A 22-year-old woman has pleaded guilty at the Johor Baru Sessions Court to causing the death of one of her newborn baby twins last month.

Nuran Batrisya Jamaludin appeared calm and nodded in understanding as the charge was read out before Judge Mohd Zamir Suhaimee on Wednesday (July 3).

00:01A 22-year-old woman pleaded guilty at the Johor Bahru Sessions Court on Wednesday
00:06to causing the death of one of her newborn twin daughters last month.
00:10Nuran Patricia Jamaludin entered the plea after the charge was read before Judge Mohamed Zamia Suhaimi.
00:15According to the charge sheet, she was accused of causing the death of the baby girl
00:20with the intention of inflicting bodily injury, likely to cause death.
00:25The offence was allegedly committed at the car park area of Block Rajawali,
00:29Project Perumahan Rakyat PPR, Milana Indah, Phase 2, Taman Sutra Utama, Johor Bahru,
00:36between 11 a.m. and 2.30 p.m. on May 20.
00:39She was charged under Section 304, Subsection A, of the Penal Code for Culpable Homicide
00:46Not Amounting to Murder, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 30 years
00:51and a fine upon conviction.
00:54Deputy Public Prosecutor R. Navina, appearing for the prosecution,
00:58did not offer bail.
01:00The unmarried accused, who was unrepresented, appealed for bail,
01:04telling the court that she needed to care for the victim's surviving twin sibling
01:09and was unemployed.
01:11Judge Mohamed Zamir allowed bail of RM20,000 with two local sureties.
