00:02Home to only 300 people, Kassilis punches above its weight when it comes to traffic.
00:09Currently it is about 30% heavy vehicles and that is increasing with all the developments
00:16for the Arana res.
00:18But now, new tech to make at least one intersection safer.
00:23What we're doing is deploying radar detectors and stop line detectors.
00:26It will detect vehicles on Ulan Road as they approach the Golden Highway
00:31and it will then trigger some signs, some variable speed signs on the highway itself.
00:36That will force vehicles on the highway to slow down so trucks can turn safely.
00:41Some of our crash data did show that there's been, I think, three crashes there in the last five years
00:47that were serious.
00:49The solar-powered system is being trialled as part of making the roads safer for an influx of heavy vehicles.
00:55We're having a lot more oversized overmass vehicles as well where you're having to pull off the road.
01:02So it's definitely becoming a much more hazardous journey.
01:06This will be of benefit to all traffic.
01:08With so much extra traffic coming through here, the government is investing $128 million
01:14upgrading roads along the route.
01:16But some aren't convinced this will benefit the community.
01:21That kind of legacy improvements in the highway that residents are asking for for the long term
01:27aren't really happening to suit the residents.
01:31They're basically being done to suit the movement of renewable energy transport.
01:36The technology will be trialled for 12 months.
01:39The technology will be trialled for 12 months.
01:43able to eat 20 months.
01:4323 months.
01:44When you do that, then you may be done by 40 , but it's probably before the 15 months which
01:44is about 35 hours.
01:44But this around 100 , so it's not impossible from.
