Arizona Senator says he is facing a surge in death threats after publicly challenging President Trump over what he called “illegal orders” and warning U.S. troops they are allowed to refuse them under the law. He accused the White House of trying to intimidate him by threatening to recall him to active Navy duty for possible prosecution. The senator said Trump has “crossed the line,” claiming the president’s rhetoric has pushed threats to unprecedented levels. He also called for investigations into reports that a Navy team may have killed survivors after a strike on a suspected drug boat, saying he hopes the allegations are untrue but must be examined by Congress.

00:00I'm trying to silence me in proposing to court-martial me in threatening to kill me
00:15for fighting back when our democracy demands that we must fight back. President Trump has
00:23crossed the line. And this time, it's not going to work. I will not be intimidated by this
00:31president. I am not going to be silenced by this president or the people around him because
00:39I've given too much in service to this country to back down to this guy. Are you concerned
00:46about threats on your life? Have you stepped out of your personal security and, of course,
00:50the security of your wife? That this isn't about me. And it's not about the others in that video.
01:00They're trying to send a message to retired service members, to government employees,
01:08to members of the military, to elected officials, and to all Americans who are thinking about
01:16speaking up. You better keep your mouth shut or else. But for everybody, just starting with you,
01:28just saying who you are. The threats on us have obviously gone up. I'm not going to get into
01:33details about my personal security. We take these threats very seriously. And I take, you know,
01:41the threats from this president seriously. How many times in our country's history have you heard a
01:48president of the United States say that members of the Senate and the House should be hanged and executed?
01:57I mean, I can't think of one.
02:01In fact, you all have not yet conferenced out the defense appropriations bill for the current fiscal year.
02:07There needs to be an investigation. We need to pull some of these members of DOD and the military into the
02:16armed services committees in the House and the Senate. You know, that's what the White House is saying.
02:23I hope what has been reported is not accurate. I have such, I revere members of the United States Navy,
02:32especially Special Operators Navy SEALs. These are the most highly trained, you know, individuals in our military.
02:39I have deep, deep respect for them. So I hope what we are hearing is not accurate.
02:47I will say, though, you know, as somebody who has sunk two ships myself, that folks in the military
02:56need to understand, you know, the law of the sea, the Geneva Conventions, what the law says.
03:04And I'm concerned that if there were, in fact, as reported, you know, survivors clinging to a damaged
03:13vessel, that that could be, you know, over a line. I hope it's not the case. I truly do.
03:23In addition to that, you all have not yet conferenced out the defense appropriations bill for the current fiscal year.
