00:00The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service confirms that the child seen in this video at the roadside under the Oropuch
00:07flyover is now safely in the custody of a female relative.
00:12In the video, which began circulating on Friday night, the motorist narrating says he observed a man in the middle
00:19of the road, supposedly attempting to direct traffic, while the child stood nearby.
00:25The man further claims that he attempted to bring the matter to the attention of the police, but that his
00:32concerns allegedly fell on deaf ears.
00:35I went by the police station, but the police said, take me on, somebody please, send this to somebody to,
00:42I don't know what's going on with the situation between the child and his father, but he liked to play
00:47in the road.
00:47However, the TTPS confirms today that police officers attached to the emergency response patrol unit encountered the 29-year-old
00:57man and his four-year-old son at the Oropuch overpass on Saturday.
01:03Recognizing that the situation posed a potential risk to both the child and the public, the officers intervened and transported
01:11both individuals to the police station.
01:14Further information was received that the man was on his way to take the child to his mother at the
01:20time that the video was taken.
01:22Police also received information from the man's mother, who indicated that her son did not appear to be in a
01:29fit mental state at the time.
01:32The TTPS says after the necessary inquiries, the child was safely released into the care of his mother.
