This is Perseverance, photographed from orbit by NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter using its HiRISE camera, just one day before the rover hit a huge milestone: driving a full marathon's distance (26.2 miles) across Mars. You can even see its tracks trailing behind it in the surrounding terrain.
Key facts:
• Captured June 13, 2026, in a region nicknamed "Arbot," west of Jezero Crater
• Perseverance reached the marathon milestone on Sol 1,890 — 5 years, 4 months into its mission
• Previous record-holder Opportunity took 11 years, 2 months to do the same
