00:00The Democratic Party's progressive wing just scored its biggest victory of the midterm election cycle.
00:05Dr. Abdul El-Sayed won Michigan's hotly contested Democratic Senate primary,
00:10edging out moderate Congresswoman Haley Stevens in what turned out to be a much closer race than
00:15many expected. El-Sayed declared victory by telling supporters, quote, we shook up the world.
00:20The former Detroit health official was backed by some of the biggest names on the left,
00:24including Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
00:28Now, his win is being viewed as a major test of whether the progressive wing of the Democratic
00:32Party can compete and win in a critical swing state. El-Sayed will now face Republican Mike
00:38Rogers in November in a race that Democrats consider essential to their hopes of winning back control of
00:43the U.S. Senate. With more than $80 million spent, the contest became the most expensive Democratic
00:48Senate primary in American history. President Trump's latest stop on his pre-midterm rally tour
00:54was in Las Vegas on Wednesday. And while in Sin City, he ticked off his accomplishments on
00:59immigration, he pressed for the Save America Act, and slammed the fake news media. The greatest hits.
01:05But the event was built as a focus on the economy, and that is the president's favorite topic.
01:10He touted the all-time highs on the stock market and said this.
01:14Last month, inflation dropped at the fastest rate. It's dropped in many years, and more Americans are
01:20working today. So the biggest thing for this whole thing, more Americans are working in the United
01:27States right now than at any point in the history of our country. Think of it. I saw polls today
01:35on
01:35television. I say Donald Trump polls on the economy aren't good. The economy is the greatest economy we've
01:40ever had by far. The economy aren't good. They're fake polls. And speaking of polls, a new report says
01:48the generation that gave us flannel shirts, mixtapes, and slackerdom is now the most pessimistic
01:54about the economy. According to the conference board, Americans in their mid-40s to early 60s
01:59have the lowest consumer confidence of any generation. Economists say there are a few reasons why.
02:05Many Gen Xers are stuck in the so-called sandwich generation, simultaneously helping their aging
02:10parents while still supporting their own children. At the same time, they're starting to think
02:14seriously about retirement. And a lot of them, they don't feel ready. The good news, well, Gen X is
02:20still expected to lead global consumer spending for the next decade. So they may not be very optimistic,
02:25but they're still driving a big chunk of the economy. Newly declassified documents are shedding
02:31light on just how far the FBI was willing to go during the Trump-Russia investigation. The White House
02:36released bombshell records showing the FBI opened a counterintelligence investigation into whether
02:41President Trump was, quote, wittingly or unwittingly acting as a Russian agent after he fired FBI
02:47Director James Comey in 2017. The investigation, codenamed Oxford comma, grew out of the FBI's broader
02:53crossfire hurricane probe into alleged Russian collusion during the 2016 election. The newly released
02:59memos show investigators sought to determine whether Trump had been directed or controlled by the Russian
03:04government and whether firing FBI Director Comey constituted obstruction of justice. But the
03:09documents also include internal FBI messages showing some agents had doubts about the investigation.
03:14One text from, ironically, senior FBI official Peter Stroke said he was concerned there was, quote,
03:20no big there there. Ultimately, the investigation was closed in 2019 without any charges against Trump.
03:26The release comes years after the Mueller investigation found no evidence of criminal conspiracy between the
03:31Trump campaign and Russia. And after special counsel John Durham concluded the FBI's original decision
03:36to open the Russia investigation was, quote, seriously flawed.
