00:00A father ties his son's hands behind his back.
00:04He lays the boy on a stone altar.
00:08He raises a knife, and he is about to bring it down.
00:13This is not a nightmare.
00:15This is not a villain.
00:17This is Abraham, the man God called his closest friend,
00:23and God himself gave the order.
00:26In the next few minutes, you are going to discover why this terrifying moment on Mount Moriah
00:33is one of the most important events in all of Scripture,
00:37and what it reveals about the nature of faith that most people never fully understand.
00:43To feel the full weight of this story, you need to understand who Abraham was
00:49and what Isaac meant to him.
00:52Abraham had waited 25 years for this child.
00:56God had promised him a son when he was 75 years old.
01:01Year after year passed.
01:03His wife Sarah laughed at the idea because it was biologically impossible.
01:09And then, at 100 years old, Abraham held his son Isaac for the first time.
01:16This was not just a child.
01:19Isaac was the living proof that God keeps impossible promises.
01:24He was the entire future, the lineage through which God had sworn to bless every nation on earth.
01:32Genesis 22 opens with three of the most chilling words in the Bible.
01:37God tested Abraham.
01:39And the test was this.
01:42Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah.
01:53Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering.
01:57Notice that God did not say, a son.
02:02He said, your only son.
02:05He named him.
02:07He reminded Abraham of his love for him.
02:11God knew exactly what he was asking.
02:16And Abraham's response?
02:19The very next morning, he rose early, saddled his donkey, and set out.
02:25No argument.
02:27No negotiation.
02:29Just obedience.
02:32The three-day journey to Moriah would have been the longest walk of Abraham's life.
02:39Imagine traveling with your son, knowing what is waiting at the destination, and not being able to say a word.
02:48When they reached the foot of the mountain, Abraham told his servants,
02:52Stay here with the donkey, while I and the boy go and worship, and then we will come back to
03:00you.
03:01We, not I.
03:04He said, we will come back.
03:07As they climbed, Isaac noticed something.
03:12Father, he said, the fire and the wood are here, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?
03:20Abraham answered, God himself will provide the lamb, my son.
03:27Then they reached the place God had told him about.
03:31Abraham built the altar.
03:33He arranged the wood.
03:35He bound his son, Isaac.
03:37He laid him on the altar.
03:40He reached out his hand and took the knife.
03:44At that precise moment, the angel of the Lord called out from heaven.
03:50Abraham, Abraham, Abraham, do not lay a hand on the boy.
03:55Now I know that you fear God, because you not withheld from me your son, your only son.
04:04Abraham looked up, and there, caught in a thicket by its horns, was a ram, a substitute.
04:12God had provided.
04:14Abraham called that place, the Lord will provide.
04:19Jehovah-Jireh, a name that still echoes through Scripture 4,000 years later.
04:26And God renewed his covenant.
04:29Because Abraham did not withhold his only son, through his offspring, every nation on earth would be blessed.
04:37Look at the parallels.
04:39Look at the parallels.
04:40A father.
04:41An only son whom he loves.
04:44A journey to a mountain.
04:46Wood laid on the son's back to carry, just as a cross would be carried.
04:51A willing sacrifice.
04:54A substitute provided at the last moment.
04:56And Mount Moriah, the very same mountain range where 2,000 years later, God the Father would not stop his
05:06hand.
05:06Where his own son would not be spared.
05:10Abraham's test was not random cruelty.
05:14It was a rehearsal.
05:15A living prophecy.
05:18God was showing the world, centuries in advance, what love at its absolute limit looks like.
05:25A father willing to give everything.
05:28A son willing to go all the way.
05:31The lesson of Mount Moriah is not that God wants to take things from you.
05:36It is that true faith holds everything loosely.
05:39Knowing that the God who gives can be trusted, even when he asks for it back.
05:46Abraham passed the test not because he stopped loving Isaac, but because he loved God more.
05:52And because he trusted that a God of promises does not cancel his own word.
05:57But the ram in the thicket was always coming.
06:01Abraham just had to be willing to climb the mountain first.
06:06If God gave you the same test as Abraham, to surrender the thing you love most, what would that thing
06:15be for you?
