This lake is made of lava — and it's 127 miles long. 🌋
Using real data from NASA's Juno spacecraft, scientists built this animation of Loki Patera, a massive lava lake on Jupiter's volcanic moon, Io. Parts of its surface are so smooth they reflect light almost like glass.
Key facts:
• 127 miles (200 km) long — one of the largest lava lakes known
• Built from real Juno/JunoCam data, 2023–2024 flybys
• Located on Io, the most volcanic body in the solar system
