00:09has changed his plea to not guilty, on what was supposed to be his sentencing day.
00:1442-year-old Mohammad Fadwan Abdul Mouain appeared before Judge Rashiha Ghazali at the Shah Alam Sessions Court on Monday,
00:21where charges of physical sexual assault against a 14-year-old victim were read out again following his sudden change
00:26of plea.
00:27The case had previously been scheduled for a Facts of the Case hearing and sentencing on May 22,
00:33after the divorced single father had earlier entered a guilty plea.
00:37His reversal prompted the court to vacate the sentencing and fix July 8 for mention ahead of trial.
00:43The charge is framed under Section 14D of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017,
00:48which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years' imprisonment and caning.
00:52Mohammad Fadwan is a former convict, previously sentenced to 17 years in prison in 2007 for rape, robbery and the
01:00confinement of a woman.
01:02Records also show he had only been released from prison in April last year.
01:06He is currently serving a six-year prison sentence and received three strokes of the cane for,
01:11wrongfully confining and injuring the boy, robbing an Indonesian woman,
01:15impersonating a police officer, stealing a motorcycle and consuming drugs.
