00:02So Jo, we've been hearing from Complainant Jay's ex-girlfriend.
00:06Now Complainant Jay, as we've heard so far in this trial, is a man who is accusing Alan
00:10Jones of kissing him and touching him indecently on several different occasions in 2003 and
00:172004, so some time ago.
00:19Today we have heard more from his ex-girlfriend and she was quizzed about a series of messages
00:26that the pair exchanged in 2024 after she had gone and given a statement to police in
00:32support of Jay when he had made his complaint about Alan Jones and the messages from Jay
00:38said that was something that could change my life for the better and you should feel
00:43very happy and he said once it's all over I promise to look after you.
00:48Now she was asked repeatedly whether she took that to mean financially look after her and
00:53she was asked whether she thought Jay at any point was intending to sue Alan Jones for money
00:58and get money from him because he was in financial difficulty and then give money to her and she
01:05said that she could see how the messages might be construed that way but she said that was
01:10not her intention.
01:11She didn't think Jay ever intended to sue Alan Jones for his money.
01:16There was a bit of argy-bargy in court over a line of questioning when the defence went to
01:21probe this woman's financial status at the time.
01:25The Crown accused the defence of trying to intimidate and besmirch the witness but His Honour Judge
01:31Glenn Walsh allowed the question and the witness maintained that she never intended to take any
01:38money from Mr Jones nor, she said, did Jay.
01:41And Isabel, what's been the evidence from Jay's former sporting coach?
01:46Well the coach has told the court today that he recognised the talent in this young man at
01:53this particular time.
01:55He recognised the importance of Alan Jones' payments to this man.
01:59We've heard previously that Alan Jones was giving this young man $400, $500 then $600 a
02:06week to help with his athletics career.
02:08And this coach said absolutely that this money was very important to him and to his family.
02:15He also talked under cross-examination about the fact that they were very close.
02:20He said he spent a lot of time during his week with this young man, the complainant and he
02:27said in his police statement that he had no cause for concern at the time about Alan Jones'
02:33contact with Jay, he said he never saw anything untoward.
02:37And who's expected to give evidence next?
02:42So tomorrow we are expecting to hear from the next complainant, the second of the six men
02:47who will make allegations against Alan Jones.
02:50This is complainant C, who is a former colleague of Alan Jones'.
02:55So we will hear from him and his first evidence in this trial tomorrow.
