00:11I think both B and I wanted to talk with you after the news yesterday
00:17that the commanders are bringing in Stefan Diggs.
00:19I'm curious kind of what your initial reaction was.
00:23You know what?
00:24I was kind of caught off guard with it, but at the same time, man,
00:29I'm, you know, I'm ecstatic for the team, just for the offense, you know,
00:34in general, just knowing when you can get another threat like that
00:37and weapon to add to what we have already,
00:41to what I thought was a pretty good little group of guys out there
00:46when it comes to the receivers, the running backs, and the tight ends, man.
00:49You add another weapon, man.
00:51You know, all that could do is, you know, put us in fair contentions
00:56of being one of those kind of, you know, prominent offenses this year.
01:00What do you think he can bring to this team, Tanner?
01:03I mean, 12 years now, but the thing about him, he was an outside receiver
01:08at one point, he started to play inside last year
01:11with only 55% of the plays coming off an injury,
01:13still has 85 recessions for over 1,000 yards.
01:17Yeah, I mean consistency.
01:19I think, you know, that's one of the things that stands out to me
01:22when I look back at some of the things that he did in New England,
01:26the one thing that I saw from that quarterback, he trusted him a lot.
01:30He was good, you know, critical down situation, man.
01:34One-on-one coverage, he went to him.
01:35And when you have a guy, when you have a veteran
01:38that can play the game on that level, man,
01:40that's always great for a young quarterback, for any quarterback,
01:44but especially for young quarterbacks,
01:46that you know you have a guy out there that you can trust in
01:49and in doubt, I'm throwing the ball to him.
01:50I think when you look at J.D. the last two years,
01:55the one thing he knew, he was going to our tight end
01:58and he was going to Terry.
01:59Those two guys he trusted, you know what I mean?
02:01And so now you add another weapon like that,
02:04a veteran that can go out there.
02:06And, you know, this guy, Diggs is hungry, man.
02:09I mean, that's one of the things I see from this game from day one.
02:12I don't know what chip he came into the league with,
02:14but he's been playing like that from day one.
02:16Like, he just, he plays with a different kind of fire.
02:18And, you know, you want, you want that, man.
02:22You want a guy that can go out there and contribute
02:24and that you can always count on.
02:26And that's what I'm happy for.
02:27But I think when, you know, we get caught up into how much Terry has carried
02:31for that wide receiver room for so many years,
02:34and last year we saw it early, like, damn,
02:37what it feel like not to have him out there.
02:39And although we had Debo out there making play after play for us
02:43and Debo did a heck of a job of filling in and just being somebody
02:47that we can lean on, but it just wasn't like, you know,
02:50what we got from when Terry's healthy and he's out there.
02:54So to add to that, to have a Terry already out the gate, you know,
02:58looking strong, looking good in camp,
03:01and then to add a guy or a weapon like, you know, Stephon Diggs.
03:05And like you say, you know, we went out there and got Chig at the tight end,
03:07and was going to be a great threat.
03:09And you go out there and look at some of those past catching running backs
03:11that we have.
03:12Man, you just add to Arsenal, man.
03:14We're building something serious, man.
03:16And I'm loving it just for the simple fact of just knowing that, you know,
03:20it tells me we're turning in that direction
03:22and not asking so much from J.D. 5, you know what I mean?
03:26And that's what I would love because I feel like he's uber-talented,
03:29but at times we put things on his back or things on his legs,
03:34and you don't want to see that time and time again from your quarterback.
03:37So now we can rest assured that you got weapons on top of weapons, man,
03:41and a guy like Diggs.
03:42You know, we went through, J.P. was going through some stats from 2019
03:46up until now, and most years the number two receiver on the team
03:51was the tight end or the running back.
03:53Stephon Diggs gives them an opportunity where that could be that receiver,
03:58but don't you think he also, they opened it up for some guys,
04:01like when you got guys, like those two guys, Terry and Stephon,
04:05are going to need to have some attention.
04:08Chegg is going to get a lot of space to work with.
04:11Yeah, I mean, first of all, you can't cover both of those guys.
04:14So whether you double Terry or Diggs, somebody's going to be open regardless.
04:24And I'm very rarely seeing two top receivers or two receivers
04:29or anybody's team getting blanketed.
04:32So either or, you pick your poison, somebody's going to be open.
04:35But just to answer your question, you know, yeah, of course,
04:39Chegg would benefit tremendously from both of those guys out there.
04:42So we've already seen he's going to benefit alone, you know,
04:45with just Terry being out there and the other guys.
04:47Because like I say, don't get me wrong, man.
04:49You know, I understand, you know, everybody's high up on what, you know,
04:53Stephon Diggs can do for us, you know.
04:57But I also still believe in a lot of those guys that we have out there
05:00that's going to be fighting every day with Stephon to really, you know,
05:04make this team.
05:05There's so many talented wide receivers that we have on this team
05:08that doesn't have the name or the resume of a Stephon Diggs,
05:13but that can be great contributors to us.
