Dear Friends,
It's been a few months since I was able to bring you a video for which I apologise.!
I had hoped to make a video or two whilst on my trip back to the UK but unfortunately time and circumstances didn't allow... I also ended up having to extend my trip by 6 weeks meaning I was too late getting back to catch the Black Storks fledging.. next year..!
With the heatwave continuing here in Greece, getting out to shoot has bee difficult as I have been prioritizing the dogs which I can only walk in the relative cool of the early mornings.. also the only time it's worth going out to shoot both because of the heat distortion one gets shooting in the heat of the day but also because it is just so uncomfortable shooting in 40 degrees.
Anyway.. this is just a quick update video with a little bit of footage of some waterbirds feeding up on the lake before they set off on their long migrations south.
Hope you enjoy.. hopefully as the temps begin to drop over the coming weeks I'll be able to bring you more videos of wildlife as well as some camera trapping and tutorials.
Thank you all for your support.

00:30So hello my friends, I hope you're all doing well.
00:34It's been a few months since I was able to bring you a video.
00:37I had hoped to bring you one from the UK, or two even, and as things turned out my schedule
00:44just didn't allow for it.
00:48So, and in fact I had to delay my trip back to Greece by about six weeks, which unfortunately
00:55meant I was too late to catch the last bit of action on the black stalks nest.
01:03I had hoped to catch them fledging at least, but when I visited the nest a few days after
01:09I got back here the nest was empty.
01:12So I'm hoping that they managed to raise some chicks and were successful in that.
01:22But I'll have to finish that story off next year.
01:27That being said, the chicks and their parents are probably down on the lake at various locations,
01:34which they like to frequent.
01:36This being one of them, and in fact I do have one black stalk in the far distance there.
01:43So maybe I'll get a little bit of footage which can help to help the story next year.
01:50A little bit of extra footage of them down on the lake and feeding.
01:56What was I going to say?
02:01This year has been particularly hot.
02:03We've had forest fires close by here as well, and in fact the hydroplanes have been coming
02:12down onto the lake to collect water to drop on the fires.
02:17And we had a spring as well of not much rain, which means water levels on the lake are really,
02:23really low and dropping fast.
02:27First, I scouted this location, which is one of the streams that feeds the lake, two days
02:34ago when I spotted one of the black stalks here and I thought I would come back and try
02:38and get some shots.
02:41And since then, just two, three days ago, the water level has dropped probably two, three
02:48feet.
02:51So it's quite difficult shooting conditions and whatever there is is quite far out now.
02:59That and the heat have just not allowed me to come out shooting.
03:07During the day it's just not worth it.
03:09The light is so harsh and there's so much heat distortion and it's so uncomfortable being
03:16out in the heat.
03:18And in the early mornings like this I've been prioritizing the pups because it's the only
03:24time of day I can take them out for a walk.
03:27The rest of the time it's just too unbearable, even the evenings are too hot.
03:36So I haven't been able to do much.
03:39Today, like I said, all I'm hoping to do is get a little bit of b-roll footage.
03:46I'll try and put a sequence together, which will not be so much story driven as it will
03:53be, just pretty pictures hopefully, of whatever comes along here.
03:59So I shall catch up with you in a bit, hopefully having got some shots, and I shall show you
04:08that sequence at the end.
04:09So I shall see you in a sec.
04:14Okay, so I think I'm going to call it there.
04:18I think I got a few shots, nothing too dramatic.
04:23One of the difficulties of shooting in the middle of the summer in Greece, at least, is that we
04:28don't get very atmospheric conditions.
04:35As soon as the sun rises it becomes really harsh really fast.
04:40So there's no lovely mist or anything like that to shoot through.
04:49So, not too much drama in the images.
04:54Like I said, I think I got a few shots.
04:58It was a nice shot of a great crested greep fishing along the stream here in front of me.
05:05Some terns diving on a school of fish in front of the egrets.
05:11And the black stalk, which unfortunately flew off.
05:18I think he was scared off by somebody that came down the embankment there, probably taking
05:24pictures.
05:26And they lifted the entire flock of birds.
05:29So there's only two, three birds in front of me now.
05:33So, not really worth me hanging around any longer.
05:37And like I said, the light is getting pretty harsh already on the birds in front of me.
05:44So thank you so much for watching and following along.
05:48I hope you enjoy the little sequence I put together for you.
05:51And I shall catch up with you again soon.
05:54Bye for now.
05:57Bye for now.
06:20Bye for now.
06:24Bye for now.
06:25Bye.
06:35Bye.
06:39Bye.
