Transcript
00:00at raspberry falls and the beautiful golf course out here for santana moss's charity golf outing
00:0689 ways to give they do an outstanding event every single year we've been out here before
00:11and it was a thrill to get invited out here today to broadcast a lot of dignitaries celebrities
00:16former redskins greats and the man that everybody comes out to uh help and to honor with uh you know
00:23the presence of some of your past teammates yeah santana moss joins us now i was just telling you
00:27you should be very proud you got a good staff and they work hard you guys put together quite an
00:31event
00:31yeah man you know i was telling you i can't take no credit for it uh but it's always great
00:36just to
00:37see the people that you know do show up and show out for me because that just shows you how
00:41much
00:41you mean to them and um but carmen you know my manager she does a great job just like you
00:46was
00:46telling me she reached out to you guys and she's all over town telling people hey we got a event
00:51i would need you to come out and you know we've been doing this since i believe 2018 this year
00:58will be the first um um annual um bowling tournament it's gonna be on my birthday weekend so
01:05you have another one that we're going to be starting to do bowling is a little something that i think
01:10we
01:10all can go out there and say you know even on our worst day we're still better than what we
01:14would look
01:14like on the golf course bowling's less intimidating bingo that part so uh put those bumpers up give me a
01:19couple hundred pins yeah let's do it i remember growing up when i was a kid man like you know
01:24i
01:24grew up in my grandmother's house and it was so many kids so many people in our house we did
01:28different
01:28things to get out of the house so we skate and we bowed all the time and and i became
01:32a pretty good
01:32bowler at a young age so i've been trying to do this for so long i got a guy on
01:37board that uh wanted
01:38to put together for me so i'm looking forward to that but getting back to this man i'm i'm just
01:43blessed
01:43man to have all these people that support me and it's for a great cause like i said uh one
01:47of the
01:48things that we do uh for the for them for the many years that we've been having a foundation
01:52and working together um it's never been about you know for one initial thing i never said hey i'm
01:59raising money to to support this cause or support that cause this year is my first year that i told
02:05carmen i want to support a cause i want to support uh no kids hungry and i believe my mom
02:10was a food
02:11service manager and she always talked to me about when the kids come to her school that that she was
02:16a
02:16manager over she made sure no matter if they had free lunch or they're paying for their lunch
02:21everybody ate and it's always been something near and dear to me that you know what i want to make
02:26sure because it's so many kids can't get the proper education can't you know concentrate in
02:31school can't you know go home with so much you know things on their mind and mixed feelings
02:35because they're hungry yeah and so that's one of the causes that i want to uh you know kind of
02:39start you know contributing to so this is going to be my first year you know reaching out and
02:43finding a school that we can support you know um personally or you know to the foundation yourself
02:48that's very cool so i know you're modest about it you say oh your manager does everything if i held
02:53a
02:53golf tournament like seven people would come you know what i mean like santana moss is doing it so
02:57it's like of course i'm gonna drop what i'm doing i'm gonna come for you what does that mean just
03:00because you know you're there's super bowl winners here there's legends here you're you're in their
03:04company you know does that make sense like you belong there of course santana is part of that group
03:08what does that mean well it means a lot man you know i don't take nothing for granted when it
03:12comes to
03:13just people that appreciate you you know one of the things i've always tried to be is a good person
03:17and i think you know i carry that more than being a good football player you know i'm not i'm
03:21going to
03:21be a person that when you see me i'm not looking at you as oh um you know this is
03:25danny or this is you
03:27know grant i mean no we all are human you know i mean what's up fellas how y'all doing
03:30you know i'm
03:31gonna greet you like i want to be greeted i'm gonna treat you like i want to be treated so
03:34i never put my
03:35status over anybody and i think that's some of the things that always kind of show up to me when
03:40it
03:40comes to the people because they're able to feel like themselves and appreciate it when they are my
03:45presence knowing that i'm not sitting over here towering and using my uh i guess you know this
03:49persona of me being this great football player to kind of you know make them feel less of
03:54730 plus catches 10 000 plus yards almost 70 career touchdowns santana moss joining us from his
04:01charity event out here in leesburg on grant and danny ten a big week for commanders fans no doubt
04:07with the re-release of the unis they're throwing it back to the jerseys you were wearing hey they
04:12look like the redskins again what'd you make of the new release it's always funny to kind of like
04:17see how the fans react to something that's new but not new right and so i was pleased because one
04:24of the things that this uh i guess you can say this uh new regime has has done from day
04:29one and say
04:29hey we have to bring back the people that make us who we are you know those championship was won
04:34because of this fan base a lot of the chosen championships also was won because of the players
04:38but the fan base this fan base that supported them at rfk and saluted and and and you know always
04:45showed up when it was time for those guys to go out there and do their things man that's what
04:49we
04:49want to get back first and i see each and every day this team is focusing on those fans that's
04:55why
