00:00The Clang City Council has defended its officers following the death of a pet dog named Rocky
00:05during a stray dog operation in Port Clang.
00:09Ariane Metro reported that a woman had acted aggressively while trying to cut the noose,
00:13used to restraint the dog and threatened to harm herself if Rocky was not released.
00:19According to the council, the resulting commotion made it difficult for officers
00:23to loosen the rope or release their equipment safely.
00:27The council said officers eventually let go of the equipment before police arrived
00:32to prevent the situation from escalating, but the dog was confirmed dead during the incident.
00:38The operation was carried out in Taman Teluk Gedung Indah on Wednesday night following complaints from residents.
00:45The council said 12 stray dogs were caught and that the equipment used met government standards,
00:51with animal welfare prioritised throughout the operation.
00:54It has lodged a police report over the alleged obstruction of officers and a threat involving a sharp weapon.
01:02Animal Welfare Group Persatuan Haiwan Terbiya Malaysia earlier called for an investigation,
01:08alleging that Rocky was beaten, dragged and strangled despite pleas from its owner.
01:14The group said licensing issues were irrelevant, arguing that the absence of a licence did not justify causing harm or
01:21death to an animal.
