A suspected gas explosion destroyed a bungalow and injured a man in Newton Longville, near Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, on the morning of Sunday, August 9, 2026.
The blast happened on Cobb Hall Road, leaving debris scattered across the area and sending flames and thick smoke into the air. The injured resident was taken to hospital after suffering serious burns.
Neighbours described the explosion as a terrifying experience, with one resident comparing the destruction to “Armageddon.” Another local said the blast sounded like “World War Three in the street.”
Residents were evacuated from nearby homes while SGN engineers carried out safety checks. As emergency crews worked at the scene, the local community quickly came together to support those displaced.
The Crooked Billet pub became a temporary safe place, providing refreshments, phone charging and assistance to residents unable to return home. Paramedics also treated some people there.
Emergency services praised the community response as residents helped one another through the aftermath.