04:56you see you know sold out stadiums now at northwest that's why you see so many people can't wait to
05:01see
05:01that stadium go up back in dc we they're they're making sure that this this fan base know that hey
05:07we're doing this for you guys and we're nothing as players without them so um you know i was i
05:12think
05:13it's hats off to those guys josh and company man just knowing that they're saying hey we have to stay
05:17true to who we are i understand they took our name away from us but you know you can't take
05:22our color and
05:22that's one of the things that i'm most pleased with just seeing us going back to those you know those
05:27those those uniforms that that i know you know i mean that that i i was able to go out
05:32there and
05:33put up big numbers in what about the uniform you didn't wear the new black uniform they call it the
05:37hail razor what do you think like friends say man we was born too soon man i would have been
05:43hey i
05:44wasn't a hail razor but i could be one you know i'm a gemini we've got two sides and i
05:48think when i play
05:49on that field that's what i would tap into all the time would tap into that other me you know
05:53that guy
05:53that between those white lines he's nothing like the guy outside those white lines he's going to go
05:58at your neck i don't have to say nothing about it i don't have to boast about it you just
06:02know
06:02every play i'm coming and and that's one of the things about our game because you look at guys
06:07outside those uniforms you say to yourself like man that was a guy going out there doing that to this
06:12person but this guy now he could go put on a business suit and be somebody totally different
06:16on that football field you have to tap into somebody that's sometimes unreal you know uh i mean you have
06:22to make them up in your mind but at the same time as a player it's real it's legit because
06:27the plays
06:27he's making the touchdowns he's making the catches he's grabbing that's legit that's real and the guys
06:32who trying to stop that they understand it that's santana moss for grant and danny here 1067 the fan
06:37so you mentioned the the new rfk the new going back to dc that wasn't part of your playing days
06:43but
06:44you're but you're obviously you're so aware you're so keenly aware of this organization's history
06:47what does it mean from your perspective for them to go back there even though that wasn't
06:51something that you got to do just i'm just curious to someone that got that played a little bit
06:55later yeah i mean you know i came here and was fed ex to me and and that's all i
06:59knew but as a kid
07:00watching you know i was a 49er fan um and when i heard of the washington redskins in those days
07:07it was that stadium where everybody got in that one area and they rocked and it was the championships
07:13that was being won there they was coming from that stadium coming from that fan base so
07:18when i got here you know not knowing that oh it is a difference i just feel like just like
07:24in miami
07:24when you take the orange bowl away from us you know it's so much rich history right there why you
07:31know i mean this is where we was able to build the base of who we are the foundation of
07:35who we are as
07:36a team you know and so to see that so much of the years that i played and the years
07:42after that now that
07:43covering this team it's always felt like it was something missing to me i'm just saying for myself
07:47it was always felt like something was missing i think that that's what's missing you know us being
07:53there us you know having some of that rich history lost or just sitting over there and it was itching
07:59for us to come back so i'm pleased and so you know ready to see us go out there and
08:03and be able to take
08:04on that tan i know you do a little work with the team i don't know how deep you're diving
08:09into the
08:09nfl draft i'm talking to logan every day this guy's got a big board now it's like 200 he's
08:14ridiculous with it too he is like upset scientist with it we will be texting that night and he'd be
08:20like hey look at this guy i'll be like i'm sleep why are you still what are you doing man
08:23i'm not
08:25even joking i'm like directional he's the best man i love it though it's wild but that said there
08:29is a legitimate chance washington does draft a receiver at number seven yeah and maybe it's
08:33carnell tate of ohio state or makai lemon of usc i'm just curious to get your thoughts you were
08:37drafted in round one yeah it's been a long time you were not drafted by washington by the jets but
08:42they've not really done a lot of that i mean it's been a handful of times in their history
08:47it's a dependent position it's hard to prove your worth right away a lot of times those guys have a
08:51tough transition your thoughts if they do go wide out that early well you know i won't i won't care
08:56i
08:56think the best player that's available for us uh we're sitting in a good seat um we're not we're not
09:02coming into this draft saying we need a guy to come in right now and play to me you know
09:08i mean
09:08i feel like some of the things that we did free agency went out there and got a uh a
09:13slew of guys
09:13that can go out there and produce for us right now i mean a a a huge upload of talent
09:19that that was
09:20needed especially defensively and honestly you know if we do decide to go offense and whether it's
09:26running back or receiver man i would be pleased because you got to think about jayden you got to think
09:30about his future you got to think about uh that first season when he was able to get that
09:35receiver core of just bodies and they was able to go out there and produce you know that committee
09:41of receivers was able to say okay it could be terry and the committee and now it seemed like we
09:46got
09:47the army back we have you know jefferson we have a lot of guys over there that you can say
09:51luke is still
09:52here you know you have lane that could be another committee group of committee you know that can be that
09:57number two but with that being said if you can really go out there and grab a guy that could
10:02come in and grow with jayden and be that guy or he can either be two now and be primary
