This isn't a simulation. This is one real image from the world's largest digital camera. 🌌📸
The NSF–DOE Vera C. Rubin Observatory has begun a 10-year survey of the entire southern sky, using a 3,200-megapixel camera — the largest ever built — to capture a new, ultra-detailed image roughly every 40 seconds. This "ocean of stars" is just a tiny slice of what it's already found.
Key facts:
• Camera: 3,200 megapixels, the largest digital camera ever built
• Mission: a 10-year, all-sky "cosmic movie" (Legacy Survey of Space and Time)
• Already spotted thousands of previously unseen objects in its first weeks
