00:13In the time of the primordial gods, ancient titans, and giants, after the battle between the titans and the gods,
00:21the mother of the earth, Gaia, was angered by the destruction of her children, the titans, and so, sought to
00:28bear another child, more powerful.
00:30Powerful than anything in the universe, powerful enough to overthrow the Olympians.
00:35Gaia mated with Tartarus, the dark abyss, and from their union, came Typhon, the greatest monster of all, an extremely
00:43horrid creature, with immeasurable strength.
00:47In a slightly different version, Typhon was the son of Cronus and Hera.
00:52After a big quarrel with Zeus, an angry Hera visited their father, Cronus, whom Zeus had defeated, and asked for
01:00a way to overthrow Zeus.
01:02Cronus handed Hera, two eggs, covered in his own semen, and told her to bury them.
01:07That from those eggs, the one who would overthrow Zeus, would be born.
01:13Hera buried the eggs in Cilicia.
01:15But before Typhon emerged, Hera had reconciled with Zeus, and told him what she had done.
01:21Whichever the story is, there was never a creature, as monstrous as Typhon.
01:27Typhon was horrifying, cruel, lawless, and immensely ferocious.
01:31On his shoulders, were one hundred snake heads, that breathed fire, and made terrible noise.
01:38He never tired, nor slept.
01:41So huge was he, that his heads, touched the skies.
01:44And from the eyes of his one hundred heads, fire, flashed and burned, as he glared.
01:50The mountains trembled, at the hisses, the bellows, the roars, and every kind of noise, that came from his heads.
01:58He was the bane of gods and mortals alike.
02:01Typhon surpassed all other Gaia's children, both in strength, and in size.
02:07A poison spitting viper, he was.
02:10From the waist above, he had a human form.
02:13From below the waist, he had snake coils, as legs.
02:17And above the shoulders, was an army of venomous snake heads.
02:20With his main head at the center, having tattered hair, an unkempt beard, and fiery eyes.
02:26One of his hands reached out to the west.
02:29And the other hand, to the east.
02:31And in place of his fingers, were a hundred dragon's heads.
02:36Typhon married a fellow monster, Echidna, the mother of monsters.
02:40And had a number of monstrous children.
02:43His children were the Leydon, the two-headed Orthrus, the Sphinx, the Nemean Lion, the three-headed Cerberus, the Lernian
02:50Hydra, and the Chimera.
02:52When the enormous and powerful Typhon was ready, he set out to do what he was born to do.
02:58To overthrow Zeus.
03:00Typhon began to hurl big fiery rocks, at the gods.
03:04He spat poison at them, he blasted fire at them.
03:07In order to escape this mad monster, most of the gods transformed into animals, and fled to Egypt.
03:14Except Athena, and Zeus, who stayed behind.
03:17And Hades and Poseidon, who remained in their territories.
03:22Apollo transformed into a hawk.
03:24Hermes, an ibis.
03:26Ares, a fish.
03:28Artemis, a cat.
03:30Dionysus, a goat.
03:31Heracles, a fawn.
03:34Hephaestus, an ox.
03:35And Leto, a mouse.
03:37When the warrior goddess, Athena, urged her father Zeus, to fight for his children, and all of Olympus.
03:44Zeus set out to meet his supposed pain.
03:47He and Typhon, engaged in an earth-shaking battle, which caused the realm of Hades to tremble.
03:53And the seas of Poseidon, to rage.
03:56Even Tartarus, shook beneath the feet of the two fighting gods.
04:00Who would the victor be?
04:02The king of the gods, or the king of monsters?
04:05The two gods struggled, and strained.
04:08Typhon, pouring fire and venom.
04:10And Zeus, hurling lightning and thunderbolts.
04:14The sky god dealt huge strikes at his opponent, with his thunderbolts.
04:18Severing many of the monster's snake heads.
04:22After a long time of struggling.
04:24Zeus was finally able to restrain Typhon's arms.
04:27And fired thunderbolts at the monster, with great might.
04:31Typhon fell to the earth with a loud crash.
04:34Burnt, and maimed.
04:36Zeus had conquered him.
04:38The king of the gods, had won.
04:40Typhon met the same fate, as his titan brothers.
04:44Zeus cast him into Tartarus, and placed a huge mountain, known as Mount Etna, over him.
04:50To make sure he never escaped.
04:53It is believed, that volcanic eruptions, are caused by Typhon, in his efforts to escape.
05:00This is the myth of Typhon.