10:06later because
10:07not knowing what's going to happen with terry in the future knowing that he's a little older i mean
10:11i'll be pleased so if it's a guy like carnell uh tate that lands with us i won't i won't
10:17i won't be
10:18uh dissatisfied i think he's a tremendous receiver people look at speed because of the 40 and and and like
10:23try to compare that all the time when you when you turn that film on with this guy dynamic wide
10:28receiver uh great catch radius uh explosive last year you can think about a guy jeremiah smith
10:34uh florida kid grew up in my neighborhood really yes where is he from miami gardens miami gardens
10:40he's a bad dude and he's gonna be like that he's gonna go 1-1 next year they double teamed
10:44him last
10:45year and tate got off and at times in games he was like all right let's go over there and
10:49stick
10:49him and he's going to shine so i would love to see a guy like that if we you know
10:53stretch that
10:54so danie and i were talking about this earlier you kind of made this point i just want to bounce
10:58this
10:58off you danie and i were talking about how everybody brings up the point that jayden daniels maybe does
11:06not need star weapons because he's so good yeah it doesn't have to be that you have to ask him
11:11though
11:12to carry everything like just because he has that ability which might be true doesn't mean you have to
11:18make it harder for him you're allowed to still give him really good weapons yeah like why because
11:22you have a great quarterback do we go ah he'll figure it out he did it in 24 why don't
11:26we give
11:26him the best weapons possible i'm i'm 100 with you i think last last year proved to me that you
11:32need
11:32some time to you know take a little take a little off him you know and and uh just seeing
11:37what he did
11:37last year alone and you know not being in his best health you know all those guys you know we
11:44had a
11:44we had a the whole team was going down left and right we got the week um i'm one of
11:49those guys um
11:50i would love to see him have more weapons so he won't have to do more so we don't have
11:54to ask that
11:55much of him you know i don't want to see the jayden that has to tap into saying okay let's
12:00be hero
12:00let's play hero ball i want to see jayden that's going to drop back and you put him in situations
12:04where the guys are so dynamic around him that the focus is not always on him you have to worry
12:09about
12:10these other guys so i would love to see uh a few few guys come in here and take the
12:14pressure off
12:14yeah eventually when he's making 100 million a year or something like that maybe you have to make a
12:18couple tough choices you're not there yet what about this santana i've actually beat this drum a little
12:22bit more maybe than i should i'm kind of aware that i've gone a little bit maybe overboard on it
12:27but
12:27go back to the early 2000s if you were a miami receiver coming out there's a pretty good track
12:32record there with santana moss and reggie wayne and andre johnson and uh you can go up and down the
12:37list
12:37of the ballers that were coming through there it was wide receiver you yeah i think that's ohio
12:41state now yeah the track record every garrett wilson and jsn terry mccorn who was the fourth option
12:46who's a who's a badass there's something about that that matters a lot more to me where i see i've
12:51seen
12:51these guys not have the the 1800 yards in college and walk in and be pretty good pros because of
12:56the
12:57program that they're in is there something to that for you um well i always thought ohio state was
13:01quarter i mean a wide receiver you you know yeah think about it joey galloway terry glenn uh with the
13:06other kid name was real big uh the big guy david boston david boston i mean david boston was a
13:12guy
13:12when i was in high school i was watching him his his freshman year and i was in awe like
13:17oh this guy
13:17got a chance to play as a freshman he was enormous and then fast forward i get in college and
13:22i play as
13:22a freshman as a walk-on freshman so you know i feel like ohio state always held that you know
13:28i think
13:28they was top notch when it came to being wide receiver you other other uh colleges like you know
13:34florida gators and miami kind of fell in line florida state we started having some of those
13:39talents too but uh when i'm looking at those guys now man i mean i think they're leading you know
13:43they're leading miami's going to be one of those teams that's get back into the thick of things
13:47because mario's there he is a great recruiter um he remind me of bush davis when it comes to recruiting
13:53he gets the best of the best and all we needed to do was taste the water a little bit
13:57last year
13:57and we did just that but um did you go to the national title game i didn't i was down
14:02there for the
14:02festivities and then i came back up here and watched the game i'm a i'm superstitious man i
14:07haven't been to a game in years and the last really last game i went to they lost and they
14:11was they
14:12was beating the team and i was like oh it's my first game that they win and i'm here and
14:17i walk
14:17out early it was georgia tech at home it was two years ago i think in 2024 and mario instead
14:22of
14:23kneeling he ran the ball and we fumbled it you were at that i was at that game oh my
14:27god that was bro
14:27i would have fired him that day he's a great coach thank goodness they didn't but can you imagine
14:32that was the worst coaching ever being that they lost that one i said i must be juju i gotta
14:37i gotta
14:38stay away so i stayed away man and was hoping that i can watch them win a natty but um
14:42fred smoot came
14:43to dc prime and gave me juju he watched the game with me and he he was hating on miami
14:48the whole night
14:49well tana what a day i mean you guys did a great job appreciate you uh happy to be a
14:54small part of it
14:55as a radio station thanks for having us out no doubt man thank you guys for showing up
14:5889 ways to give check it out see how you can make an impact from afar really quality charity
