00:01The Deputy Prime Minister Richard Miles indicated earlier today that he feels that these laws
00:07strike the right balance, but ultimately Labor will need to get the support of either the
00:13Coalition or the Greens to get this legislation through Parliament.
00:17These reforms are essentially aimed at restricting gambling advertising, but many anti-gambling
00:23advocates feel that this legislation doesn't go far enough and it seems some Labor MPs
00:29share these concerns as well.
00:31One of those MPs is the member for Canberra, Alicia Payne.
00:35She's told the ABC that she hopes this legislation can pass with tweaks.
00:40In particular, she wants action taken on inducements, which are used to essentially lure gamblers.
00:47And she's also said she'd be supportive of an opt-in model for gambling advertisements
00:53on digital platforms, essentially allowing viewers to decide if they want to view ads.
00:59Under the current proposal, only an opt-out model would be in place.
01:04Now, the Deputy Prime Minister Richard Miles was pressed earlier today on whether the government
01:09would be willing to make any amendments to this legislation to get it through Parliament.

01:15We have a proposition that we think strikes the right balance.
01:20Now, you know, we always speak to parties across the parliament in order to have legislation
01:28passed.
01:28Now, the Communications Minister, Annika Wells, has previously suggested that she's having
01:33constructive talks with both the Greens and the Coalition on this legislation.
01:38She's appeared to leave the door open to changes to get this bill through the Senate.
01:43But as it stands, both the Greens and the Coalition are opposed to this legislation.
01:48They feel it doesn't go far enough in terms of dealing with inducements and also restricting
01:54ads across television and social media.
01:56We're yet to hear exactly what amendments the Greens and the Coalition want in order to get
02:02their support to get this bill through the parliament.