05:15So it's going to be a lot of guys benefit from both of those guys.
05:18What I appreciate the most by is just seeing Terry finally have somebody
05:22opposite of him that can really, you know,
05:25open up things for him too at times.
05:27You know what I mean?
05:28Like, you know, Terry's been that guy once he's going to feel
05:31courage is rolling to him.
05:32You know, he's been doing it year after year after year after year.
05:35And last year was the first year where we had to kind of like, you know,
05:39not see that because of him, you know,
05:41coming in late and being dealing with injuries.
05:42So to start things off out the gate,
05:45having that kind of talent on the side of him,
05:48I'm interested to see what teams, who they lean to the most,
05:52who they're scared of the most.
05:55Are they going to be more worried about Terry
05:56or are they going to be, you know, making sure that Stephon don't get off?

06:10Tana, a couple of things I'm really curious about
06:12that I think you can speak to really well.
06:15You've mentioned a couple of times that you think Diggs is going to help
06:19the receivers that are here not named Terry McLaurin.
06:21And I'm with you, man.
06:23And I think we're going to see a lot of receivers play in every game,
06:26watching this Blau offense for a while now.
06:28There's so much motion, so many different formations.
06:31Who are some of the other receivers that have really caught your eye
06:34now that we've been in camp, you know, a week plus?
06:38Well, I'm high on Burks.
06:39I just feel like you can never take for granted what he brings to the table
06:45with his size, with his catch radius, with just the ability to run with that size
06:52and all that stuff and all the things he does well in the red zone area.
06:55Man, that's always great to have a target that you can throw the ball up to
06:59and just he can come down with it, man.
07:00So I'm high on him.
07:01I think, though, you can't take for granted how Luke has looked this year.
07:06I think from the couple of times I peaked at Luke, it just seems something
07:10different in his bounce.
07:12And that's what happens when you're developing.
07:14You're finally getting into a rhythm of, you know, owning what you're doing.
07:20You know, and you've got to think, you guys, he was a raw talent,
07:23played quarterback in college.
07:24And to actually see him in year three, and like I always say, I jokingly say,
07:29that's Ed's son.
07:30You know, put some respect on Ed McCaffrey's name.
07:32You know what I'm saying?
07:33I mean, you know, the apple didn't fall that far from the tree.
07:36So I'm looking forward to seeing what more he can bring because last year I think
07:40he was in his bag with those kicking turns.
07:42And when you're starting to feel yourself in this game, D knows how this is, man.
07:47It's hard to slow you down.
07:48And that's what I think he was on that trajectory last year before he got hurt.
07:52He was feeling himself.
07:53He was doing so well kick return-wise.
07:55It was rolling over.
07:56It was, you know, going over into his wide receiver game.
07:59And that's when you saw him making catch after catch and touchdown after touchdown.
08:02So, you know, he's another guy that raised my eyebrows.
08:04But I think if you think about it, if you paid attention to it,
08:09it's been a receiver, a new receiver each day that has really, like,
08:13rose to the challenge and showed up before this whole big news came about.
08:18So all those guys, you know, have potential.
08:21Vance Jefferson is somebody that you can always count on.
08:24I think it's just something about him, man, that I've always liked.
08:27You know, I think he has a little tear in him, too.
08:29Quiet dude, but he's going to do his job.
08:31And he's a savvy veteran, man.
08:33He's learned from his dad.
08:35He's a son of a coach and an ex-former, you know, NFL wide receiver.
08:41So when you have that, you know, legacy, you know, that pedigree, all that, you know, combined,
08:46you can't help but get, you know, raw talent out of a guy like that.
08:51And that's what he shows.
08:53But then also the young kid, man, A-Dub.
08:56Yeah.
08:56I think A-Dub has showed why we're so high on him when it comes to how he runs routes
09:00and how smooth he is.
09:02I just like how smooth he is and how he just knows.
09:05You know, you think a lot of guys like A-Dub coming out of college now, man,
09:08these guys are ready to come in and make an impact because there's so much football being played,
09:12you know, on the high school level with the seven-on-seven.
09:16So half of those kids that's in college are more than seasoned because most of them,
09:21especially when they play field positions, they're playing football almost year-round.
09:25So I'm not surprised by him, but I just know, you know, practice is one thing.
09:29You got to see it there in the game.
09:30You know, Dave, he was talking about him yesterday saying how he'll do those little head nods,
09:35things that you did.
09:36You know, what is it about those different little things you utilize to be able to help you run routes
09:42better than the guys?
09:43Some guys just do everything everybody else do, but you had those little subtleties
09:47that kind of threw people off.
09:50Yeah, it's one of those things that you don't even know you're doing it.
09:53It just comes with what you do and how you're setting things up.
09:57I think one of the things that I took full advantage of, when I was in college,
10:00man, I had a hell of a coach, man, Curtis Johnson.
10:04We called him CJ.
