are all done with sewing or attaching the string to the tag
16:40and adding on those finishing details your tea bag bookmark is complete and ready for use
