00:00A 22-year-old law student was fined 500 ringgit by the Sessions Court in Johor Bahru on Friday
00:07after pleading guilty to allowing her bank account to be used as a mule account in an illegal transaction.
00:14Nicole Sulik-Yee admitted to dishonestly assisting a 32-year-old man
00:19to transfer 525 ringgit into her bank account at Taman Nusa'idaman at about 4.31pm on June 13.
00:28She was charged under Section 424 of the Penal Code,
00:32which carries a maximum five-year jail term, a fine or both upon conviction.
00:38National Legal Aid Foundation lawyer Kay Bharati, representing Sue,
00:43appealed for a lighter sentence, telling the court that her client is studying law
00:48at a private college in Pataling, Jaya.
00:51Bharati said Sue is supported by her grandfather as her parents are separated.
00:56Sessions Judge Madiha Zainal fined Sue 500 ringgit in default of one month's jail.