10:05He's right now in the offensive coordinator at Southern with Marshall Fox.
10:09Marshall Fox is the head coach out there, and CJ is the offensive coordinator.
10:13CJ coached Marshall Fox back when Marshall Fox was at San Diego State,
10:17and then he coached us at UM, and CJ's been around.
10:20He also won a championship in New Orleans in 2005.
10:27They won a two-bowl or something like that.
10:29That sounds about right.
10:29So, yeah, CJ's been around, man.
10:32He's a hell of a wide receiver coach, one of the hardest guys that I've ever been coached
10:37by outside of my high school coach, Coach Walt Favre.
10:40And CJ used to teach us so many things about the stems and the different nuances of how
10:46to get up on guys' toes and how to use your leverage.
10:49And so, when you're doing some of those things, you don't even know that, you know,
10:54especially by myself.
10:56It's almost like I played DB so much growing up, I remember how it was when a guy gave me
11:01something that I had to go with.
11:03Like, we're almost trying to mirror things that the wide receivers are doing.
11:06So, as a receiver, I'm in my head thinking like, well, if he's trying to mirror me,
11:12if I give him this nod, he's going to bite.
11:14He's going to fall for the cheese.
11:15You know what I mean?
11:16So, that's something that you're not even thinking about, but you're thinking about it
11:20and you do it and then it gets to the point to where, you know, you get some, you know,
11:25you kind of get lucky with it and say, okay, I can't even say lucky with it.
11:29You have success with it.
11:31And you say, all right, man, this worked last time, so let me see if I can implement this
11:35or integrate this into the next route.
11:37And that's what happens.
11:38You just keep adding, adding, adding.
11:40And that's one of the things about playing that position.
11:42I think it never gets old, but it don't matter how old you is in the game, man,
11:46you can always find something new in your stem and the leverage of the route
11:50and different things of that, you know, nature that you can, you know, find an edge.

11:58Tana, I had one more for you that I think you can speak to from, like,
12:01a particular point of expertise.
12:04Playing receiver in the NFL requires a certain level of confidence,
12:07if not outright arrogance.
12:08You did it at a high level for a long time, always kept your composure,
12:12over 10,000 career receiving yards.
12:15You've been in rooms where you have come in and all of a sudden you're the top dog
12:20and everybody has to react to you.
12:22You've been in rooms where other guys have come in.
12:24What is it like for this receiver room to have Diggs come in at this stage of camp?
12:34To me, it's to each his own.
12:37I don't, I think one of the things about being in the room that's well-coached,
12:41I think every man is going to embrace, you know,
12:44another guy that can come out and help this core.
12:47One of the things I know about guys who share their self,
12:50and I'm hoping that mostly everybody in that room are that,
12:54you don't really care about the guy who's coming in
12:57or the competition that's at it.
12:59You just say, you know what, I got to,
13:01whether if you're on that level with that guy or not,
13:04then he's going to make everybody else, you know, step up and raise the bar.
13:09You know, he raises the bar.
13:10That's what I look at.
13:11When you got a guy like Terry, Diggs is going to respect his body of work,
13:16and Terry is going to respect his body of work.
13:18I've always saw those guys, you know, play against each other
13:21and how much love they have for each other.
13:22So I know that's going to be one of those match-made in heaven things.
13:25But when you got younger guys who's out there fighting and clawing
13:29and doing all they can to make the team,
13:31I think they're going to, he raises the bar for these guys to come
13:34and make sure that they are willing to arrive to the challenge.
13:40And it's good.
13:41It's good for the whole team.
13:42It's good for the offensive role.
13:44I think all these guys are going to learn a lot.
13:47They've already been learning a lot from Vance and from Terry
13:50and from all the other guys.
13:51But they're going to learn a tremendous amount more of what it takes
13:55to play at this position,
13:57what it takes to play at the level that Diggs has shown for so long,
14:00and on the other side of seeing Terry do what he's doing.
14:04And so that's why I say I'm looking forward to seeing who does come out of this room
14:07and who stays on the team,
14:09because you're going to see a lot of wide receivers going out there
14:12and trying to not make no mistakes.
14:14I mean, I'm pretty sure they weren't going to make a lot of mistakes
14:17just knowing who they have as a coach.
14:18I think the world of Bobby Ingram, I think that's why our core has been looking
14:23as sharp as they've been looking the last few years with all these guys.
14:26You know, it don't matter if Terry was out there or not.
14:28I think Bobby has done a tremendous job of coaching these guys
14:31and having them ready for each and every game day.
14:34But I truly believe Diggs is setting up.
14:37He's going to make things get a little spicier in that room
14:41just knowing his presence alone.
14:42And like I said before, he's a fiery guy.
14:44You know what I mean?
14:45So you the rest of sure, man, he's going to get under somebody's skin
14:48and let them know, like, hey, we ain't taking that.
14:50We're going to do this.
14:52We're going to do X, Y, and Z.
14:53And I can't wait to see it.
14:54Oh, yeah.
