Trump says Secret Service called the shots over covert plane switch

President Donald Trump has addressed reports that he was quietly moved to a different aircraft during a recent trip to Ankara following an alleged Iranian assassination threat.

Speaking to reporters after arriving in Geneva, Ohio, for the Freedom 250 Patriot Games, Trump said the decision was made by the officials responsible for protecting him and that he simply followed their instructions.

“Well, it's only up to the Secret Service. I just follow what they'd like to do,” Trump said.

He explained that both the Secret Service and the military wanted him to use another aircraft, while emphasizing that he was told the alternative plane offered the same level of safety.

“So I go by the Secret Service and the military. They wanted me to go on a different flight, a different plane, equal safety,” Trump said.

“But they wanted me to do it, so I do it. I do what they say.”

Trump also acknowledged that he believed a threat existed but said he did not seek many details.

“I guess there was a threat out there. I didn't really ask too much about it. I get a lot of threats,” he said.

Trump added, “Non consequential presidents don't get threats.”
