00:13Once upon a time of myths and monsters, the Earth brought forth
00:19new children after the imprisonment of her very first set of children and the overthrow of the
00:24titans, the old order of gods. Fathered by the gloomy pit, Tartarus, the most famous of these later
00:31children were Typhon and Echidna, both of whom were an epitome of monstrosity. Typhon was undoubtedly
00:39the king of all monsters, and Echidna, the queen. So when Typhon wanted a consort, who else was more
00:46fitting if not Echidna, the only other creature in the universe who looked like him. From the union
00:53of these two monsters, a new generation of monsters was born. Horrifying and vicious,
01:00they were gifted with incredible strength and came in all forms and sizes.
01:041. Cerberus. Also known as the Hound of Hades, Cerberus was the gigantic three-headed dog
01:12who faithfully guided the gates of the underworld. Strong and relentless, these beasts fed on raw
01:19flesh and had a terrifyingly loud voice. As its duty, Cerberus prevented the dead from leaving
01:26the realm of Hades and made sure that no soul who entered ever returned to the world of the living.
01:32Like its master, Hades, Cerberus was strict and unyielding.
01:38Only three heroes in all of Greek myths managed to outsmart this beast when they visited the underworld.
01:45Heracles achieved it with his strength. Orpheus, with his music. And Aeneas, with the aid of the
01:51Sybil of Cumi, who bribed Cerberus, with a honey cake.
01:552. The Lernian Hydra.
01:58The Lernian Hydra, was a hideous water serpent, which had many heads, that grew two more, if one was cut
02:05off.
02:06This monster resided in the lake of Lerna, in the region of Argolid, which no one, dared to venture.
02:13It had a poisonous breath. And its blood was so venomous, that the mere scent of this monster,
02:19could kill anyone, who perceived it. Whatever its blood tainted, perished.
02:25The Hydra was eventually killed by Heracles, with the help of his nephew, Theolaus.
02:31Heracles cut off the monster's heads, while his nephew burnt the stumps, so two more heads, would not grow
02:37back.
02:393. Orthrus.
02:41Orthrus was the two-headed dog, who lived with Geryon, the three-bodied, three-headed giant.
02:47Geryon, owned a herd of cattle, in the land of Erethea. Where Orthrus, helped him keep guard of them.
02:54Orthrus and his master, Geryon, were killed by the hero, Heracles, during his twelve labours.
03:014. The Sphinx. The Sphinx was a winged creature, with the body of a lion, and the head of a
03:08woman,
03:09that guarded the road to Thebes. It would stop travellers, and ask them a riddle.
03:14If the traveller failed her riddle, or refused to answer, the Sphinx killed, and ate them.
03:21When the ill-fated prince, Oedipus, answered her riddle correctly, the Sphinx, in madness,
03:27threw herself off the cliff, to her death. No one had ever solved her riddle, till then.
03:345. The Leydon.
03:37The Leydon, was a multi-headed dragon, which guarded the golden apples, in the garden of the Hesperides.
03:43Like Orthrus, the Leydon was not as famous as its other siblings.
03:48The most known encounter with this monster, was during the twelve labours of Heracles,
03:53where Heracles killed it, in order to retrieve the golden apples, of the Hesperides.
03:58In a different story, the Leydon was never killed, because Heracles, never went to the garden.
04:05Instead, he tricked the titan, Atlas, into retrieving the apples for him, thereby completing his task.
04:136. The Chimera.
04:15The Chimera was a ferocious monster, that had the heads of both a lion, and a goat, and a serpent,
04:22as its tail.
04:24This hybrid creature, dwelt in a small part of Lycia, scorching and terrorizing the region,
04:30until the fateful day, when it was killed by the hero, Bellerophon.
04:357. The Nemean Lion.
04:37The Nemean Lion, was a very large and powerful beast, with an impenetrable skin of gold,
04:43and sharp claws that could cut through any armour.
04:468. This fearsome creature, dwelt in the land of Nemea.
04:509. Its skin was tougher than the weapons of mortals, and thus, could not be killed by them.
04:559. The Lion was eventually killed by Heracles, during one of his twelve labours.
05:0110. These, are the children of Echidna, and Typhon.
05:0410. It is sometimes said, that the father and mother of monsters, had other children,
05:10in addition to the already mentioned ones.
05:1310. Some of them include, the caucasian eagle, that fed every day, on the ever-regenerating
05:18liver, of the titan, Prometheus, till it was killed by Heracles, and then the gigantic flesh-eating
05:25Prometheus, and Prometheus, which was killed by the hero, Theseus.
